Yup. We paid around £10-12M for him when he returned, got in the region of £24m back. Plus add on's which we don't know how many got triggered, but most did.
There was a lot of nonsense at the time about us paying £18m+ but that didn't factor in what we were owed and was the inflated figure Bournemouth were putting out.
As is typical the higher figure was touted by national media to hype it up, but the more local guys highlighted several times that it wasn't accurate.
The figures in the accounts confirmed that it was £10-12m.

Sunderland ITKers saying on their forum not going to them. So I guess he's either staying at Southampton or coming here.

Surely Southampton would want his wages off the books rather than having him sitting there doing nothing. 🤷‍♂️
The amount of talk that happens is ridiculous. You just have to look back at the Harrison Burrows to Leeds saga

The additions to intangible assets that season were just over £46m. Taking into account the fees estimated fees for Brewster, Bogle, Lowe, Burke, Lopata and Coullibally at around say £33/34 m Bobs figure is there or there about.

If BBD fitness/injury concerns is one of the reasons stopping us wanting an obligation to buy, then surely we can caveat that the obligation is only triggered if he is fit and available for selection for 75% of games during the loan period till end of season.
Is he really injury prone ? From the start of his career with Forest to leaving Blackburn he averaged 36 games a season. Strikers get whacked about a bit and might miss the odd game but it doesn't look like he's regularly out for long spells. He's certainly not in the Brewster category of injury prone.

I don’t think it’s about missing games, however maybe it’s that he can’t train like everyone else. If that is true and I have no idea that might explain the hesitancy.

Southampton must have given him a full medical in the summer

As would we have done and Villareal before us.

My main concern with him would not be his injuries but that he has not really settled anywhere or found a real rhythm that you get from playing regularly since leaving Blackburn.

Perhaps that's why he appears adamant on coming to us because he seemed to like it here and settled in well despite being in a dross side getting hammered every week.

Sheff Utd favourites to sign Brereton Diaz
Latest from Sky Sports News' Rob Dorsett:

Sheffield United are favourites to sign Southampton striker Ben Brereton Diaz on loan this month.

Saints are keen to move on some players who haven’t been integral parts of the first team so far this season - Brereton Diaz is one of those, having made just four Premier League substitute appearances since September.

Sunderland and Blackburn have both made approaches for him, but Sky Sports News has learned that Brereton Diaz’s personal circumstances mean he will only consider a move to Sheffield United in this window. Otherwise, he is happy to stay at St Mary’s and fight for his place.

His partner is due to give birth to their baby soon, so the Chile international will only consider a move that is suitable for his family. He knows Sheffield well, having spent a five-month loan spell at Bramall Lane this time last year, to try to help keep them in the top division.

Southampton are thought to want a contractual guarantee from any Championship club which takes him on loan this time that they will sign him on a substantive deal, if that club is promoted to the Premier League.

I imagine the ball is firmly in our court to get this done then. Southampton will have a price in mind, if we can’t afford it move on. Stop playing chicken.

I'm really quite surprised that we're not pulling the trigger on the obligation if promoted clause (if that is indeed the problem). It seems an easy one to agree to in many ways; even with injury concerns.
I am surprised Southampton wanted an obligation to buy inserted. BBD would be a quality Championship player for them.

If it's anything like match day when i go diaz might actually be here at the gangway but cant get where he needs to get because hes had his season ticket checked 56 times by useless stewards after nipping for a piss

If the reports are true re BBD and him saying its either us, or he stays at Southampton.

I know this might go against the gerrimin asap and whatstheholdup posters, but this may have worked in Uniteds favour and it might be US that are playing hardball?

We will offer this (because thats what we think hes worth) and if you dont like it, he stays on your wage bill for his contract.

I have slagged United off (because of what i thought was best) in the past, but in recent deals both buying amd selling, we seem to have done quite well IMO.

At worst he would be an excellent 3rd or 4th choice striker in the Prem.

I’d also be surprised if such an obligation was holding us back. We know what he’s capable of in the Prem, let alone the Champ should we not go up.

As always, there’s probably stuff involved that we’re not aware of. Possible that the obligatory price to buy is being haggled.

Doesn’t necessarily have to be a negative reason either. The point is us mere peasants won’t know and don’t need to.

Could be we were happy with an option to buy but are less keen on the obligation because the new owners might think we can do better. Not worked at 2/3 of his last clubs has it.

We might have been happy at 7 million option and trying to haggle the obligation to 5 million to cover the fact we’ll be forced to buy him.

Who knows.

Recruitment team has levelled up

I think we would have to be looking at a ludicrous, Forest style post promotion splurge to not want him in and around a Premier League squad next season. Hard to see why it's a sticking point. If he flops we don't go up anyway so the obligation wouldn't apply.

I don't purport to know everything or be any way ITK, but I'd be very surprised if it's Wilder that's pissing about
Agree it's Wilder who wants him as we all do but agreements are never straight forward ,I guess Southampton want a clause in committing clubs to buying him come the end of the season and It all depends on what figure they have in mind . I am sure Wilder would love to see him in the door but not always that easy .

Well he does not have to be special when you look at our strikers ,only Campbell looks anything like capable of worrying defenders and goalies .
