Enjoyed that. It’s weird how you can feel a proper affinity with a bunch of blokes who were born 100+ years before you, simply because they wore the red and white. Knowing that my family were Unitedites as far back as anyone can remember possibly helps. History is a really important part of why football means a lot to people.

Interesting read - regarding the 1899 FA Cup semi-final v Liverpool:

... a series of pitch invasions delayed the game so much it was abandoned owing to oncoming darkness with Liverpool leading 1-0. And so, the saga moved on to Derby and United finally won 1-0, with Priest again the FA Cup hero.

Didn't know about that - controversial! :oops:😆

Thank God we didnt have Lineker et al then. Would have got his mates at the FA to intervene and award the tie to Liverpool.

A good read. They were our team of Invincibles and should be revered by all Blades. We were at the top table of football during that period attracting large crowds for the time.

3 FA Cup final appearances, 2 wins, 1 league title and 2 runners up places plus winners of the Great Britain cup over Celtic. Heady days. A team of winners who brought glory to the Club.

Like Golden Gordons son in Ripping Yarns (aka Barnstoneworth United) young Blades should be taught to recite;

Foulke Thickett, Cain, Howell, Morren, Johnson, Needham, Bennett, Gaudie, Almond, Priest, McKay.
