Would you say the yoing'uns are the best combination of academy we've ever had?

We've had Tonge, Jags and Monty (yes I know only one actually came from the academy)

Then we had the two Kyles

Think Maguire was on his own?

So far Brooks Blaster and Peck are the best IMO but it's early days.

United’s version of the Class of 92. Don’t be surprised when a good number of these lads go on to have good careers in top two leagues. Maybe one will play for England too, you never know.

Best ever will be the Archie Clark's kids of 1964. Eleven from the second below photo went on to play in the first team . Two were sold for £100,000 (record transfer fee at the time was £115,000)

Maguire's era had some solid pros who have had decent careers below the champ:
  • Long: Regular Championship/Back up keeper. Currently at Norwich (Championship)
  • Ironside: dropped down to National League but now a regular scorer in Lg1/Lg2. Currently at Doncaster (Lg1)
  • Slew: Big money move to then premier League Blackburn then dropped down - still a regular at Lg2/National League level. Currently at Morecambe (LG2)
  • Mcfadzean: played for our first team in Lg1 - continued to play between National League and Lg1 including promotion with Deadpool FC. Currently unnattached.
  • Whitehouse: A regular in the National League/League 2. Slipping down a bit now at the newly established Macclesfield FC (Northern Prem)

Thats from the Youth Cup final side of 2011 - 6 of the 11 having really solid careers is great work.

You'd argue the current batch of Arblaster, Brooks, Peck have potential to be champ and possibly prem regulars if they continue their form and you could throw the likes of Osula, Jebbison and One into the conversation as coming from the same era.

Its excellent work all round :)

Probably because you only judged him with the ball. Closing down, marking, tackling, stamina, commitment, strength, determination, discipline and courage. All qualities any team needs. Monty had those in spades. Ask his teammates and managers if he was "shite".

Romantic thoughts of an utterly gash player. There's nothing wrong with that but apart from stamina and commitment, which you could get from a family pet, he was fucking woeful. How dare anyone judge a footballer with the ball, it goes against everything you should judge a footballer on 😵😵😵

Anyhow, luckily his days are done and as football's moved on, runarounds like him are thankfully a thing of the past.

Don’t sit on the fence MM .. call it as you see it 😀

Those of you dissing Monty, wash your mouths out!

Getting to play in the Premier League, you don’t get there if you are shite.

Judge him on what he could do well rather than what he never professed to do well. We were a team that surrendered possession. He was great at getting it back and at stopping talent from other teams. Paul Merton described him as one of his hardest opponents, like a rash.

Monty loved the shirt and never gave less than 100%. Judge him on what his role was, not what it wasn’t.

Paul Merton is very sarcastic, I think he's taking the piss.

Quiz question.

Who had the most assists in our 06/07 prem season?

Pretty sure Frank Lampard called Monty one of the toughest opponents he ever faced.

It's a little funny that we've got JLT here now, who has become very much a cult hero in spite of his clear lack of technical ability compared to many of his team mates, and yet Monty is getting a load of stick for the same thing.

Also, folks should go back and look at his assist for Webber to score at Newcastle in the Prem under Warnock to see just what Monty could do when he had the chance.

From that Away End Tier...

Montgomery ant...
Webber ant...
One Nil...

Loved Montgomery, my player...

Back on topic I think sereki could be best of all of them . Has all the attributes of a modern wing back.
