...how, as professionals can some just stand in silence, motionless looking towards the floor or nervously messing with socks/retying laces?

We have nervous, off form, unhappy youngsters fair enough, but those who have been there and done that... Why no responsibility? Why no geeing up, no instruction, not even acknowledging there are others stood around you on your side?

It doesn't take quality, skill, or even that much effort to look bothered and at least try to orchestrate some kind of response/drag others through it.

All it takes is an ounce of responsibility and some bollocks.

Some fans will say they don't want to play for the manager, there's no particular evidence for that, other than us being crap... But even if it was true, it's absolutely no excuse and certain members are now on yet another manager they let down.

Marlon King can have a go at it, why can't our captain and the others?
 



Because technically the players we have aren't good enough to give it a go and they know they aren't. Lyle Taylor for example, 30+ goals in Scottish Division One, 13 competitive games for us, 0 goals, Jamie Murphy, almost single handedly helped Motherwell into the Europa League.. We have a team full of either old and past it, journeymen, inexperienced or unfit, players that aren't good enough for the league were in and that will be a proven fact when we go down. Weir isn't a good manager he doesn't appear to be hands on, he likes to be the gaffer and let his bitches run around after him (Morgan & Carsley) we have an inexperienced backroom team who won't ever get the best out of the bad players we currently have because they are tactically inept, Weir may one day become a brilliant manager, not with SUFC but he'll remember this "journey" well as he'll learn from the mistakes he made from this job when he eventually does get sacked or walks and he'll become a better person for it, he was a brilliant player but Walter Smith made him that player.
 
If fairness ,Foxy,when you see the manager make substitutions like he did today and think all the players lost hope.

In slight defence of the captain,he didn't hide and neither did Collins or Harry. Baxter spent most of the game passing to the opposition and that was probably the worst full back pairing ever to play for the club.

The soul appears to have been taken from the team and the players look lost,demotivated and disheartened. It is difficult for any emplyee to lift themselves under those conditions that is solely down to the management team
 
Unfortunately we live in a world now where people will only perform when they want to. If people really think this is going to change under Weir at any time they are sadly deluded.

The new manager needs to come in and get rid of the bad eggs and bring in a leader of men to captain this team. I won't be happy until someone comes in and realises that this club will not turn the corner until the rotten core is out of the club. This includes Doyle, McMahon, Hill and Collins. Youngsters will not perform with them about and they are not good enough to lead us out of this shit.

Please let someone come in and get these guys fit and firing. The ability is there somewhere and when fit we would see a huge difference. New manager and a new captain (like Morgan) and pronto please.

Been at work only just got home, did we play with one up front again tonight, or did he play King and Taylor?
 
King and Taylor, may aswel have played nobody upfront, though.

Baxter was the worst player tonight, by a million miles and i've seen him at Oldham, brilliant player on his day.

King and Taylor up front. It looked like it couldn't possibly get worse. Then we swapped Taylor for Ironside.

Thought Ironside did a lot better than Taylor did in the first half, though the referee was shocking too along with the linesman with the yellow/orange checked flag.

Disagree on Hill, he always strikes me as more up for it than most and gives his all, but has his limitations technically.

Good managers sign strong, respected characters and leaders who can be their voice on the pitch.
Like Stancliffe and Gayle and Page and Morgan.
Weir has signed 13 players and none of them has those qualities.
He should have made it a priority.
 



It needs a change. But the right man.
Something KM and the rest seem utterly incapable of getting right.
The trouble is, they always want yes men.

We need a real leader. A down n dirty, hands-on tracksuit manager, but a clear leader.
Yes like Warnock, but not him though. I think he's had his day.
Not some remote stiff in a suit who the players feel no connection with like Sven.
We're in the mire and we need someone who can battle.
I don't know who, but that's what we need.


Whoever it is, we need to not give him a bloody 3 year contract an all!
And yes, we need Doyle at least released from the captaincy. Who knows, he may even play better without it.

This is absolutely spot on. One of the first things good managers do is bring in a captain. This has been sadly missing since Morgan. Not one of our players is capable of leading this team out of the shit

Haven't you just described Pullis? The comments about getting a leader on the pitch are spot on too. One who is in tune with the manager and will run through walls for him.

I think its safe to say that Pinchy might go on a muderous rampage if Pulis is appointed...
 
This whole thing about the captain (not just Doyle, but captains generally) is a bit of bollocks to me. I'm a huge believer in 11 captains on the field and one bloke who goes up for the toss. Off the field maybe, a focal point between players and management, but on the field each is responsible for his own attitude and effort. It shouldn't need one particular bloke to have that responsibility of making sure everybody is on their game and giving the required amount of effort. That is each and everyone's responsibility.
Someone mentioned Doyle not being 'liked', well, probably the most influential captain I ever played under was the most disliked and disrespected person in the team, but on the field he had a powerful presence (then again the team was full of powerful presence) and was a lucky twat when calling heads or tails!
The least influential captain I played under was one of the nicest most liked blokes (and thickest) and a great player to boot.
My point being that the skipper had minimal influence on how we reacted to going a goal down or playing shit. It was always collective chivvying and everybody inspiring everybody else to greater effort or attitude.

Which is exactly why I didn't single him out. I absolve the youngest and more inexperienced members of the squad of some of that responsibility, but there is absolutely no excuse for the more experienced in the squad not stepping up and taking responsibility to drag us through.

We had a throw in on half way at one point last night where I noticed nearly half of the Hartlepool team taking responsibility for organising those around them and the captain was "geeing up" the team. By contrast, Sheffield United were either staring at the ball in the takers hands motionless or looking at the floor... All except for Marlon King, who was telling Taylor where to go.

It's absolutely not the only problem we have, but it really doesn't help.
 
This team has absolutely no leadership for the circumstances. We need a core of players who won't give up on seemingly lost causes and who will inspire their teammates. McMahon, Doyle and Collins are the senior pros in this team but none provides an ounce of that.

The only player who seems to even care is Marlon King - and that says it all.

No, that's not right.
Pinchy thinks Stoke "played much better football than they were given credit for and was pleasantly surprised at how superbly Pulis has adapted to The Premiership."
Plus Pulis has no previous Bladey-Bladey-Blade connections to United or any nearby club.
Therefore I suspect Pulis ticks all the right boxes as far as Pinchy is concerned and as we all know, what Pinchy thinks is of paramount importance when we come to choosing a new manager.

Why, when we have the resources of the Sheikh and McCabe?

O'Neill would have to operate within the fair play regulations, just like everybody else, and with the money provided.

Now I am not saying he would take the job, and it would be very surprising if he did, but he would be my number one choice.

Also; don't swear it is rude, even if you apply some algebra to the swearing ;)

To be fair to HH's suggestion ,Oneill works better when he doesn't have pots of cash ,like Warnock.
