Thanks Roy, unfortunately I left my storage age slate credit chart in the side of a brontosaurus, coffee next view from....
Anyone for brontosaurus sausages?

Oh a little bit of saltiness in some comments......yeahhhh

Can't believe we have lost on Friday by Thursday 🤣

Half of them are illiterate, most of them are deluded. They are like the pigs of the North East.

Now they might beat us as they're not at the top of the league for nothing
But they're not top of the league

Or 2nd...

Or even 3rd.....

In fact they're closer positionally to being outside the top 6 then they are being top.

Thanks

The majority of this lot sound as thick as pig shit

"All their wins are against teams I would expect them to beat"

I guess that's what happens when you're top 3 all season 🤷‍♂️
Aye
Intriguingly (?!?) their losses are agin Watford Preston & Plymouth- 2 of whom we did beat & 2 that are 19th & 20th in table (both being2 points above relegation ) ?

Before reading that shite I had a soft spot for Sunderland. My best mate went to uni there. I was up there so much his mates thought I went to uni there.

But fuck me. Arrogant cunts. They never use to be like that.

I know Roy picks each end if spectrum. But it's actually angered me I stuck up for Sunderland. As bad as Barcodes

I thought they were mainly reasonable comments , some quite self- deprecating.
And I've always found their fans ok in the flesh.
To get crowds of 43k in a city of 343k trumps us for loyalty and commitment when you consider we can't sell out for their visit - they love their footy up there.
It's a mouthwatering prospect and if we win it will do our confidence a power of good.
I'm a little worried about their pace v Souttar & Robbo (we'll miss Anel) ...
But the FBs will need to help.
I think it'll be back to Gilchrist & Burrows .... Saving Seriki & McCallum for later.
We need Souttar & Robbo to stay on their feet and not dive in

It's a highly charged game so
NO PETULANT FOULS /BOOKINGS
are you listening Hamer , Souza & Peck

they will have watched us at Coventry so NO RETALIATIONS
NO FIGHTING IN THE TUNNEL.

You can't imagine a bigger contrast with Oxford
JRS , you will have to help us defend when necessary

No tippy tappy playing out from the back straight into their press NO RISKS by losing ball near our box

Coops, when you gather , look for a quick throw out to get beyond their defence before it is set.
We'll get nowhere building up slow & precise like Oxford allowed

Speed of thought & action will win it

If Brooks replaces JRS , put him on the LW and move Hamer/O'Hare to the R side to accommodate.

If we lack penetration , get Seriki on.

Sounds bad, no point showing up. Maybe if we concede now and they'll just agree to it being a 3 nil win

Cheers Panchero!

Isn't their ground supposed to be a super tough place to go? Have a good following and what have you. For a team that's spent enough time out the top flight I always kinda found that admirable. I'm sure those in S6 will disagree but I think our fanbase is quite strong and it's regularly mentioned coming to the Lane always makes for a difficult match for the away team (unless it's last season) so I always found them relatively similar.

I somewhat get the feeling these are just the loonies tbh either that or the Real Madrid fans have ended up on the wrong forum...

Essentially, we are playing a team built for the Championship with zero thought on progression

Not wrong
Yeah maybe, but I'm sure Wilder will set about building a team for the Premier if we go up...if not ,we're still good to go for next season..what's not to like ?

Thanks Roy.

Nothing wrong with being confident, hopefully some of our posters can learn from this instead of predicting doom & gloom in every single game we play.

They're one of these clubs who seem to think if they went up they'd be comfortable.
As a Sunderland fan I'd dispute that.

Our record in the top flight over the last 50 years is hopeless and I've seen us relegated 9 times since 1976. We have been an appallingly badly run club for years, perhaps the poorest run club in the country given our resources; and it's only recently that we have got our act together and seem to have some sort of plan for the team and club.

We have sat and watched over the last 8 years that we have been out of the top flight (the longest in SAFC's history) - teams like Sheffield United, Burnley and Leeds get promoted and simply come back down - numerous times. Why you think, we think, it would be any different for us, given our appalling top flight record over the last 50 years - isn't clear to me.

However the blueprint for promotion and stability in the top flight has been written by Brentford, Brighton and Bournemouth and SAFC needs to study what they have done right and follow their example - not Sheffield United's, Burnley's or Leeds United.

