I wonder if Cloughy says to the lads....."Go out there and do what you do in training, you've obviously got some ability....just do me the basics right and work hard and defend we need you to but have a bit of freedom and express yourself and show us all what we know you are capable of".

To me we are currently seeing the best of the likes of Flynn and Murphy, they seems to be blossoming in more free attacking roles without over emphasizing on structure and game plans. It seems at the minute we are all about getting the basics right and everything else that the players can give on top of that is a bonus.

At half time today a mate of mine turned round to me and said "that weren't half bad that" in which I turned round and told him that in all honesty I didn't think we were that brilliant, I thought we had wobbled for 5-10 minutes of the first half and overall we weren't much of a threat. Fine we were doing the basics right for the most but in comparison to some of the stuff we have seen recently it wasn't quite on par and I knew we were capable of and expected a lot more.

Second half we all wake up, we have a couple of good breaks which seems to break the nerves and build a bit of confidence, I think for the most we dominated and at one point they couldn't handle us as we threw waves of attacks at them. In the end it was rewarded with the goal that had we not got it we would have felt robbed, but we did and again it was a couple of our men of the moment involved. Flynn and Baxter are looking a lot better for me and are stand out players.

Did we deserve the win today? Overall yes we did, looking at Swindon and looking at where they are in the table in all looks a bit fake because to be honest I didn't think for the most that they looked that good which adds to my first half disappointment, I think they were well and truely there for the taking. Second half we regrouped and Cloughy hopefully told them what we could all see, that team were there to be beat and if we didn't bag three points we hadn't done our jobs properly today.

I don't want to single out too many individuals as it was a real team performance again today. Long was solid and commanding in between the sticks, Maguire and Collins looked composed for most. McMahon who I rate highly looked comfortable and composed. Flynn, Coady and Murphy were all superb and all look quite sharp and Baxter is starting to show his class now.

Onward and upwards......let's not get carried away this is just "ANOTHER RUNG ON THE LADDER" but should we keep making these steps then we won't go far wrong. Who knows without getting too optimistic but after Christmas we might be a top half of a table team!.

Keep up the hard work blades, keep getting the basics right, stay confident and try and attack teams and we will get some success out of it.

Happy Blade again this evening!

One thing which pleased me that's gone unmentioned... When we had Swindon penned-in we saw Collins and Maguire burst forward to exploit the space. It was Magurie's burst which created the chance for the cross we scored from.

Definitely and from what I could see the orders on the sideline were to push on a bit a make something come of the pressure we had then under. Overall it was a pretty composed and comfortable display from Maguire and Collins, they are looking stead again and more like the partnership we knew from last year who made us one of the best defensive units in the country.

Amazing what a bit of confidence does for you.

Yeah I agree, but we didn't do it often enough. When we did, it drew them towards the ball creating space for others to exploit. I think Flynn was my MOM today and Murphy had the best game I've seen him play since he arrived, good to see
