Partially agree but Tracy had a stint where he was unbelievably brilliant, at the time we had 2 excellent keepers which was like Shilton and Clemence perhaps not quite the same but a very hard decision to drop one that said I believe Bassett made the correct choice eventually if only for consistency.
Yep Tracey was a great keeper just had these rushes of blood which let him down.
Kelly also a great keeper and Bassett settled on him due to is steady Eddie personality.
Early days for coops yet but ! he seems to have the
mentality to be one of our best.
Tracey& Kelly were never uninvolved as we never had real control so concentration should never have been a problem for either though Tracey had moments.
This kid has a great laid back attitude ! his concentration not effected by this .
He looks the real deal! Confidence spreading from him and the defence though the team hopefully.
Just one worry from yesterday and Wilder will have taken note! Arblaster has made a great start to his career (a bigger blade you will never see) just recently a bit of slackness crept into his game! he is effecting the game positively! but also giving the ball away causing problems! Only time rovers looked dangerous was on the back of some slack moments by Ollie ( did get better in 2nd half) he gets around the pitch really well ! just hope he cuts out the casualness which has crept into his game.
He's come from no where very quickly and going to be a tremendous player for us.

He is excellent at coming for crosses.

Plays it out nicely.

Only seen him make one really good save at Portsmouth. Other than that he’s not had much to do and anything he has he’s done it well.
This is why I’m not on the - ‘next England keeper’ & ‘best we’ve ever had’ bandwagon. That’s not a criticism, there’s just not enough to go off yet.

The reassuring thing after Grbic is that he doesn’t make ridiculous mistakes and you can see the defenders are confident with him behind them

This made me check Grbic’s save % which is surprisingly high at 68% (although 55% recently). Others included Raya 74%, Allison 76%, Ederson 72%.

So whilst a smaller sample size, Cooper’s stats are incredibly high , with Tracey’s higher than any other current superstar prem keepers

Shot save %

Cooper - 85%
Tracey - 77%
Kenny - 75%
Henderson - 73%
Kelly - 70%
Cooper does give a lot of confidence in goal. Very cool and great distribution.
I do think these stats are slightly skewed because the defence in front tof him is so strong, he's not often having to pull off worldies, he is stopping low quality shots - in general.
He has made some great saves, and always seems to make the right decisions and does what he does need to do very well
I think the whole defence, himself included drive these great numbers.

Earlier this week, somebody rang FH to say that the two best keepers in Sheffield were at W*dnesday. I don’t know who the 2nd one is but he can’t be as good as Beadle. As a WUM, he wasn’t very good and it didn’t wear terribly well.

I was reminded yesterday of the very old Saturday afternoon joke which goes “what time is it at Hillsborough?” “Five past Grummitt” Kids, ask your Dads/Grandads.

As a shot stopper, Tracey was exceptional, the best I’ve seen, and right at the top of the game, but he struggled with the back pass rule change as his footballing skills were more limited than most.
I remember someone saying that the back pass rule ended Tracey’s career and it was perhaps true that he struggled to adapt to using his feet more instead of just picking the ball up, but he went on to play another decade after its introduction. He was the first sending off in the infamous WBA game in 2002

Brilliant keeper and one of the best I’ve watched

I’m not sure you can compare Cooper against the rest of that list at the moment. Maybe come back to this in a year or two.

Right now he’s reinstalling our confidence that we’re not going to concede whenever the opposition have a shot

beadle was being slated all over porktalk last night fickle lot these grunters he was the best thing since sliced bread a week ago

Quite a few keepers from that era were. I’m very one footed and I struggled with it. Keepers these days need to have decent enough foot skills and act as an extra defender at times. I got nosebleeds if I went past the penalty spot…

The top Keepers nowadays are better with both feet than many outfield players.

To receive a ball often at pace, under pressure and have to immediately get rid without giving to the opposition or putting it out of play is a skill in itself

Just to add these are career stats so includes his time at Plymouth, which both extends the sample size (not as much as the others!) and means it’s not just his time behind our defence.

Hopefully he can keep that up as a blade! I’m not sure he could have done much about the goals he’s conceded so far. The Boro one maybe, but I think it would be harsh to criticise him on that.

Best since Hodgy.

Five past Grummit 🤣🤣🤣

I agree, but I think his potential ceiling is the highest of the list with the possible exception of Kelly.

I think he has got the potential to be one of the very best in the game. And a top level Premier League keeper.

He reminds me so much of Dean Henderson, the natural confidence, and so far has been every bit as good as Deano was for us.

Two others things stick out. One is that we have goalkeeper who likes to come out and claim the ball. The last couple in Foderingham and Grbic always seemed to punch it, and more and more keepers do it, but that also says to me they don’t have the confidence to come out and claim it too. There is always something enjoyable watching a keeper coming out and claiming a cross.

The second one is that he always makes it look easy as position all the is excellent. He always seems to be in the right place to give himself the best possible opportunity to make the save

Their second keeper is Ben Hamer. Pity he wasn’t playing against Watford- his squad number is (I kid you not) 26🤣

Hamer is second in sequence of squad numbers (26). I’m hoping the ‘kid Charles’ plays next week against us. Then I can repeat the joke with his squad number (47), or, even better, his age (19)🤣
So you want the Blades to score 4 or 1 and the pork to score 7 or 9? 🤔 🐽 🤣

Our other goalkeeping target of the Summer Victor Johanson is getting great reviews at Stoke albeit he seems to be getting plenty of practice

Are you suggesting we start to criticise him because he gave a penalty away btw? His first and only (slight) fuck up all season...
