Driving up the M1 yesterday I was thinking about Chansiri and how he might have been feeling yesterday. Not just about the football but also the scraps of news around the takeover that might have been thrown his way. Bought his club from Mandarić, who never left a club without a profit and made penny pinching easy for the prince, who stands to walk away with multiples of what he has put in.

Just to aid my schadenfreude, are any estimates available of relative "investment" to date?

The Prince buying part of the club when we were in League 1 (think it was our first season in the Prem when he got full ownership) and selling us at a profit (with 3 Prem seasons during his time) does show good forward progression under his ownership and would make any owner a profit on their original investment.

Whereas with Chansiri, Wednesday never kicked on and eventually went backwards with a few years in League 1 recently, the way I see it he's made a loss on Wednesday as he won't get his full investment back if he sells them.

It's similar to Everton with Moshiri as they haven't got any better under his ownership and got to the point where they are losing money year after year, especially with this new stadium they're building.

“who stands to walk away with multiples of what he has put in”

Here we go again 😄

Unless they end up with a successful season and end up in the PL. At that point he might just about break even.

In January 2015, Dejphon Chansiri bought Sheffield Wednesday, aiming for Premier League football by 2017.

In that time, they have finished:
2015 - Championship - 13th
2016 - Championship - 6th
2017 - Championship - 4th
2018 - Championship - 15th
2019 - Championship - 12th
2020 - Championship - 16th
2021 - Championship - 24th - Relegated
2022 - League One - 4th
2023 - League One - 3rd - Promoted
2024 - Championship - 20th

An average finishing position in his reign of 16th in the Championship.

Prince Abdullah bought 50% stake in June 2014 (just prior to the same season that Chansiri would purchase SWFC).

In that time, we have finished:
2015 - League One - 5th
2016 - League One - 11th
2017 - League One - 1st - Promoted
2018 - Championship - 10th
2019 - Championship - 2nd - Promoted
2020 - Premier League 9th
2021 - Premier League - 20th - Relegated
2022 - Championship - 5th
2023 - Championship - 2nd - Promoted
2024 - Premier League - 20th

An average finishing position in his reign of 9th in the Championship.

I am assuming you mean money?

He'll make it back year by year in rent eventually! There's nobody who will be paying what he's put in unless they somehow go up. Even then we've shown it doesn't mean a takeover is imminent!

Interesting that the lines cross in late 2017.

“who stands to walk away with multiples of what he has put in”

Here we go again 😄

London school of 'I think and I assume' economics.

Half a billion down the back of the sofa...

The clubs latest accounts are here, covering the two last seasons in the championship, to June 2023.

The accounts show.

LOSS for 2023 at £ 31.5 million.
LOSS for 2022 at £ 16.0 million.

Thems the actual facts, as opposed to the internet 'facts'.

F'kin ell, how did we manage to lose £47.5m with all that PL wonga floating abaht 😉

Estimated investment by the current owner is around £70m? Looks like he stands to make a decent profit? Fair play if he does, it's looked unlikely at times

Chansiri wouldn't even get back what he paid for the club. Just like buying a lemon of a car, putting in way too much money to get it going only for it to end up the same old rustbucket more tired and older.

I may be wrong but didn’t Mandric defer some of what he was owed till they reach the prem?
I seem to recall he wanted a quick sale to spend time with his wife who was ill at the time so he ( or his estate ) is still owed money. Unless they go bust again.

So since the prince took complete control we've averaged 19th in the Premier league?

That feels somehow worse than top of the Championship

No.
We have averaged a position in the league pyramid of 29.7, which is 9th/10th in the Championship...

EDIT:
Sorry. You said "Complete control".

Wasn’t that the previous shareholders re the Mandaric deal?

Ok, something closer to what he put in;) With 1 being a multiple.

The info regarding what he’s invested is out there (and on here more than once). Just add the £5m he paid McCabe. Voila, a figure to do the sums with.

I’m sure you’re right as I’ve only a vague memory, something to do with unclaimed consultancy fees? and it’s probably peanuts in relation to today’s premier league money

Chansiri paid £37.5m for Wednesday, they have net liabilities of £72m, including £51m to Chansiri, I'm assuming thats what he's put in to cover losses, and then he sold the stadium from the club to himself for £60m, and apparently it's worth £22m.

So he's £88.5m out of pocket for the purchase and funding of the club, plus another £38m which is the difference between what he paid and the actual value of the asset he now owns in the stadium. So he'd need to sell the club for £126.5m to break even and that would be whilst keeping the stadium.

They're worth nowhere near that, probably at least £75m less than that without Hillsbrough, then factor in £21m external debt. They're probably only worth the value of their players, which is about £28m according to transfrmrkt

I’m just happy we didn’t have bin Mosaad bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud plastered all over the stadium.
The self promoting of the Chansiri name is vomit inducing.

You can just imagine when we play the return fixture (in March isn't it?).

Sheffield Wednesday Vs Sheffield United
Venue: The DC (Dejphon Chansiri) Stadium

Imagine the meltdown if he ever decided to rename Hillsborough in honour of himself 😂
