Next Seasons Shirt - Mockup of a 125 years anniversary shirt

And so begins the tedium of a seven month debate on our kits for next season.
Despite what designs are announced, you only have to cast your mind back to last summer when this site went into meltdown because the club had committed the cardinal sin of going for yellow as our away kit.
Don't give a fuck as long as long as they don't mess with the red & white stripes and secondly, we have a team fit to wear them.
 
Early in the season McCabe reassured there would never be any re-branding of the club following the arrival of Prince Abdullah. He also said we would always play in our famous red and white stripes with the exception of next season when we would be reverting back to our very first kit to celebrate the anniversary.

I thought it might look something along these lines (If the rumours we have made a deal with Adidas are true though I doubt it). It might even be just a plain white shirt, either way both of our early kits have navy blue shorts and socks so that should be interesting!

Yes I was about to post about the navy blue shorts. But we won then didn't we like er a play off v Accrington? Might be an omen. :)
 
I quite like that. A retro kit to celebrate our 125th anniversary is a decent enough way to mark it, in the same way that Arsenal and Southampton have done in recent years. It's just a shame that the adidas logo will be either Macron, Happy Shopper or some other low-end manufacturer.
 
I really like the look of that and would definitely buy it. I haven't bought a replica shirt since 2009 and hadn't intended to again either, but would certainly go for that design.
 
All about personal taste, but for me .....yuk!

Prefer more red than white, or at least equal amounts

Don't like collars on football shirts. Traditional round neck or V neck for me
 
Kits ok for a one off but have always disliked that "shield" style version of the badge.
Either keep the badge as it is now (best in football) or go retro and have the old Sheffield coat of arms like they did in the 70s
 



This ties in with what was mentioned at the start of the season that we'd have a replica of the original kit.

I saw somebody close to the club yesterday who said macron was dropped after this season and we "wouldn't be disappointed" with the new supplier. This could well be the kit
 
As I understand it, there are two avenues open to the club... Either have commemorative shirt for the whole season or get dispensation to wear a one-off shirt in a league game and then any friendlies.

Seeing as the latter would probably make more money, which do you think they'd go for?

And I do hopen the council wouldn't be that mardy as to not allow us to use the Sheffield coat of arms. I know they favour Them (blue and white Christmas lights in town anyone?) but it would be a small concession.

It is only intended as an anniversary shirt, it's not what I would expect to see as a traditional home shirt.

I was curious what the badge might look like as well, I didn't think we would be using the Sheffield coat of arms as that didn't appear on the shirt til the 70's. I consider our badge to be a perfect piece of design and I would never change it but I wanted to do a one off anniversary badge. Here are a couple of options close up:

If it's going to be a one off game then surely it's got to be for the Wolves game on 22nd March considering that's our "birthday"?

I do like the idea of going back to our first season for our home shirt but they'll only go and ruin it by having an awful sponsors logo on the front and then make it even worse by having another sponsors logo on the back.

The Sheffield coat of arms appeared on the shirt in the 1960's. According to this site

Yes you're quite right! It's still 70 odd years after the club formed though so it seems unlikely it would be used on an anniversary kit, not that I'm opposed to it!
 
I agree, I think it a very nice design. For all adidas are the most reliable brand of sportswear manufacturers, they DO make a pig's ear of striped football shirts.

Design Blade has drawn a traditionally constructed (simple) shirt as they ought to be. But most manufacturers use what I believe are called 'Raglan' Sleeves where the seam runs from the armpit to the collar on the diagonal. This fouls up striped shirts and shirts with contrasting body and arms.

Adidas like all the others put too many different panels into the construction like an extra strip down the side seams. The Macron strip of last season made that mistake, because with extra panels of white along the arm holes AND white 'epaulettes', it made the shirt look whiter than it's admirable 1970s prototype.

Also recently manufacturers seem to have forgotten about long sleeved shirts. This may be because so many footballers wear a long sleeved vest underneath and they think they may as well save on cloth? While the combination of short striped sleeve football shirt worn over a long sleeve vest just looks ghastly.

If you don't believe me, look at this year's Stoke City kit.

btw if you wanted an adidas strip with some credibility, it would have the 3-leaf logo I would have thought. Ah the match has kicked off.....

I am interested its just i loathe white shirts on football teams..and its a cheap and nasty trick used by every club now for the 125th anniversary. Not for me thanks united.
 
Personally love it to bits as a one off for the anniversary (whether for the season or a commemorative game) and again, as others have said, I would buy it without question providing it isn't ruined by sponsors shitty logos. Ought to be a price differential anyway. Pay more and don't get sponsors logos and pay less and suffer them.
 



Personally I quite like it but only for one season as an anniversary thing. Maintains our traditional colours but also a tribute to the past. It's a bit like Southampton's home shirt last season but the colours in reverse.
