It's more the 'no thought on progression'.

We've nobody in our lineup over 27.... we've 5 academy players playing regularly.... wtf do they want?

Transfermarkt's average age of starting line-ups here. Yes, Sunderland's are ridiculously young (~23-24), but we'e had several entries there ~24 so not much older tbh.

Interesting views, the reality is that they are punching way above their weight. They won't finish in the play offs and they will see what a proper promotion chasing team looks like on Friday night

What a funny bunch they are with so much arrogance.

I watched the Sunderland v West Brom game in the background the other day and West Brom didn’t just sit in. There were chances to get in behind, Sunderland just weren’t effective going forwards

It’ll be a tight game and it’s good we’re playing them now rather than Sept/ Oct as they looked better then
The possession and shots against say different.

Essentially, we are playing a team built for the Championship with zero thought on progression

Not wrong
Let's be honest, even Sunderland only give thought to progression in as much as they'd like to sell their young players for big profits. You can't compete at the top end of this division or the bottom end of the one above with anything other than short term thinking unless you've got a rich owner.

2 of the youngest teams in the division by average age though

Do they? I didn’t watch the stats just the game

We had something like 30% possession in our game v Swansea, but won the game comfortably.

According to Sky stats. WBA had 1 shot on target and 1 clear cut chance… Sunderland 18 shots, 13 corners and still just 2 shots on target, with 1 clear cut chance…. Not sure what that tells you “different” to what I said

They're one of these clubs who seem to think if they went up they'd be comfortable. Coventry fans said the same. It's when you've been out of the tip division for ages and have no real idea how much it's moved on
It’s crazy- there is literally no team in the Championship that wouldn’t need to buy a shed load of new players to compete in the Prem- certainly not fucking Sunderland or Coventry.
Ourselves and Luton tried it on the cheap last season with all to predictable results!

Yes, but this is their 8th season outside the top flight, 5 of which were spent in League 1. I think they should have a little more humility if I’m honest.

Quite a mixed bag in there. Though there are a few odd comments. Some have been picked out already, so I'll focus on these that I found amusing

"we’ll score one or two while our cast iron defence will keep them at bay." - said about a team who have conceded 3 fewer goals than them

"All their wins are against teams I would expect them to beat, and a couple of them they scraped 1-0" - I'd hardly call some of those games "scraped" . Moreso we controlled the matches, and kept teams at arms length. We're being optimal with our small squad, in that we are turning the screw for short spells, rather than pushing for 90 mins and risking excessive fatigue or injuries on the players who are being asked to play the most.

It is, in fact, very wrong.

I must have missed the part where the list of centre backs and strikers you'd be comfortable starting in the PL, or with the potential to grow to that point, expanded beyond "maybe Anel on a good day (when not suspended)" compared with the start of 23/24. Please, refresh my memory. Still, at least we've addressed the keeper issue so if promoted should keep the goals against tally down to double digits

Did you take those quotes from our forum ?

We’re in the midst of a complete squad overhaul, and we’re also potentially in the process of a takeover. There’s not many teams at this level signing premier league quality, but the squad as a whole is definitely looking more dynamic now than at the end of last season.

Bit of a salty reply this mate

“My dislike for Wilder consumes me.
Essentially, we are playing a team built for the Championship with zero thought on progression. Lose and Wolder is ‘justified’ and will be as smug as they come.
Win, we win and football wins. Well, football with hope.”

What in the actual fuck is this all about?

Cheers Roy. That was probably your best one yet! I don't understand the 'they're confident' quotes. I thought they came across as, thoughtful and interested in football, pretty clued up on tactics, up for the clash and wanting an open, competitive and exciting game. Nowt wrong wi that! Some of the comments made me lol.

They definitely hate Wilder!

There were lots of contenders, for best post, such as the response:

"Aye because they started on -2"

But this is pure class:
