Our new manager is.....

Ask the professionals what they think the phrase means. They use it all the time.

Everyone is out of step except you S2 Hoofers. Even the people running our club. I don't know whether to laugh or cry!

The people running the club quite clearly do not think anything like you do. They are far less ideologically straight jacketed than you. They recognised that sticking doggedly to one system/style (call it what you will) of play was not working, and that a more mixed approach taking into account the abilities/strengths/weaknesses of our players was required. And consequently, Weir is no longer our manager.

If you're so sure of what you say, list the managers who don't believe in "pass and move".

But it's not pass and move you're after. It's pass above all else.

I have joked about your sanity. I'm starting to regret it as I'm really concerned for your mental health. Your latest posts suggest you've let a young child loose with your pc. Seriously, are you OK?

UTB

Fine thank you. I've always stressed pass and move - passing with purpose.

You should transfer your concerns to the aural health of those who do not listen to the clearest possible statements of intent from the club.

They put their hands over their ears and continue to advocate the likes of Pulis and Morgan. It's not going to happen.

Nigel Clough will be appointed shortly. Will you give him a chance? How many games are The Hoofers going to allow him? Ten, if he's lucky? Are we to never change? Are all advocates of anything more sophisticated than pub football to be sectioned?

lets be honest , we are in league one , what do we expect now, playing like Barca , is a bit pie in the sky , or even real madrid, actually matching Everton would be pushing it or Swansea, maybe a lesser version of
Southampton , hang on they are top 4 cant , maybe below the prem , say Leicester or Burnley , or maybe lets start by trying to match Peterborough or Orient, might be a better walk before we can run scenario

They believe in pass and move, as do I. That's why, much to your disappoint, the next manager will most certainly be a proponent of proper football, not your favoured alehouse rubbish.

I'm glad our 'pub' team managed:

Promoted to the Prem
Relegated twice
Three play off finals
FA Cup Semi Finals
League Cup Semi Final

Then again suppose all that crap is nowt compared to passing it to the bottom of Div 3 if you think about it sensibly

Absolutely. Careful though, the teams you name play passing football. Sensible suggestions like that will have the Hoofers after you!

It's extremely simple. The "hoofers" (otherwise known as the 99% of United supporters who are not mad obsessives) want us to win games. They want us to move up the table this season and at least finish in a mid table position and seriously challenge for promotion next season. If, in his first ten games, the new manager looks to be moving in that general direction, the hoofers will be happy. The hoofers will not give a flying fuck about the style the new manager plays or if he insists the players play in gimp masks and clown shoes.

In fact, given the extremely low bar set by that paragon of managerial competence, Weir, any manager who manages to win 2 or 3 of his first ten third division games will be seen as the Messiah.

That's how low the Great David Weir has taken us.

By the way, do you think other clubs whose supporters are not neanderthals are queueing up to offer Weir a job?

In case you hadn't noticed, it's actually impossible to pass without moving! It's more often the speed of passing and where the passes go to that is important. You obviously prefer 999,999 sideways and backwards passes per game in our own half where we have no chance of scoring a goal. I prefer us to get the ball somewhere near our opponents goal every once in a while.

Whatever floats your boat.

You really do love alehouse football don't you? Up to now I half thought you (and others with a vestige of intelligence) were tongue-in-cheek in your advocacy of kick and rush. I was wrong. You really do favour football for the talentless.

Astonishing.

Do you ever actually read what anyone else posts, because there's not much evidence of it. You should be a politician. Decide in advance what people have posted (whether they have or not) and trot out your predetermined response whether relevant or not. After all, you must be 'on message' at all times.

Personally I prefer something nearer to the way things have developed in Germany which, for want of a better expression, is a combination of Pinchy's two polar opposites. So, pass and rush would suit me. The fundamentals of a passing, possession game but always with the emphasis of going forward as quickly as possible. To see this in action watch the Bundesliga highlights on ITV.

The irony is Pinchy has become like his own worst enemy - for example the John Beck, Adams of this world have one rigid way of thinking football wise. They have a limited capacity for understanding the requirement of tactical flexibility and a dogmatic approach to one style's superior effectiveness over any other. Sound familiar?

No of course not. Why would they? They are all hoping against hope that Muckanettles Morgan might become available.

Weir made mistakes. He had to go. He knows that; I know that. You Hoofers are using him in a wholly flawed attempt to discredit proper football whilst advancing your favoured alehouse 'style'. Why? Do you seriously not like attractive, match-winning, trophy-winning football?

I fear I shall have to re-direct the men in white coats when they come for me.

mix it up a bit a bit of possesion football with a bit of cut and thrust, the bayern way , again play football that gets bums off seats and thats threatening the opposition goal , how it gets there is immaterial , Bayern often score on the counter, after soaking up pressure , but if they score 2 in 3 minutes they suddenly look classy,
score goals , more than your opponents and you can claim to play all the football you need to claim , its got in there net somehow , when man utd won the 1999 european cup they played well for 4 minutes , but became exalted, and fergie got knighted, go figure

What is Alehouse about Morgan's style? Don't give me a BS answer, explain.

So i presume when we secured 2 back to back promotions under Bassett you were not celebrating with us at Leicester and you did not attend the 1st game at home to Liverpool back in the 1st division after a 14 year absence?
You know, the pub team that just kicked people,no talent, just hoofing 60 yard balls up the park with eyes shut etc,you would rather we had stayed in Division 3 passing sideways and backwards, trying to play like Barcelona with players such as Chris Marsden,Mark Dempsey,Steve Foley,Clive Mendonkey etc etc??

Come now Pinchy, you're clearly an intelligent bloke and know your way around an argument, surely you know the concept of a Straw Man argument? You claim that 'Hoofers' are using a flawed argument but you yourself have created this huge, all encompassing 'Hoofball', lumped anyone who disagrees with you into the Hoofball camp and then denounced kick and rush football as if everyone is advocating it and you alone oppose it.

You put the cart before the horse. How it gets there is crucial. If you can kick it hard enough you can put the ball near the opposition goal quite easily. Competent defenders then repel you with consummate ease. Teams that play properly (and please stop these juvenile, risible attempts to suggest that Bayern Munich and Manchester United play Hoofball - it makes you look silly) get the ball in there with skill, technique and purpose, not hopefully and aimlessly. That may involve a handful of passes, it may involve dozens but, with the occasional exception, it will involve passing.

I am growing tired of stating the obvious time after tedious time. It's like teaching a bunch of infants.

no its not crucial , as Ive said before the year we got promoted with leeds we were on Yorkshire telly we played a 45 yard through ball Deane latched on and scored good old fred Dinage said hit and run (hoof) at its best , week after strachan identical 45 yard ball to Chapman identical goal , quality football superb long pass forward , all a matter of perception

We could play like Barcelona and wed still be over looked

So you can't list the managers who argue against pass and move

Were you at Leicester celebrating promotion??
Celebrating hoofball?? :)

So what is Morgan doing right that Weir was doing wrong?

What matters is scoring more goals than the opposition.

He's doing everything right. His abject surrender at Yeovil and subsequent nonsensical comments were particularly impressive. All this after his outstanding stint with the development squad.

We should appoint him immediately with a lifetime contract before he's snapped up by a Champions League outfit.

Upanatem!

No, I asked what is he doing right that Weir was doing wrong given that we have scored as many goals in 2 games under him as we did in Weir's last 9 games in charge?