As for tonight - if Sheffield United sit back and allow us to come on to them - I wont be confident. We haven't been at our best, recently, when we have had to make the running. however if Sheffield United attack from the off - which they surely will, as they are the home team and your crowd will expect it, then that gives us hope for tonight. The problem we have though and you can see recent results against Coventry at home and Millwall away - once we take the lead, we have a deliberate habit of falling back and defending what we have. Although our defence is good for this league, we can never ride it out and always concede when we do this.

We used to have a good record at Bramall Lane but in recent years that isn't the case.

The point made about you having played no one of any great note at home is a moot one though (even if you dont like that point) and I note when you have played anyone of any note away eg Middlesbrough and Leeds - you've lost.

I'm genuinely not sure what the result will be tonight (SAFC haven't lost in 10, but haven't won any of the last 5 - all draws) - https://www.skysports.com/sunderland-results - but there are 2 things that both teams can be sure of - no one ever has all 90 minutes of a football game and everyone has a bad spell during the season.

Both clubs will be in the top 6 come the end of the season - the order to be determined. Long way to go yet.

Can't argue with much of that to be fair, well put as well.

I think the it'll be really tight tonight, first goal wins.

Our support is absolutely ridiculous given how shambolic the club has been run over the last 50 years. We have achieved nothing of any note, been relegated at will and spent 2 spells in the third division since 1987, having imploded twice - the last time absolutely spectacularly.

I would imagine that a lot of the premier leagues poor records will feature us somewhere - but history dies hard and the club has been English champions six times - few can match that in England, even though we haven't won the title since 1935/36. It tells you what we once were and even now one or two of the good records we set still stand.

In other words history seems to count for something and post covid football in this country has never been so well supported - you'd probably have to go back to the 1950's for similar attendances at some of the clubs. A 40000 plus average for Sunderland is remarkable considering how crap we have been and the only second tier teams in Europe who can beat it are in Germany.

You may well read a lot of nonsense on our board and others but the vast majority of fans are perfectly aware of how poor we have been and perhaps some should be slightly more circumspect. However plenty on the RTG Board expect us to lose tonight.

The Sunderland fans are a pretty reasonable bunch, there are miles worse out there eg Leeds and Newcastle, and we dont carry a reputation for causing trouble; which doesn't mean that we are soft but it means that we go to enjoy the day and hope for a win.

We have taken, for example, the maximum allocation at Millwall - just over 3000 - in recent seasons and there hasn't been one scrap of bother. Millwall hasn't bothered our fans because there has been nowt to get bothered about.

I would like to think that if you went up and spoke to an SAFC fan you'd come away with a pretty favourable impression of us - just like your mate you were at University with.

OK, but the population of the bigger 'City of Sunderland' borough is just under 600,000, which makes their big crowds seem a little less impressive. Especially since they're the only professional team in that region.

Us and Wednesday are getting combined crowds of about 55,000 in a less-populated area. Pretty impressive considering the SUFC ticket office do everything they can to stop us from buying a ticket, and the Pigs have the most expensive tickets in the league...

274,200 is the population of Sunderland - https://www.ons.gov.uk/visualisations/censuspopulationchange/E08000024/

How many did you take to QPR on a Tuesday night though? That's the burning question.

Another example of comments including dislike of Wilder. I'm not bothered but it baffles me, what has he done to upset all these rival fans?
He's nothing but respectful of opposing teams in his interviews.

I can't think of any other manager that I have any strong feelings about, either positive or negative (with the possible exception of Steve Evans). Someone called Le Bris manages Sunderland, I don't even know what he looks like.

Inflated confidence as opposed to arrogance IMO. Nowt wrong with that and should fuel a proper competitive game. Looking forward to it!

'Sheffield won't try to stifle the lads which recent opposition have done to their credit.'
What a boring cunt. Praising opponents for boring everyone to fucking death

Sunderland never got relegated until 1958 and that is an unique record! I started following football in January 1970 and I remember seeing a photo of Jim Montgomery in a football magazine thinking "The reason why Sunderland are at the bottom two of the first division is that they have a keeper who is cross-eyed" . I was wrong about him as he became one of my favourite goalkeepers since he made several brilliant saves at Bramall Lane in February 1971 (we won with a late header by Ted Hemsley). He was brilliant in the 1973 FA Cup final and I was pleased Sunderland beat Leeds. I met him when he visited my boarding school to see a pupil, a year below me, who lived across the road from him. Word got around the school and there was a long queue of pupils asking for his autograph, he happily signed them! A top man!

That you Chris ? 😏

Arrogance and a sense of entitlement seem to be traits that run through fans of all the bigger clubs in the North East.
