Wait and see on the second one.
I've just sacked my source on the third.

Worryingly in his interview after the game he said something along the lines of …. If we don’t get any over the line in time …. He then went on to say we hope to get 2 or 3 in by the end.

Same old United leaving it too late and short on numbers (if true)

We have no idea what’s happening with the negotiations so why would you assume it’s “same old United”?

It’s completely possible that the selling clubs are being unreasonable and difficult to deal with.

Stop bedwetting.

Lots of moving parts as others have said, plus, we have new owners so an expectation from other clubs and agents that we will be splashing the cash, especially with a good chance of promotion....ergo they increase their prices or insert costly clauses.

I want us to bring in reinforcements as much as any other fan but not at any cost or being ripped off.

Its just other clubs and players agents trying it on, which is understandable. If other clubs were looking at United's better players in the January window I would be wanting United to either discourage it or if the players head was turned, to hold off until nearer the end of the window to try and smoke out potentially better deals. We would do the same

What we have going in our favour though is that Wilder has made it clear that his preferred targets all seemingly want to come to SUFC and we have a board who want to back us in the transfer market.

Once we get a couple or so over the line, and players back from injury, the pressure is off a little re timelines and transfer deadline date, and we can then wait for other clubs and agents to start getting twitchy and coming back to us with lowered demands. I understand why they say January is a difficult window and why managers would prefer there to be no windows and transfers allowed for 10 months of the year like the good old days as it mostly takes away the brinksmanship of a hard deadline date with half a season still to go at.

Things will get easier for us once we get a couple of top targets over the line. Trust Wilder and the board to get it done as quickly as they can.

Unfortunately, he's wrong on all three counts.

BBD wants to come here

We want him to come here

Southampton want to see what else is offered for him, ideally a permanent sale.

Quickest way to resolve this is for BBD to say to Southampton he won't agree personal contract with any club except us... so it's a waste of time them waiting around.

He’s not going to do that. Limits his options. Like others have said there are many moving parts to these deals.

I didn’t say I knew I said it’s worrying … and always happens … if negotiations are difficult wilder would be best off keeping his mouth shut and not sitting through a previous interview smiling like a Cheshire Cat saying how close we are (even if we were)

It’s worrying that we could potentially go another … 3 weeks without the necessary reinforcements especially after being led to believe targets were all but signed …

Under promise and over deliver

With many injured players back the pressure is not so great now anyhow.

Centre back is first priority though, that one is desperate now after seeing RND hobbling off last night.

I think we need a couple of defenders.
A CB and another cover player. So either, we bring in a starting RB and let Gilchrist cover the back line (sure he'd still get plenty of game time), or we bring in two orthodox CBs, 1 starter, 1 cover and go with what we have at RB.

Led to believe by who?

Wilder doesn't commit to anything until a player is virtually signing their paperwork, so he hasn't said anything other than that they're aiming to have bodies in by next weekend. Any suggestion that players were "all but signed" has come from press/media outlets. But if you look at their recent track record re: the takeover, it's clear that they are not infallible when it comes to being accurate.

The talk of verbal agreements and close to signing have all come from the media and rumours.

Wilder has just said he hopes to have 2 or 3 to be in before Norwich. As far as I can see, he’s made no promises

Like it or not - most Prem Teams will leave things until almost 3rd Feb before doing deals. It’s a big game of poker for clubs to get the best deals. So whilst I do think we will get players in this month - my gut is that we may not have any in by Norwich.

January is the worst time to be doing business.

Can't see any negatives in what he's said. Reading between the lines, we are looking at Monday or Tuesday for any player signings. That's fine as long as they have a couple of days training - BBD won't need any induction as I'll expect him slip nicely in to the starting 11.

I think of the awkward one that CW is alluding too could be someone that we know nothing about. I think Hamza and BBD are nailed on.

My guess is agents.

Dint one of our failed transfers come down to agent demanding £10m at last minute a few seasons back? Them b@stards need regulating by FA

The Barcelona lad who then ended up not being re-registered with a squad number for remainder of season by Barca and ended up having to go to some obscure country that transfer window was still open in just so he could play.
