I think brentford completely ditched their junior teams a few years ago and pulled out of all the official leagues. I recall them just playing ad hoc games against European opposition. Basically said it wasn’t a good investment for them and didn’t fit in with the ‘business model’ (which it be fair is excellent). They prefer to buy players that other clubs develop for them, which does serve them well. I guess they must have backtracked slightly but, looking at the quality they put out here, they probably just use it as a kind of reserve team to give some young players minutes.

Our model is different. I think Cat 1 would be good for us. We’ve clearly got some amazing DnA in the academy set up and it’s paid for itself several times over, over the last 20 years. Some combination of quality junior scouting & recruitment, catchment area, size of club (big but not too big) and reputation means we’ve consistently punched above our weight. It looks sustainable too - staff must have turned over multiple times but we still keep producing.

I’d like to see us double-down on this and become recognised as a one of the clubs that young players want to come to, like Southampton. We’re probably not far away tbh. Cat 1 seems important and worth the investment. I presume that when the first team move to Midland Bank then Shirecliffe doesn’t need much doing to it. Probably a fair bit of investment in stuff behind the scenes and extra staff though.

Plenty of the older ones today would be eyeing up a loan you’d imagine if they’re not going to be in the first team group. The likes of Faxon, Sachdev, Marsh etc
Ronnie Moore was in the directors box, he’s chief scout at Hartlepool so maybe someone may be going there, sachdev or faxon. Also a bloke who I’m 90% sure was Jobi mcanuff, he’s a sky sports presenter, I’m not sure if he’s a scout for anyone or has a relative in one of the sides? he was sat alone not sure why he would be at an U21’s game in Sheffield though.

Bloody hell , how far are the Brentford lads from regular football after that result then?
Clearly even further!

If I recall correctly didn’t they close their academy set up in favour of their scouting system?
So little wonder they may not be doing so well, especially surrounded by so many London clubs competing for the talent.

To make it as a pro they have to be consistent, they can’t rely on getting into 5 great positions and convert 1…it needs to be better.
Hard facts sadly.

Though the u21s won that game 6-0, they missed another 6. The finishing and shooting was poor .

That's a problem with the first team. Last week against QPR we should have been going in at half time better than 2-0. We have to see teams off.

It's Billy's fault, so good, for so long, HRH didn't think to find a replacement. Same can be said for famous 5/7 .

With Peck, Brooks and Blaster going to the first team and Staniland, Smith and Maguire released we were a bit short on midfielders so good to see us invest in the position
I saw one Oldham fan describe him as a right winger.

Somehow we have managed to end up with U18 Cup game, U23 game and first team game all on the same day!

Suprised Boyes playing , he did well against Wrexam , expected him to play tonight, he must be going out on loan again. R`ham would be good for him .

Think we'll try and shift him on permanantly in all honesty. Too much first team competition for him and he's likely not going to make it here if he isn't good enough already - same with Buyabu who I think we may end up offloading too.

Sheffield United have rejected loan bids from a number of clubs for Sai Sachdev. Lincoln, Mansfield and Bradford City are among the clubs keen on the right-back.

Marsh, hardly surprising given that he could be an option this season.

Sachdev is a surprise as I thought we would get him out on loan with Seriki (backup) and Shackleton (utility) would be ahead, just watched CW talking about Shackletons recovery and he seems happy about it.

If it's free I'll sign up.
I love watching this current crop, they're absolutely fearless.
