The defence would certainly be tighter though up front we would really struggle without BBD.

I imagine we'd have a lot of 1-0/2-0 losses and at least not get hammered every week!

Yes , i think we would be tighter t back but we would still get comfortably relegated imo

This is a very young team currently rebuilding . The deadwood shifted and this new lot are gelling well.
The confidence will only grow the better the results.
Rome wasn't built overnight but we couldn't have asked for a better start .

Not to put a dampener on things but the inevitable will happen and we will sell the best of them

The difference of late is that we screw top dollar on sales. But like every club, our best players will end up being sold on - it all depends who you reinvest it.

Who knows. We still don't know if Souza and Ahmedhodzic can perform in the Premier League. They're doing great this season in the Championship but could turn out to be as bad as they were again on promotion.

All we can say is that Arblaster and Hamer can male the step up, as they've already proven that last season. The rest all have question marks over them.

The one thing we have got going in our favour is consistency and confidence. When we got promoted under Hecky we had no real system and we were poor in most games but for a 20-30 minute burst where Ndiaye or McAtee came alive.

We at least have a recognisable style and system this time round, and we're doing really well considering we haven't clicked yet. When we do someone is going to get one hell of a hiding.

This season is reminding me of the League One promotion season where player of the year could have gone to any one of 9 players. So far this season Burrows, Anel, Souttar, Souza, Arblaster, Hamer and Cooper are already contenders.

Of course we would have done better. Last season we had no system, no confidence and struggled to put 4 passes together. From the 1st match it was clear we’d be fire fighting. How can you hope to build anything when our whole system was built around N’Diaye, so once he left the system we’d practiced in pre season was ripped up.

This 1st 11 would be much more competitive and lose 2-1 and 3-1 most weeks instead of 5-0. We’d still be relegated though.

However if we were promoted then of course we improve the squad and bring in some strikers. We might have a good chance of bringing back McBurnie and BBD for lowish transfer fees, as their clubs look odds on to be relegated, if we wanted them.

This team without BBD, Archer and McAtee would score even less in the Prem I think. Possibly we'd win even less than 3.
The defence would be a bit improved, possible we'd have managed a few 0-0s. Still relegated in 20th I reckon.

Yes but still relegated with a low points total in all likelihood. Last season wasn’t a team, it was a Frankensteins monster. Players brought in who were crap or permanently injured, players we should have let go in the summer and a smattering of kids who weren’t ready. No real shape or cohesion thanks to the constant injuries staggering from one bruising defeat to another.

The drop off in standard between Premier League and Championship is huge now. Souttar, Anel, Souza, O’ Hare and Moore are, for me, all in the bracket of too good for the championship, not good enough for the Premier League.

Personally I think the more interesting comparison is are we better now than Hecky’s class of 23?

Voted No.

The gulf between the Championship and the PL is such that performances in 1 offer no insight to how the same team would play in the other. It is, literally, a whole new ball game.

Our tactic this season so far has been, seemingly, score and then don`t concede (and QPR aside its worked) - that tactic gets found out very quickly when you can`t score, and the other team can bring on >100m of talent after 60 mins.

You basically need 2 first 11's to stay up in the PL - we don`t even have 1 at the moment.

We'd still go down conformably but this side is better. The defence from last season wouldn't have kept a single clean sheet this season
I think this is a better question as how would the team from last season do this season...

I think I am being too literal about the question but Burrows and Gilchrist last season would have been suddenly in PL football, all our youngsters were a year younger and wouldn't have been ready.

I agree we are not as good as the poor team we had in the PL, young players are still getting to grips with the Championship let alone the PL we don't have any good strikers (of our own) and we still have the same owner !!

Would we have conceded as many goals - no, this defence and Keeper are more disciplined/focused.

Would we have scored more goals - no, as people have pointed out, we're not making the most of our chances in games.

Would we have got more points - yes, discipline again as this team would have gotten either a point or all 3 from that Spurs away game, probably a point from Forest away and Man City at home as well.

Would we have stayed up - no, and neither would Burnley and Luton with their teams from this season, even this much better side lacks the game winning options a lot of premier league teams have on their benches, like the different striker options we had on our bench in the 19/20 season.

We really are topsy turvy we either have a brill defence and poor striker selection or are top heavy with strikers and the defence has holes.

However I`m loving this season so far its still a work in progress. The players we have are trying their best and wearing the shirt with pride.

I think if this team, Burnleys current team and Lutons current team were still in the PL. We would finish 19th.

I would be happy with that.

This team, particularly the defence, are currently playing with confidence, which would be quickly eroded in the PL after a few back to back defeats. My hunch is this team would put in better in performances with closer score lines while still losing most games.
