Expect it to be Clough

Paul Walkers tweeted he would be surprised if it's not Clough

But he's also tweeted that Phipps has said the new manager will have knowledge of L1 so that rules Clough out having never managed at that level.....

I wouldn't mind Uwe Rosler, I've been fairly impressed with Brentford whenever I've seen them.

A few things from the Jim Phipps interview that intrigued me:

- "A good knowledge of L1 and L1 Players" - Suggests the manager as not necessarily managed/managing in L1, but may have come across as being knowledgable about the level.
- The word experience was menetioned several times. Suggests somebody who isn't young.
- Something along the lines of "It gives the new McCabe\Prince Abdullah regime a chance to show we mean business" - Biggest indicator to me that a 'Name' is in the offing.

My Money is on Pulis.

Bit strange he said that. Seems to point to Russell Slade. Can't see why he would come here though.
Or maybe Karl Robinson.Simon Grayson?

All logic points to Clough, as much as i don't really want him, which makes that comment look really strange.
A wildcard could be Lee Clark i suppose, plenty of talk he could get fired at Birmingham, but surely he won't get the sack in the next few days so seems unlikely.

He also said that they wanted to carry on with their football philosophy. This is Robinson's 4th year as MK Dons manager and anything above 2 years is counted as a veteran in American terms.

MK Dons play the same style and formation as what we are trying to do. He is a big name at this level and he is exactly the type of manager our youngsters need right now. He knows every player in our team very well and has planned to play us on numerous occasions.

We would be stupid in my opinion not to go for Robinson and everything about his interview points to him for me, not Pulis who could quite as easily alienate more of the squad than harmonise

Agree and that echos the comments of a replacement in days, not weeks.

Dont want Clough and I don't think it will be him. I'm convined HRH will want a marquee name....I'm hoping De-Matteo but I have an awful feeling it could be Sven

Agreed. I think HRH will want a big name to boost the profile of the club. He will have to know the league though & have been a success in the past.

Who will it be? I havent a clue...... I only hope its not someone we went for in the summer who told us when we were skint to f off. Now theres money & backing they would jump at the chance.

I wouldn't mind Uwe Rosler, I've been fairly impressed with Brentford whenever I've seen them.

He will teach our players to dive properly like Jack Lester did for us, for example Brandy's poor diving didnt convince the refs to give us a penalty. Imagine Harry having diving lessons? That will be a big thud!

All you'd get from Robinson is mediocrity plays it safe with his none penitrating passing game might make a play off place tops.

What we need and deserve is a manager with pedigree and will bring diciplne and desire to this club.

That man is Tony Pullis

FWIW, I'd install Warnock to do a 'Red Adair' job until next May. If not (tin hat time) De Canio. Prior to his appointment, Swindon were going nowhere. 0-4 at Rotherham today. His legacy has been laid.

Yeah, and he followed it with spectacular success at Sunderland, eh? He actually manged to get fired before Weir and you'd want him at SUFC???

Reading some fans's comments on twitter this morning a lot of them seem to want Morgan to be the next manager.. Are they for real?! Seriously this won't happen will it...

Someone will want to prize Cox away from Mansfield, i will guarantee that. And it will probably be a club in a higher division than we are. What he has done so far is impressive. He's put in the hard yards, but is still young and deserves a shot at a higher level. To be honest, he may even think we aren't big enough for him. The way things are going it would be no surprise to see Mansfield overtake us next season. I would love us to get him. This "non-league manager" stuff is hilariously irrelevant. For a start he is in League 2 and doing very nicely, but the main point is nobody has done it at a higher level until they get the chance.

I'd rather go with a guy who has earned his stripes at a lower level, than some showoff fancy pants international who has never achieved anything as a manager. Hiring a manager is just that, i don't see how being a good player is particularly relevant. You can know the game inside out, without being that good at it yourself. If you hire someone to manage a cleaning business, you wouldn't expect them to have won the international shithouse scrubber of the year award.
I agree k'mac, remember lawrie mcmenemy (Southampton) FA cup winner, league cup finalist, ex Coldstream guard I believe.

We don't have 1 player that suits Pulis. He is more suited for the pig job than ours

Paul Walkers tweeted he would be surprised if it's not Clough
Just before we appoint Wilson, Paul Walker was a guest at an event I was working and I asked him if he knew who was getting the job and he said "I'm not 100% yet but I would be incredibly surprised if it's Danny Wilson" and less than a week later Danny Wilson was in charge

Brilliant!

I also remember the time when Wilson was sacked.

All the Radio Pig lot were saying it was aload of bollocks & they had heard nothing about it.

Then an hour later.........

"there could be something in those rumours"

The truth is they know as much as us.

Also back on the Clough for Manager. I wouldn't be unhappy with the appointment however it's not a game changer for me. It doesn't inspire, however Ihope the players will think differently

Whoever it is;

WE NEED SOMEONE TO MOTIVATE THE PLAYERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (and please God don't say Warnock).

There is quality (somewhere in there) but their confidence has hit bottom.

Two back to back wins would take us clear of relegation, and from that point instead of looking back we would all be looking to see if we could make the play-offs.

Agree, we need someone to come in and put a rocket through the place, to inspire the squad and the fans, to get everyone firing, caring, get the passion back in pulling on the red and white......Clough wont do that, he is a Weir clone and forget dinosours like Warnock and Pulis too.

If De-Matteo is remotely interested then throw the kitchen sink at getting him in.

There was an article on the Sheffield Star Website yesterday that has disapeared.

Its said that the move had hit a snag due to clough waiting on his compensation from Derby.
If thats the case then he can fuck off.
I only want someone that really wants the job & is not prepared to wait.

Don't think you know much about Derby if you think that is the case. Derby have made bigger cuts than us.

I've been scouring google for opinions on Clough and it does seem the general concensus he was harsly treated by Derby after doing a very good job of stabilising them.

I'd certainly be happier with his appointment than I would have been previously.
Apparently though, he was only on a rolling one year contract at Derby, so if he does get our job I think United should only offer him similar.
The last thing we need is be tied into another 3 year contract for Clough and any backroom staff he brings.

Pat Murphy refers to it in his comment for the BBC

Sheff Utd would have to wait some time if they want to land Nigel Clough.Financial settlement still outstanding v @dcfcofficial

Well i,ve heard that Nigel doesn't want the job because we beat Forest in brian's last game, he's a very loyal family man. (martin samuel was the source):fattwat:
