Pretty much what Jay says below.
The gulf and the money is so vast now that we can't afford to stagnate.

If we hadn't gone up under Hecky, we would be in a VERY bad place now. Hecky saved us big time.

No, of course I didn't enjoy last season, but because of last season we're still one of the top 25 clubs in the country.
Included in top 25 teams in the country (allegedly) but what is that in terms of meaning anything?

I think we've more chances than Burnley from what I've seen. Outside tip for top 2 is Norwich. Well not outside tip I think they're the best of the rest with us 3rd or 4th

Really not sure about wilder now
Got serious doubts about his mentality

He doesn't have the 'front door' mindset he used to have and I can't see us having the steel required for a promotion push based on that cowardly set up the other night
Be better to start looking for a bright young coach now and consigned him to the scrap heap
In the basham arriving game we didn't have the front door tactics. Ironically that game we went from our 3 at the back to basham in midfield.
We lost last night but mainly because our players kept giving the ball away not because of formation

I said 7th at the start of the season based on a good start more in hope than analysis after such a poor EPL campaign. CW provided the start but had the rug pulled from under him on the last day of the transfer window. The squad lacks depth and injuries and suspensions will cost us unless there are funds available to strengthen in the JTW.

Considering the off field mess regarding 2 point deductions and the never ending will they wont they be sold saga we have done remarkably well to get to 4th at this stage.

Until Friday we hadn't really been tested and we fell way short not helped by stats men getting inside the head of the manager pre game. Too early to revise my 7th prediction until we have faced all the other top teams, Burnley, Sunderland, WBA and Boro next game up.

We don't really have the luxury of not going up, unfortunately. Not unless we want to lose all our players.

Still think we'll be playoffs and pushing towards autos. One night off in the wrong setup against the leagues best team, won't put me off that.
Depends if Wilder is man enough to recognise his own mistakes

I do think that Leeds and Burnley will take top 2 with the play.off places much as how it looks now. If i was going for a dark horse to crash into the playoffs then Bristol look very tidy in the times i have seen them this season.
I also watched Cardiff last week and after todays result they could get on a good run.
Along way to go obviously so all to play for.
I think you're probably right.

I suspect Leeds and Burnley will pull away from the rest. They'll both strengthen in January as well.

Whether we make the play-offs probably depends on injuries and January. I think we're quite desperately short of a CM (to do the Vini role) and a striker (to do the Moore role). We need competition and cover. Arblaster and Peck will struggle in the week.

I think Boro, WBA, Sunderland and one other may well pip us to it.

When people call us Sheffield our fans go barmy, so can we have Bristol City please.

I’d like to reserve my judgement until after Boro. I want to see a bit of bouncebackability, especially after Wilder admitted he got it wrong against Leeds.

Eh!?

It means we'll finish in the top 5 this season. If we hadn't been promoted under Hecky, I think we'd be more in line with Preston, Bristol City etc.

especially after Wilder admitted he got it wrong against Leeds.
In the interview I watched he blamed the players for playing poorly and said that Leeds had better players. He then tried to justify 5 at the back by saying it worked against them in the play off final last season.

Did he do another interview where he admitted he got it wrong?

Did he admit he got it wrong? only saw the sky interview after the game and it was all about a plan players giving the ball away which to be fair was true the rest of the interview was about how great Leeds are and we're on the night. Chris Leeds United not Manchester City. My angst is I've a gloating brother in law and too many local Leeds fans i need to let it go, bad day at the office onto the next as they say. UTB

You beat me too it

Do we really want to go up after last time?
Yes we do
Why do people say this shit?
We need the money to remain competitive in this league without there’s only one way are heading
More over surely the aim is to be the best you can be
Who Wednesday ? You're being optimistic
He Speakers the truth we are a decent championship side who should flirt with the playoffs but will be nowhere near Burnley Leeds and possibly this seasons Ipswich Sunderland

I agree to a point his post match interview smacked of arrogance and im the boss i pick the side yadda yadda. Against other teams Wendy's and Leeds aside i wouldn't have been as emotionally peed off. I do think he is doing a very good job i know it's only one game and we always have these games in us in a season but the subs on Friday night left me scratching my head. I don't think there is anyone that could have done what he has done so far Boro will tell us if this was a blip .. let's see
The subs ffs the team that started - going to a five - which was more a 6 as Vinni played in front of the centre backs way too deep
All based on a video from last seasons play off final

Not analysing Leeds 9 games this season with a largely different team
Talking down his own club prior to the game was Warnock circa his premiership season
And putting Campbell ( who is tripe ) up top alongside Moore before Brewster is pretty poor

We kept giving the ball away due to team selection and formation

Provided we don't get any big injuries, especially in defence, I can't see us dropping out of the top 6 much all season, because we won't get beat very often and we still have enough to win tight games.

That being said, at the moment we are a goalscorer short from pushing for automatic. So we either need to strengthen in January or hope that Moore starts banging them in at some point.

I reckon we’ll finish 4th/5th, play off place confirmed a couple of weeks before the last game.

Followed by a traditional Sheffield United play off campaign of an epic semi final win, huge excitement culminating in a great day out at Wembley along with 40,000 other Blades where we don’t have a shot on target.

We’ll be top 8 I reckon, top 6 is a guarantee if we can sign someone decent up front in January

leeds were the better team by far on friday and deserved the win but boy we didnt half make em look good i think we could have beaten them with different tactics and playing at our best we will beat em at the lane

Yes he got it wrong. But your comments are reactionary rather than considered.

They are a bit but with good reason
If he thinks going back to. That stale old 5-3-2 after we got battered every week is the solution to playing half decent team so can't see a way forward

Correct but I dont want to go up and have another season like last year . Yes we need to go up for financial reasons and to keep our best players even more so if the takeover falls through . On a football front we would struggle because the gap between the prem and the championship has got even wider and even with the mega bucks that promotion brings it is not enough to bridge that gap . Plus if like we did last time and sell our assets then get ready for another horrid season .

spot on

I didn’t think we would make the play offs at the start of the season and I still hold that opinion.

The defence is much improve but I don’t think we have enough firepower going forward and that is where we will come up short.
