Admittedly pre-goal we were appalling, but contrary to what a lot of people are saying, I thought we were quite good after that, the confidence seemed to be up and we showed what we could do with more gelling of players, better fitness levels and hopefully two up front. McMahon I thought was particularly impressive, along with Coady who I would like to see start, and there looks to be a potential partnership between King (good finish) and Taylor. As a fan, negativity will never help so lets keep our chins up and stay behind the team!

But the fact everyone on here has been saying we needed to try 4-4-2 for weeks and Wier has only just tried it says everything about his managerial skill. What are the chances he will revert to the norm next match

McMahon is a psycho and was lucky not to be sent off - but I agree he played well 2nd half - he added some much needed urgency & positive intent. But overall it was yet another shockingly inept performance. A disgrace really. Weir has got to go.

Can't believe Coady hasn't been starting matches, hope we put the first team out against Hartlepool, never know a win there could re-ignite some confidence.

You think we will win? HA HA HA sorry with him in charge it wont happen

Positives?

There weren't any. Oh heres one
It didn't rain

Obviously most see 4-4-2 as the way forward, but where does Baxter fit in? I think you have to play your best players in their genuine positions, so maybe only 1 holding cm and keep Baxter forward?

I'm pleased with that, as however depressing it is at the moment I think you have to stand by him for a while yet.
Don't agree although if they did sack him they must have someone lined up to take over straight away.

Don't think I was at the same game as you are describing mate. Even after the goal we weren't good enough. We attempted to get at them but thats where it ends attempted. We lack the understanding and quality to threaten teams. We look like a team of 11 strangers. I agree with one point, that Coady lad came on and did a couple of positive things but Taylor wasn't on the same wavelength as King tonight and didn't show the quality to even deserve to be on the same pitch as him. McMahon had a couple of pings but other than that it was the same story of getting forward only to turn back on himself. Overall pathetic even after the goal and not good enough to win games! And no it wasn't 4-4-2 with how deep we played, nobody has the confidence to play in an attacking position because they know that on the break we concede.

You're fighting a losing battle round here mate.

I'm 15 so have to suffer sober.

15 and talks more sense than 80% of the people on this forum.

The problem isn't simply about a formation, it's the way the players perform on the pitch.

Weir's formation *can* be more attacking than 4-4-2, IF the players play in a way in which we get forward in numbers and create.

The problem regardless of formation was that once again, many players hid and we struggled to create any space and for anyone to take responsibility.

Hall had a bash first half, coming more central and with a complete lack of option each time chose to run at his man and try and stretch things. Brandy tried this once or twice, berating his fellow midfielders when they didn't take the opportunity to then find space.

They are visibly nervous and lack confidence, but the only way they are going to alter that is by having the balls to take responsibility and make something happen. Too many of them for long periods were happy to go through the motions and sulk.

For the stick he gets, Marlon King never stopped talking and was particularly vocal with Brandy, constantly telling him where to be, what to do and encouraging him (funnily enough, his goal was created by a Brandy pass, from the positions they were both in at one point during the first half, with King talking him through where to stand when not in possession and where he'd be)... we need more of the more senior pros to be doing that and also coaxing some fight and determination out of those around them.

Without that, we could play any number of formations and carry on to the same effect.

More like making excuses than providing answers

It's not making excuses it's true. The squad has been ripped to shreds and weir; rather than papering over the cracks is doing what needs doing - it needs a full rebuild.

Nearly there now. McMahon Maguire Collins Doyle & Long are the only survivors at present.

3 of the back 4 that kept so many clean sheets last season but this season never look like not conceding, there is something wrong down there.

Yep - Weir has brought a few in. But the negative, slow, passionless approach he has instilled means we are in danger of being relegated.

Two of the things you've said there pretty much show why Weir should stay: 1) Team of strangers - because Weir had to rebuild the squad this was inevitable, it'll come with time 2) Taylor not on same wavelength - I think if given a chance this partnership could turn into something good, but players who have had about 30 minutes on the pitch together rarely click straight away. It'll come as they learn each others games.

He's rebuilding it with the likes of Lappin. Cuvelier (?) looks rubbish. Taylor looks rubbish. Half his signings don't play. Some look to have ability, but the set-up is so ineffective.

If this is rebuilding then let's start dismantling.

I think Taylor looks promising and Cuvelier hasn't really done enough for me to make a judgment but I reckon he'll come good.
