The wreath laying was really obvious in the away end? It was literally right infront of us, and I could see if from the second-to-last row

I was towards the back at the right hand side and was only aware of the wreath laying when I saw it on tv later

Although the minute's silence/applause/ Starman chant seemed to be met with approval, in the ground it was impossible to know what was supposed to be happening. Until this morning I hadn't realised wreaths had been laid - wouldn't it have been better if they'd been taken onto the pitch. As soon as the players lined up the 'Starman' chant started (understandably) and at this stage I assume the crowd in general were being told it was going to be a minute's (which it should have been). Blades fans continued chanting and the Leeds fans in the Elland Road stand started clapping. As far as I could see in the East stand there was a mixture of clapping and silence.
It seems a shame that it all appeared a bit 'cobbled together' - but fortunately worked out in the end.

I thought it was poor, bringing the flowers out whilst players lining up and then it just seemed like a mass of noise, Oxford did the minute silence impeccably

Im starting to wonder if doing something after the Stoke game, could be a option?

Don't shoot me down, but it could be a chance to get all the current squad and as many of Georges former team mates on the pitch together, while we remember George.

It doesnt have to be long, but the current players and management have applauded/stood in silence at Leeds with the supporters there.

Comments have been made re some people not being aware of what was happening re flowers and silence/clapping at Leeds, so could the players leave the field and then come back onto the field to properly share the time with fans, colleagues (all SUFC staff) and former teammates, instead of it being potentially rushed before the game?

Just a thought.

Not that the Leeds fans deliberately disrespected the tribute, more that there wasn't the usual silence in readiness of what was coming so United fans sang rather than letting Leeds potentially drown out the tribute.

I wasn't aware of the Leeds fans chanting during the announcement but during the minute they were definitely clapping. Fortunately it all worked out, but it was all a bit messy and in the circumstances I think it should have been a minute's silence ( as apparently intended).

I didn’t know what to expect from the Leeds fans last night with regards to George .. but from what I saw & heard. On TV all credit & rivalries aside they appeared to have played their part .. respect

Regarding the clapping and singing, the stadium announced a minute of silence, but the spontaneous singing from blades and the Leeds fans backing that up by joining in made it what it was. No biggy in my opinion. 100% respect shown all over the ground. I think the spontaneity added to it

The clapping and singing was all in good faith from everyone, and likewise tbh, I'm not sure which was supposed to be happening. As Grey Blade said it seemed a bit unorganised. But no complaints, it was well respected by everyone there.

This is my son. Jonny.
GB meant a lot to him.

I think others have posted since that he has written a full version which has also had a lovely response.

He's been asked to perform the song in the fanzone at the Stoke game, which he feels honoured to be able to do (I may miss it because I have to work, but hopefully someone will record it)

I think he'll sing it a few times from around 1pm, in between whatever they had originally planned. Assuming his voice & emotions stay in check.

I am incredibly proud of him.

The song leaves me in tears every time.

The response he's had from football fans all over (but mostly Blades, obviously) has been incredible.

In fairness, the club became aware quite quickly, and were quick to ask him if he'd like to perform it at the Stoke City match (more so once he did a version without the wee swearies!)

He feels honoured to be able to play the song in whatever way the club see fit.

I'm sure if he was asked to play it in the ground, he would as it's his way of paying tribute to someone that meant so much to him growing up.

He was asked to come in to play it at Radio Sheffield which he did, then immediately asked me to take him to the memorial area in the BDTBL car park so he could spend a few moments in silence looking at the tributes left.

On a lighter note:

He was quite disappointed when he was only half an hour late arriving in York for college!
(we live near York)

I however, was 3 hours late for work & spent the rest of the day trying to catch up!
