The interesting statistic is that we have only had 2 periods of what can be described as success in the past 25 years,Dave Bassett and Neil Warnock, both alleged by Pinchy to be hoofball managers!!I don't know how many times, or to how many people I have to repeat this, but: History shows us the best way to win football matches and trophies. A cohesive team unit, comprising players of high levels of technique and skill (relative, of course, to the level at which they play), retaining clean possession of the football, passing accurately and creatively to each other, making intelligent off the ball runs so as to create space for forward movement, suffocating the other team's space when they have the ball, playing at an even tempo but with capacity for rapid changes of pace and direction.
That, as succinctly as I can put it, is proper football. It is light years away from the ragamuffin, shadow-chasing, Gerritintbox world of prehistoric S2. It owes nothing to Dave Bassett, or Charles Hughes, or Kevin Blackwell, or Mickey Adams or any other notable dinosaurs. It does not envisage numpties like Kozluk and Montgomery as it's players of the century. Anyone looking for Comedy Gold need look no further than that proposition.
That's what I'm on about. It is not funny; it is an absolute delight, by contrast to thoughtless, brainless, hopeless Hoof. It is your prerogative, and that of others, of course, to enjoy ale house football, in the comfort of your Bladey time warp.
As a matter of interest, which Tug-O-War team do you all support? I think we should have a poll.
None of the other so called 'proper football' managers have brought any sort of success eg Weir,Robson etc.
