Can’t make the Stoke game myself but got a few well behaved Stoke pals visiting The Lane next Saturday. Don’t wear colours etc. They’re not interested in the usual away pubs they’ve done before - Howard etc. they want to visit a few home pubs in peace and soak up the pre match atmosphere.

What would be your recommendation?

Busy
Atmosphere
Fairly close to the ground (within a mile)

The Cremorne.

Does it get full, what's it like ,it's one I've never been in
Can be very full, they have a lot of staff on though. Can sit inside, or outside under cover, big roofed area. So, busy but not crowded feeling. Good selection of beers, brew some themselves. Decent stuff not shit, pretend craft beer.
Food as well, normally burger etc.

The Rutland always has no’s of sensible away fans in, each home game.

I Tried getting in the peacock other night after game ....
They asked to see my ticket 😳
Ended up going in the Grove, lovely pork pie & a pint

If you aren't a communist they won't let you in. Posters on the wall saying "Britain has blood on it's hands" don't appeal to Bert. It's a scruffy boozer and the bogs are disgusting.
Bert made the mistake og going in there once.

I understand raul is a regular visitor……

Well I'm far from a communist, and they let me in every game. Yes, it's scruffy, but that's how boozers should be. And the bogs are as bad as it gets. But you're only standing up having a piss. And sure, it's a more than a bit bohemian. But the most important bit is that it serves the best beer in Sheffield, bar none. Pints of Reet Pale in there are unrivalled. And at £3.90 a pint. Go in later, and you'll find the best Metal/Punk jukebox in town.............

It's great having pubs with whatever feel they want, politics, music etc etc. Decent, well priced beer too. But seems a bit wank if they can't keep the bogs clean though, that's just basic pub-keeping.

Plenty of choice as others have said. Its great nowadays around the lane for mixed pubs where everyone drinks together, something the police have tried to say isn’t possible for as long as I’ve been going since the early 90’s.

In addition to the ones mentioned above. Away fans in colours and otherwise have been in these pubs as well over the last few months/ years:
Cambridge St Collective
Industry tap
Panenka
Lykke
Albion

I'll point out ,and I've refurbished pubs the length and breadth of this great country a pub that doesn't look after it's kitchen or bogs isn't worth going in . Trust me they are dirty bastards

We did the Grove pre match.

Two conversations of interest

1)

raul had a marvellous looking cornish pasty so I went to get one.

Sign on bar says HOME MADE pies and pasties £3 (which was incredible value btw)

I say to barmaid "my mate's eating a pasty that looks so good that I just have to get one"

She says "yes, they've been selling really well today. We've had to go out and get some more" 🤔

In fairness, it didn't actually state who's home they were made in.

2)

A guy at the bar asked "do you get many visiting fans in here?" following up with "I'm an Ipswich fan myself"

The universal answer from people around was "hardly any" whilst I just kept quiet with a knowing look thinking if only they knew what I know 🤣

There were eight of us in the back room together with several other faces I recognised from my travels.

Give over, it's sound! Was managed by a Southampton fan, not sure if still the case! I got out in one piece and I've a fucking Tory!

Aye
Horrendous odour of urine, and on occasion, excrement
Almost if someone had micturated &/or defecated

I like the Rutland and know the owner and some of the staff well.

However, I agree with you about that particular poster.

Depends what kind of beer or atmosphere they're after.

I'd recommend the Beer Engine, Industry Tap, Rutland like others have mentioned.

Various on Eccy Rd if they're happy with 15/20 min walk to ground.
