It really is just down to him really, if and it’s an if, Saints don’t want him to stay

It’s now just up to them to decide

Southampton can't force him to move to any club, whether permanently or on loan whilst he is under contract. So if he has given them a clear indication of where he wants to go, they are simply cutting off their noses to spite their face. He clearly isn't in their plans this season, so they may as well get some of his wages off their books for a few months.

Not sure why we wouldn't meet the buy clause on promotion, he's 25 and did alright with us in a turgid team last year.
Depends on the valuation and wages really. Southampton paid 7m and put him on 35k, but can’t sniff the bench of a team already down. New man has come in and still the same.

Now if you’re sheffield united, are you giving them their money back or putting him on 35k if we get promoted and be the same boat?

I certainly wouldn’t put him on 35k on say a 4 year deal and get relegated.

I would take him on loan with an option but that would involve Southampton paying part of his wages for that deal on day half the cash

This is Sheffield United we are talking about nothing better happens. More likely end up with a £250k signing from Dundee United day before transfer deadline day.

I'm still a glass half empty Blade even after 45 years supporting the Blades, you would think it would be empty by now. 😆
Maybe it’s a big glass…

Could it be our medical team are concerned about his previous injury, and are advising Bettis and owners to that effect, hence the reluctance on the loan to buy option?????

Not to mention robinson who went to Fulham.

People say don't give wilder money etc because he got 1 wrong on brewster. But look at the squad we could have potentially had if the owner backed him properly to get his first choice players. Ultimately he wouldn't.
Surely a huge part of being a manager is understanding your budget and identifying players who fit?

"He's good that Watkins. Get him"
"£30m, £80k a week, Villa are a bigger club and his ex boss is there"
"Don't care, I like him"
"But you can't have him. It's ridiculous that you even think this is possible"

I think that there was a nervousness regarding Robinson and a heart problem/abnormality. I think that he'd failed 2 medicals previously due to it.

Where is his wife settled, Sheffield? If so, he’s travelling to Southampton. Just as long a journey as Sunderland for example. Doesn’t make any sense that.
Maybe travelling to Southampton is a necessity of his current employment. Signing for us would ensure he's still employed but eliminate the need to travel and help him enjoy a more 'normal' family life?

But if he went to team nearer his wife this would still apply

It amuses me that some of our fans think Wilder is Mystic Meg because he tries to sign players that just about every other club at our level would love to sign but know they can't afford.

I seem to recall Anel going off the boil, when he became a father.

I do think he's learned from that. Him trying to make every decision himself was too much in general, but especially with transfers

Aye that £1.8m what Brentford paid Exeter when we was first interested is really ridiculous. Some people clearly forget or it doesn't fit their agenda I guess.

Seriously? You're talking about Wilder being good with money, mentioning Anfernee Robinson but then claiming you're actually talking about Wilder not getting Watkins, from a division below Brentford in the summer of 2017 rather than the time wasted in 2020?

And I'm the one with the agenda?

Forgive a touch off Blades here. In a county cricket game at Trent Bridge the game was halted temporarily as a messenger came out from the pavilion to hand Harold Larwood a message telling him his child had been born, and to give him a celebratory glass of whisky. He then bowled as fast a ball as he ever had and smashed the batsman's stumps all over the place. As the batsman walked off he was heard to say ' thank fuck it wasn't twins'

I don’t understand why we’re going for Mcburnie at all. I can only think it’s experience or it’s his partnership with BBD. He was regularly injured and rarely could play 3 games in a week.

Cannon so far has proved he can play week in week out. He’d be the preferred choice dependent on budget
You’re ignoring his Championship record then.
He’d be one of the top forwards in this league as shown from his record at this level, even including his one difficult season with the Slav/Hecky transition.

You brought up watkins beinf unrealistic and I'm just reminding you that we was interested in him before he went to villa, but our owners wouldn't sanction it, So your point is pretty pointless.

And 2 i never said he was good with money and I never said he was bad with money. I said some claim he's terrible when having money to spend because he had 1 bad gamble. Which was a reply to 1 poster mentioning a few of the missed out targets.

Wilder has never been backed properly is what I said and I think you just didn't read it properly, or you just made up something I didn't say to run with your agenda.
