Seriki has to start

Brooks in particular needs an overlapping full back. Brooks had a poor first half, but may be disappointed he didn't get the chance to work with Seriki. O'Hare was shifted to the right, but had an ineffective game.
Brooks was poor. I do wonder if he is still not 100% over his illness though.

Could be tough going to not be well enough on Saturday, to then having to play Tuesday (after a long trip on Monday).

I doubt we'd have risked him if we had more players to choose from.

Speak to Chelsea fans, he’s alot better as centre back than what he is as right back.
I know a tonne of Chelsea fans and most have no idea on him really. They’re keen to hear how he does here. He was heralded as the second coming of John Terry in the age groups for some reason but he actually made his debut at right back. But he has played very little men’s football full stop.

You’re right though that he’s probably more at home at centre back owing to where he spent much of his youth career. But he’s been starting at right back for us and we need to judge him based on his performances rather than his learning curve. Particularly as a loanee.

I thought it was interesting that when Chelsea had an injury crisis it didn’t even seem to be a consideration that they might recall Gilchrist. For me he’s not got any of the required physical attributes to make it as a top class centre back - height, speed, agility, strength - nor the technical attributes to cover those deficiencies. It looks the same as right back too. I may be wrong though.

He does look like a centre half playing at full back. Fair play to him, he gives it his best shot and will probably improve over time. But he's definitely a natural centre half.

If he was 3 inches taller I don't think there would be any debate about his best position

Our youngsters like Peck and Seriki seem to have a surplus of self confidence. It’s possible that Brooks tries to show this level confidence rubbing off on him but he does lack maturity, while the other two have an abundance of it. Brooks has been ill but still wants to play, even though he only shows his skills every other match.
Trying too hard, or is Wilder right about him? They all develop differently at that age.

He loves opening play up doesn't he? A beast on the attack.
Has some real premier league qualities. We are attacking most teams and he is the perfect player for that role.

Unfortunately the right winger space in our team seems to be poor at the moment. Brooks after his great performance has been terrible. Hopefully Rak Sayki back soon and that right side turns from average to one of the most attacking in championship.

seriki would be brilliant in our old set up as a wingback with anel covering him when he bombs forward with jjk looking likely to come in gilchrist is either going to his natural position at cb or being recalled by chelsea

Against the better teams, his inadequacies defensively could be exposed, but at home, for me, he is a must to start against most opposition. With a weak midfield on Friday, let's get on the front foot and use Sereki to attack Hull, to put them on the back front.

I think he's leaving soon for a big fee. He's a monster going forward
, but not yet great at defending nor grasping the concept of being somewhere near the person he should be marking.

Just love him going on the attack though.

Easy him back gently we do not want to rush him back and him end up picking up a serious injury.

He helped change the game along with Brewster last night and he is going to be key he tore Swanseas defence a new arsehole.
yes agree seriki could be key to us getting top 2 think wilder will use him sensibly

I think Wilder likes the option of starting with Gilchrist, who keeps us solid and then bringing on Seriki to terrorise left sided defenders later in the match, who by then should have hopefully also been given a bit of a torrid time by JRS or Brooks.

I must admit that having him as one of many game changers from the bench, along with one of the aforementioned, Campbell and another attacking player, is very appealing.

He really is a special player though, so I understand the view that he should be on the pitch as much as possible.

It’s a bit harsh to say they could be when we have no proof of that.

We do have proof of Gilchrist’s inadequacies being exposed against better teams. So what should we do?

Why do people keep saying he's got deficiencies or inadequacies defensively?

I can only assume it's some form of stereotyping due to the colour of his skin, because there's absolutely no evidence of it? 🤣
(I'm not saying anyones being racist before anyone starts, but the whole misconception is that black players can't defend)

I saw him play against York a couple of years ago in the National North, and he was a machine going forward but too quick for his team-mates, so there was never a pass on. Granted, it was 2 years ago, but he was poor defensively, kept losing his man and his positional sense was questionable. Given the level, it was a worry that this was noticeable.

From what I've seen, his offensive work is still superb, changed the pigs and Swansea games, but he still looks less comfortable defensively, compared to say Gilchrist. In most games, this won't be an issue this season, and hopefully he will improve in all areas. After all, his manager was rather a decent full back!

Gilchrist is too small for centre back, too cautious for right back...I've always thought he'd probably do a better job as a defensive CM.

Think hed be just as good, if not better, than Choudhury.

Maybe Kenny is coming in to fill RB, allowing Gilchrist to play more centrally...and the Charles rumours are bollocks?

Not ITK whatsoever, just speculating

I think he'd make a decent striker, he'd put the shits up me if I was the last man..

As much as I would like to see him start, it's worth remembering that he's just come back from his second lengthy injury this season and might not be up to 90 minutes yet, especially with the intensity he plays with.
Can always take him off after he's got us winning

Gilchrist also gives way too much room to his opposition winger.
But offers none of what Seriki does in attack.. and is a Chelsea player.

If JJK comes in and is as solid as I'm expecting, it does ask the question....
The question being ?
What is CW thinking about RB/CB ?
RB
JJK , Seriki , Shacks , Alfie
CB
Anel , Robbo , Baptiste , Alfie

To me there is a muddle over Alfie.

Whatever , we defo need a Souttar clone
