I think Ann was a victim of the winding down of the incumbency effect. In the annus mirabalis of 1997 Labour only just won it and retained it against the odds in 2001. Given a new candidate in 2005, the party were always going to lose it.

Arsenal have whopped us quite a few times. Didn't they beat us 9-2 in 1932 or some such?
