Brewster

We didn't get the financial return back on their transfers fees but they contributed to us finishing 9th. So they did earn us £35 million more than if we'd have finished in the bottom two.

Berge was in the last year of his contract and played a part in getting us back to the Premier League "riches". His fee was pretty much a swap for Hamer who should bring in a profit this summer if we fail to go up.
Excellent rationale instead of just moaning ! At the end of the day we are where we lets look forward instead of sniping !

It’s just become a witch hunt against a Sheffield United player. It’s toxic and is feeding certain posters hidden agenda.
It’s an embarrassment to the club and true supporters of the club.
Because someone may have a different view than you does not make a witch hunt or a toxic thread. Should people who are supporters for decades be classed as embarrassing and not true supporters of the club.

Yes some posters can go over the top but also you have posters who back Brewster not accept any criticism of the player. And the do this by picking out a word or phrase and twisting the narrative with generalisation.

The thread is part of a forum. You can participate or not. You can also ignore and not respond to specific posters. If you think that someone has gone too far then report it to the mods.

At matches Brewster gets some groans but very little stick. Moore gets abuse in most games.

I don't understand the logic.

We're light on numbers and he's getting a lot of minutes. Why would we pay up his deal and let him walk on a free? What value does that provide to the club?

The notion that him being here is damaging is a nonsense.
He gets singled out every time he plays, regardless of how he (and everyone around him) performs.

The opportunity at the backstick was no tap-in. He's stretching for it, off balance, it's on his wrong foot, the ball has hopped up in front of him... A PL standard CF probably wraps his foot over it and knocks it in but that's not where he's at.

Every manager has said they enjoy his character. He's here until the Summer. I don't understand all the bizarre anger.

As a fan base, I wish we could move on from this Brewster stuff.
The move hasn't worked out. Wilder isn't playing him out of choice, the lads doing what he can.
From my experience at games he gets groans and not abuse. I don't know about this bizarre anger bit. Proper discussion focuses on the points raised. Yes there are posters who have a fixed view on him that is negative. Like wise there are posters on here who defend brewster despite all knowb facts. It was the same with McBurnie and Berge.

Let's debate points on their merit.

If by hidden agenda you mean want us to win games and get promoted then yes there’s a hidden agenda

I personally think that the level of vitriol that Brewster gets is pretty mild, considering he has done nowt for four and a half years. It's nothing like that given to Burke or Moore who have made a much bigger contribution.

Agree the criticism has been relatively mild.

Obviously the vast bulk of fans have rightly given Brewster an easy ride due to his bad luck regards his poor injury record (which isn’t his fault) and he comes across as a nice lad committed to the club.

Think it’s fair to negatively criticise players as long as it’s non abusive and has merit based on opinions and/ or facts.

I see Moore receive criticism about his lack of goals but I think against certain teams he gives us something and is an asset but against other teams and based on how we play he can look poor. So I’m on the fence regards Moore starting but think he’s a big asset on the bench used as sub.

If anyone thinks this thread is toxic they need to get out more and see some life.

I think fans accept that wilder is he'll bent on proving that Brewster can do a job to justify him spending that crazy amount on him, obviously we,as blades want him to produce, but getting weary waiting

If you are the new owner and you see Brewster in the team after his performance last time out, you look at his goal record for us and then find out wilder paid £23m and £35k a week wages for him.

Would you be giving wilder any money to spend in January? 🤔

Starting him ahead of brooks tonight is just ridiculous
No it’s not. It’s a squad game where we use a squad. Important to use that squad wisely throughout the season but in a period where we’ve got 4 games in 9 days, I think.

Brooks, kept out by JRS for so long hasn’t played much football recently, played 90 v WBA, with high volume of sprints.

Brewster came off the bench on 73 mins v WBA having played 73 mins v Burnley on Boxing Day, getting replaced on 73 mins by Brooks.

It’s entirely deliberate to give more minutes in one game and fewer in the next 3 days later.

Brooks will no doubt be the finisher this game and start v Watford…

How do you know it was purely wilders decision? Also, what about the other great signings wilder has made? Thankfully the owners won't just focus on the negatives like you do

What is this 'hidden agenda' exactly? I assume you are trying to suggest a racial one? Just say it, don't be a coward.

Could it just be that people think he's not very good?

Yes. If I was the new owner, then I would be a grown up, and recognise that some transfers work, and some don’t. I would be highly encouraged by the value for money that Wilder delivered over the summer during his excellent rebuild. I would understand that the squad is paper- thin at the moment due to injuries, and are overstretched both mentally and physically. I would recognise that Wilder is doing his very best to juggle inadequate resources through a hectic period of fixtures.
I would then ask myself how I intend to return profit on my investment in buying the club, and quickly conclude that I need to get my hand in my pocket to enable Wilder to complete the job, and get us promoted, on the basis that he currently hasn’t got the players necessary to do the job.

What would you do?

Hopefully they know a little bit about football and that every decent sized club in the world will have made several big money signings with great expectation who haven't worked out. That's football. No reason not to sensibly back Wilder who's made some cracking signings recently.

Considering that most are advocating for him to be dropped for Brooks or One then any racial prejudice makes no sense. There’s clearly no hidden agenda

I think suggesting that brooks plays is quite radical and hints that they’re willing to sacrifice brooks to injury risk which is unnecessary….

Given the horrendous injury record Brewster has had, potentially because of rushing back in, it’s an irony not lost on me that there are people rushing brooks into a tough game on the back of 90 mins 3 days back and 17 mins before that being his only game time for a while… it shows a complete lack of understanding of modern demands on footballers

I'd be very concerned about our results against teams at the top end of the league. I'd be very concerned giving the manager any significant money to spend given how he has wasted it in the past.

I'd back him with loans and signings with potential from the same or lower leagues but nothing that could hamstring the club long term. To be perfectly honest if I had money and was serious about doing anything with the club I'd be looking at bringing a new manager in

Probably been our best player in that first half.
Unlikely to be spoken about.
They’re distracted on separate threads for Moore/Robinson/Peck … expect them to be back here if he drops a clanger.

Tbf Brewster’s been ok, O’Hare has been the outstanding player for me

He's been neat and tidy, decent all round display.

However he had a half chance a few minutes ago near goal and pulled his shot wide, not even going close to the net.
I remember Keith Edwards used to say, always get your shot on target, make the keeper work.

He’s played well tonight. His best performance in 4 years. Almost looks championship level. It’s one performance though. Let’s see if he can string a few together before we start crowing. He’ll probably be injured next week

He's had a few ok touches but never looked like scoring, when a cross comes in he's either hiding or has no idea what runs he should be making and he's completely fluffed a great chance again

Now “hiding”. A player desperate to succeed and hides when a cross comes in.

Or are we playing Bullshit Bingo?

You say he's never looked like scoring tonight but he's playing in the position O'Hare usually plays and he usually looks even less like scoring than Brewster. I'm not a Brewster cheerleader by any stretch but why can't we appreciate a good performance from him without trying to find a negative all the time.
