These are the same players that kept more than 20 clean sheets last season. Why are they performing so much worse this season?

I see it as an organisational (or lack of) problem, and the buck stops with the management team.

  • Both Collins and Hill have looked a little slower. We should probably expect them to regress.
  • McMahon and Hill have tried to contribute a bit more going forward, which may have affected their concentration and energy required to make important challenges.
  • The defence may subconsciously be trying to mask their increasing lack of pace by dropping too deep and not pushing up quick enough, meaning there's too big a gap between them and the midfield.
  • Under Weir, our hesitant and slow build up meant we gave the ball away too much in midfield, setting up breaks for the opposition.

McMahon and Hill are simply not good enough. They are poor defensively and add nothing going forward. I sit near the left back position and watched him closely yesterday in the second half ,it was so unbelievably bad positionally and actually ability wise it was laughable. I seriously don't know how he has become a professional footballer ,he cant even throw the fucking thing right. He might be a nice guy talking to the crowd and opponents and clapping the crowd at the end ,this is masking his complete inability as a footballer. White didn't support him enough and they didnt communicate as didn't Long, but he is the senior pro and a very poor one second only to Jordan Stewart as the worst left back I have seen. Flynn gave some protection to McMahon and he had an easy game but is a bad influence and simply not good enough.

Again sadly think some of above is valid about regression of certain players but so many of goals this season have been down to players not doing basics; kicking and heading ball away. You are right we overplayed at start of season but many goals have been down to not stopping the cross and then centre backs losing key headers/balls into the box. I could go through so many goals where this has been the case. It has been basics.

I agree Deadbat. I don't think it matters what Clough does on the training ground - he can't legislate for basic errors like we saw yesterday. Horrible from Maguire and Long who are supposed to be our most saleable assets.

Linz/Foxy, can we have a 'CC to N Clough' button, please?
