Theres a few guys mentioning Fitness of Players. What do you see wrong, and what should be done.

You cant think of anything else it could be :)

More porn. I find every time I knock one out, my heart rate goes through the roof. I think we should insist they watch 20 hours of porn a week.

Can't decide whether this was started for serious or tongue in cheek answers.

If it's serious:

Something really needs to be done about our fitness. Against Posh to be fair we kept going, but as soon as the whistle went the midfield in particular where practically on their knees. I know they did a lot of running on Tuesday night, but it was unbelievable to see really. Brandy looked knackered after 60, as did Flynn, and McMahon (right by us obviously in the first half) looked about done after 40 mins, and a couple of runs up the line.

Against Preston and Wolves, we did well in the first half, but then seemed to have absolutely nothing left in the tank for the second 45. Wolves in particular, we just didn't look bothered in chasing them or anything, just shattered.

I know the regime change may help, but the fitness guy is still there. Unbelievably, he seems to have a great reputation in the game - in the Wolves programme on of their guys said the Owen was the best in the business! Bring back Tony Daley! (Thanks Nobson you prat).

If it's tongue in cheek:

Morgs kicks the player who has run the least yards up the arse every 5 minutes during the game. That'll get them motoring.

Ive been round a few Football Fitness areas around Teams, to me they are very dated by what Ive seen. Just an observation, plus the S/C guys, dont seem to have a clue, on neuro muscular adaptation, it confuses me watching them.

So what has happened to Adam Owen. He was the "Assistant Manager - Fitness" under Weir, but it was only announced that Weir and Carsley had gone.

I believe fitness starts with discipline. We heard at the start of the season that the players were wearing HR monitors etc, which is fine. But we need disciplined players who also buy into the fitness regime.

Being fitter than other teams is the first priority for me. Get the team as fit as possible and it will compliment any playing style, formation and tactics

Not sure how they measure it, but Clough said in his first interview that Derby were amongst the fittest teams in the Championship and he'll surely want to see huge improvements in that area.

Hopefully without injurys

One of the downsides of having a total football ethos is that total footballers at our level tend to sign for managers who dont work them hard
If Clough views this as importantly as I do then he is ok with me

Big problem in Sport, are the Eyes 95% of injury's occurs because of them, while getting fit. Eyes of the Footballer and those who are trying to get them fit.

Sorry Scrap, I don't undedrstand any of that. Are you saying footballers get injured getting fit because of ther eyes?

Another shout for Tony Daley here, we've not been the same since he left

Yes, most sports people do
.
,
I really am struggling to make ant sense of this

It may stem from having players who are fundamentally poor athletes. A player maybe reasonably skilful (at a particular level) but if he can only produce this for 20 minutes before blowing out of his arse, whats the point?

That's why Tony Daley wore goggles.

Fitness is in the eye of the beholder. Er....

I used to know a physio for the academy. He told me he had to beg them, if they were going out with their mates over the weekend, to try and have a chicken shish with no sauce rather than KFC. Dont think they took much notice.

For those who don't know him, Jimmy Johnson was a top College and NFL coach. Some may consider his view extreme, but for a professional athlete it is totally unacceptable not to be as fit or fitter than your opponent. And right now, we are some way short.

Are you referring to eye injuries? I know that intense training over a long sustained period can cause blood vessels in the eye to rupture due to the high pressure of blood in the eye itself. This can lead to blindness if not treated by laser treatment
