Outgoing? Anel

We are in the EFL, there is also alot more players capable of playing at this level who may be better, cheaper, more potential and a stronger character. We saw one of them tonight.
At this level we keep Anel unless a huge bid comes in. And who are the 'a lot more' players that are better and cheaper you speak about?

I thought his release clause was $17m (from page one of this thread). I reckon that's a fair price though.

Let us not forget that in summer 2025 Anel joins the ‘one year on his contract club’ and we know where that ends up.

We’ve seen him at the top level. Maybe he’s grown but there is a few where it makes perfect sense to let him move.

I’d say 14-18m and you’re open to negotiating a settlement.

At the fee you’d get him for, Worrall would still be an absolute steel for the task ahead.

i think if you know that Soutter and Robinson are your 2 for the season, it would be wiser to get another loan in on the defence. We do need another striker who can make the difference and a good swap with Moore.

These two both did well in the Championship

AShley Phillips - SPurs (Plymouth)
Bashir Humphreys - Chelsea (Ipswich)

Mentioned in Shoutbox... If Anel goes, Souttar starts.

Therefore, are Worrall / Mepham likely to come as supporting acts?
Surely the pull for those guys moving down a level would be the opportunity to play games? Maybe going after someone like the Hull City bound Charlie Hughes, a prospect, would be a more intelligent signing for £4m? Someone that can develop with us and has a higher ceiling.

If we did get £15m+ for Anel, reinvested £5m on his replacement and were able to add 2 or 3 others (still light in midfield, wings and CF) then we'd be really well stocked for the challenge ahead.
We'd miss Anel's pace and goal-threat, but in a back 4 he's going to be limited in his ball carrying anyway.

What about telling them that Robinson is Anel instead and hoping they fall for it?

Robinson is a 100% blood and Thunder person. Loads of people love that. I personally think he's a shit footballer though.
He’s a defender and he defends. Anel has an easy on the eye running style and likes to come forward with the ball, this fools people into thinking he’s a decent player when in fact he’s a defender that can’t defend. At least Robinson wins some headers which is the bread and butter for a Centre Half.

Agree entirely re the contract situation. If anyone is 24 months out and we get the feeling they’re not onboard then now is the time to ship them out. Need to plan the squad 2-3 years in advance and take some informed risks on offering contract extensions. 12 months left and you’re looking for a lollipop and a pat on the head. Just look at the Cooper fee (which actually makes me think we got decent fees for Illiman and Berge in retrospect).

But Anel does give me mixed feelings. If he can recover his form of two years ago, he offers us something that no other club in the division has from that position.

I guess it comes down to the fee. As you say, anything north of 10-12m and it probably starts to make sense.

Anel has had one great season, one appalling season and plenty of potential. I would be over the moon if we got 15 million, but I would take a fair bit less. We would still be making a good profit and it would still generate funds to bring in a good play, either proven like Worrall or developmental like Hughes, with cash less over to cover the seasons losses. Whatever the short term benefits given we know he is decent at this level, he was signed so one day we can move him on for a profit and now would seem the best time, as we are in a rebuild, have cover in his position and he into the last two years of his contract

I'm in two minds on this one. I would hold out for the (reported) £17m release clause. If it's met then it's up to the player anyway. With Souttar and Gilchrist we are arguably already covered at RCB, so a low cost replacement may be in order, such as resigning Egan if his injury is clearing up. That leaves money for a marque centre forward that could complete the picture for us.

Agree, think a top loan upfront will have much more of a impact than keeping Anel.

Thought Egan had gone to Burnley

So he’s actually not saying he’s off?
To get back on topic, I don’t mind Anel going. However, I think he’s the better defender out of Robbo & Anel. I really think we’re a RB & CB short if Anel leaves. Unless they’re looking at Shackleton for that RB position as he’s more athletic than Gilchrist

Club are prepared for him to leave and expect him to.

As it stands, most likely he’s going to Ipswich.

Going nowhere. Unless somebody bids a ridiculous amount. Which hasn’t happened yet.

Ignore the twitter dog nonces

Honestly don't think he'd be a big loss at this stage and his attitude sucks.
Starting to think I'd sooner bomb him off than not.
Confident we could improve the team if we reinvested the proceeds.
