Whilst I agree that he is a decent player I think he is a millions miles away from the finished article or the holy grain of the premiership.

I think even the argument of him still being young and developing is some what flawed these days when you look at how many players of the same age are consistently playing and performing in the Premier League. The Major difference I guess is that not many young CB's come through and hit it off from an early age as opposed to strikers and midfielders.

I personally think his body frame and pace will always be against him when it comes to being one of the top players in the country. Whilst I can see why the interest in him has come about I don't understand why they can't see the same limitations that we can see week in week out if they have been monitoring him?

I played down all this talk off moulding him into a defensive Midfielder but the more I think about it, the more I think it might not be the worst idea in the world.

The big advantage of young players playing in the Premier League, is that week in week out they are playing in a team of better players. May be this helps their development, whereas Harry is not so fortunate. He, like George Long has been thrown in at the deep end to sink or swim with less skillful colleagues at his side.. I think he will make it, his ability to read a game should improve and mask a lack of pace.

Thats me point Swansea fella , football is a simple game its how you play it that makes it hard , Oh ah was / is a smashing fella , just the gargle had him ruined , plus when anybody saw him in a boozer they would in a good natured way buy him a pint , and because he is an alcoholic he could'nt refuse , thats why he went missing so much in the build up to international matches over here , and big jack used to hide it

Jagielka didn't pull up any trees and was pretty much a bit part player in his first two full seasons (2000-02). He only came good in the 2002-03 season. Which is equivalent to this season for Harry.

Was it coincidental that he improved when the team he was part of improved too? I'm sure that relationship doesn't work exclusively in one direction, but I'm struggling to think of young players who emerged from a crap side.

It's an interesting discussion. I personally don't think he's ever likely to reach the heights that Phil Jagielka reached.

I'd agree with that but then Jagielka is currently considered to be one of the 2 best English centre backs and will, injury permitting, play in a World Cup next season. Think Maguire is better in some regards - stronger in the air and more composed in possession. Sure I read that Jagielka has hit more inaccurate long passes than any other player in the Premier League. Jagielka's obviously a much better athlete, is quicker and his timing of tackles is superb.

What a partnership the two of them would be together - especially with Walker and Naughton either side of them.

I think Maguire is more likely to hit similar heights to the one's Matt Lowton hit last season. A regular in a middling Premier League team.

But whilst he was a bit part player we reportedly turned down a £750,000 bid for him so his potential must have been clear to see for those in the game. Not sure many fans would've turned down that bid at that time.
