What was your coldest United match that you have been to

It was between Christmas and New Year, so the Biffin Bridge, the Barse, the Tint. Anyway, it was fun hitching back from that one. Wapping Blade dropped me off at the A34/M4 junction (I think), and with hardly any traffic (as is usually the case at that time of year, especially at midnight), I somehow got back to my home in Hackney for 4 in the morning. Two lifts and a bus.
Is that the one where it was snowing the further north we got?

Kevin McCabe offered me his official car park spot but I’d already found somewhere for a quick getaway.

Portsmouth FA cup 3rd round about 1970/71, traveled by footx , lost 2-0.
The last 4 games against Pompy we had scored 17/18 goals let in 2ish ,the11 in red and white that day had never met before, that’s how they played .should have got 11 of the train we have put more effort in just to keep warm.

To make things worse the southern plebs stoned the train some carrageenan windows got smashed,
I was on the train to that match. Don't remember the cold

Nothing will come close to Derby 2004. That was ludicrous.

Forecast for Thursday varies depending on the service you consult:
BBC: -4 at kick off, -5 at full time
YR: 0 at kick off and full time
Apple: -1 at kick off, -2 at full time
Accuweather: 0 at kick off, -1 at full time
Met Office: 0 at kick off and full time

I remember about 15 years ago.

The forecast were for it to dip down to -7 degrees in the evening.
It was a Tuesday night and Wednesday were due to play a home match against Plymouth.

I remember leaving work and I already felt uncomfortable breathing in the cold air.
It was at a time when SWFC were in league 1 and had Sturrock as manager and I was thinking there’s a realistic chance SW will have below 10K in attendance.

However at about 5pm that day, the match was postponed due to a frozen pitch.
It later transpired that SW forgot to turn on the under soil heating.

I think it was that one. What I remember most, though, is it was bastard cold in the ground, it was bastard cold as we headed to your car, and it was bastard cold when you dropped me off by the M4. Still, fun times!

Another cold one was the 2-2 draw with Halifax at the Lane on 2nd January 1982. Snow was cleared from the pitch and piled up round the pitch, we went 2-0 up but they came back to draw mainly due to the players not being able to stand up as the pitch was like an ice rink.

Julian Broddle made his debut that day and it might have been his only ever appearance.

For wettest, I'm going for my first away game at Hull in 1983 at the old Boothferry Park. The choice was either get crushed to death under the shelter of the stand or get piss wet through standing out on the open terracing.

Away at Walsall drew 4-4 Bobby Hatton scored in last minute they kicked off scored It was so blood Cold snow ice everwhere

Notts County away about 14 years ago. Think we drew 1-1 against 10 men

Went on the coach to this game, set off from Pond street at about 11.00 on the Friday night. 95% of those on the coach had been in the pub all night so we hadn't got very far before someone needed a piss.
Got there about 8.00 am and yes it was bloody freezing.

Derby away 2004 and Crewe 2006 I think I was 0-0 at home there had been a blizzard that gave way to clear skies and the wind was whipping through the Kop as the cladding had not been fitted it was literally the coldest I have ever been at a match to watch one of the most boring games of all time.

Derby in 2004, we travelled from Liverpool with a mate who was going to chezzy across stoke and the a50 fron Uni. It was very scary on the way over with the snow and ice. Then froze my as off at the game, walking back to the station to go to Sheffield after the customary defeat at Pride Park, lots of people falling/slipping on the ice etc.

Bonus was getting on the train and the conductor telling us to go in 1st class. Hot drink on the house was much appreciated!

Mentioned earlier on this one but as far as I’ve seen nobody has agreed with me.

Fulham at home, midweek in I think late seventies.

My dad had to take me home at half time carrying me all the way to Pond Street because I could hardly walk with the cold.

Either nobody else went to that one or I was just a nesh 8 year old.

Come on everyone where are all the “ ah yes Digsblade I remember that one, it was indeed bloody freezing”.

1-1 in February 1979? Tommy Smith scored

Southampton away at St Mary's, a night match near to New Year probably about 10 years ago

We won but I was sat with my Brother in Law in the wrong end so couldn't even warm myself up by cheering!

Absolutely Baltic and it's meant to be warmer down there.

An honourable mention has to go Oldham. During our dreadful league one period. 3 sided ground with a half finished main stand and a wind Blowing straight off the moors. Bloody frozen.

That was actually 19 years ago. The other win there was early February which I remember being freezing in 2009, last minute winner from Jamie ward straight after they equalised.

If the same game, I was at Southampton that night, a 0:1 win, it was our promotion season under Warnock. We were "bouncing" around to keep warm. Great away support that night.
It was very cold.

I went to that away match at Derby in 2004 but I can't remember being cold, I was only young though and you don't feel it when you're a kid.

I do remember hordes of people inching their way up the pavement towards the ground.

Izale McLeod had a cracker that night and I desperately wanted us to sign him.

My wish came true when we got him on loan a couple of months later and he was shit!

I will accept no answer but the Forest ‘Beast From The East’ game at the Lane in March 2018.

Nil-Nil game too… I took about 4 hours to thaw out.

It was weird weather that year as just over 3 weeks later we had Sheffield’s hottest ever April day when it reached 26 degrees Celsius.

Another vote for the Scabs at home when the beast from the east visited in 2018.

Nothing quite like a nervy 0-0 draw sat in the BLUT with bone chilling wind blowing in your face.

10/10 would recommend

Rochdale away, 81/82 season.

Freezing stood on the terrace and the heaters didn’t work on the train back to Sheffield.

As already mentioned, Derby away 2004 without a doubt. Crewe at home 0-0 the same (I think) season runs it close.

Wettest for me, Oxford away 1998-9. Drenched on open terrace. We won 2-0 on a shallow end of a pitch.

It was that wet, everyone who entered the away end was given a voucher to use to get a ticket for the replayed game if the game was abandoned.

Nov 1980,for some reason me and my mate were in their main stand and a little old lady behind us kept plying us with brandy, must have made us numb to the cold
