Time for the no. 24. Notes on some of the players:

Whitehouse: Yes, he was a great player for United, but he only wore the 24 at the start of the 1999-2000 season before packing it in through injury in around December. He played a few reserve games that season but didn't make a first team appearance.

McCall: played his first two seasons as no.8. He was 24 in his last season when he just managed 2 League Cup games.

Short: Was no. 4 in the promotion season. Was no. 24 in the PL season, but only played in the League Cup.

Sharp: played as no. 28 in his first spell, 2004-05.

McAllister: was no. 24 in the second half of the relegation season. Was no. 20 in 2011-12 and 16 in 2012-13

Tonne: was no. 24 in the 2011-12 season. Was 19 in the relegation season and 20 last season.

I am not going to designate a nightmate candidate here. If people want to vote for Whitehouse for sentimental reasons, they should feel free...

Ooh, Did Unsworth give us more than Sharp?

I felt sorry for Sharp as he had to play fetch for Beattie, then got injured when Beattie left. We never got the best out of him.

Unsworth was integral in the promotion season (and as it happens in the relegation season!)

I am astonished that 4 people think McCall's performances in 2 League Cup games in 2004-05 give him the 24 shirt.

I get the impression some people still haven't grasped the rules....

It's not really that difficult. You vote for the time the guy held the shirt and if you read the first post you are given handy hints if your favourite, for example, just made a couple of cameo appearances against Wrexham and Stockport when wearing the said shirt.
