Massive praise for Wilder

There is no team better than us - call me delusional but I genuinely think if these players jel the way I hope they do, I can see us champions

Long old season mate. I think we probably have one of the better 11's in the league but you need more than that.

TBF losing the players we have, I'm just glad it looks like we've a chance of being in the conversation.

Now If that side doesn’t win the league, I’ll be stunned. In Wilder we trust he was always the best man for a rebuild

I think we need Vini in there for defensive support and breaking up opposition play. I also don’t think Brooks deserves to be dropped after Friday!

Very decent team, but paper thin squad.
And with our injury track record that will be the big issue this season unless we get some more in asap.
Let’s see how some of the youth players perform tonight- think we could well see a few who are more than capable of competing in the Championship- Peck, Marsh, Seriki etc

He’s certainly pulled together a very strong 11. I do think we’re short in terms of strength in depth when looking at Leeds and Burnley. Once suspensions and injuries kick in the options look slim. If Arblaster, Hamer or Moore miss much football we’re struggling

I wasn’t overtly thrilled when he came back. Chris wilder will always have a place in my heart for giving me some of my best United memories. That league one season is one of the most enjoyable years of my life. It was before my kids arrived. I went home and away and spent a year pissed out my mind signing about some fella heading bricks. Just the way he left felt unforgivable at the time. He’s pulling together a decent looking side but it’s going to take something special for me to really forgive and forget.

I’d like to see us persist with the 4231 we played Friday but hopefully with a few wilder tweaks. The overlapping centre backs got people talking and was unique at the time I’m hoping he adds some unique quirks to this side as well.

The whole rebuild thing and moulding his team seems to be Wilder's gig, similar to how it was in League One and the promotion season after it, cherry picking some of the best talent at knock down prices. Some for the long term, some to tide us over, some we can make a decent profit on alongside giving some under performers a right kick up the backside to prove themselves.

We're still perhaps 3 or 4 bodies short when it comes to RB, CM and some attacking players but the early signs are looking decent and there's still some loan spots to be used and movement to happen in the next few weeks.

Hopefully Grbic will be packing his bags for a gig in the Spanish third tier, send Coulibaly on his way, god knows what Tom Davies is doing, if Souza goes then I'm sure we can live with it as long as we get a decent replacement in time, though I think he might do ok this season against lesser opposition if he's winning and getting his own way.

Useful having some youth players who can chip in and make a contribution too.

Some absolute quality has come into the club, you can not deny that fact. That starting XI on paper has to be one of the best squads in the league...

We do need a bit of depth in the squad, as said above it is a long, hard season. We are going to see players sidelined as we have already with McCallum and Shacks. With this in mind, I would still like to see 3 more players later in the window to give us additional depth across all 3 lines.

Not sure the depth is too bad.

No team really has the depth needed to cover the rank injury record we’ve had over last few years.

Couple of players in each position and a bit of youth sprinkled on top but when you factor in injury prone in DMC and Striker we are pretty light. A lot depends on Brewster and Davies, which lets be right can’t be relied upon.

Cooper / Davies

Gilchrist/Shackleton/Seriki
Burrows/Mccallum
Anel/Robinson
Souttar/Trusty

Souza/Davies/Hamer
Blaster/Peck/Shackleton

JRS/Brooks
Hamer/Slimane
OHare/Campbell/Marsh

Moore/Brewster

I agree that the signings we have made have been very good and our starting XI is up there with the best in the league.

But we're a couple of injuries away from the likes of Grbic, Seriki and Brewster starting for us. Nothing against them but they are most definitely not 'winning the league XI.'

Still 3-4 signings needed to flesh out the squad, else we're likely to fall away as soon as suspensions and injuries hit.

Agree....the depth isn't great (not as good as Burnley's) but it's not too bad either.
We can deal with suspensions and short term injuries....I suppose the issue could be if we have any long term injuries

Also regards the centre half pairing.
The original poster has given Robinson and Ahmedhodzic as the best 2
but wouldn't surprise me if Souter becomes 1st choice.

Also what about the forgotten man, Rhys Norrington- Davies?
who was looking a fantastic player 2 years ago....at left back or centre back. He's just been given an extended contract.

It’s a fair point Bob, but personally I’d have those two in centre mid and CAM ahead of Vini I’m afraid
No chance. Souza is the power house that we need in this league. He won so many headers, tackles and is incredibly strong. If we can keep him he’s could become one of the first names on the team sheet.

Very Impressed with Burnley yesterday they looked so powerful athletic and quick reminded me of Big Sams Newcastle who swept aside all in the season in the Championship

Wilder has made some really shrewd signings. It's still early days but none of them seem to be duff. Makes you wonder what happened with the Garbage signing as that was on Wilder's watch. I can only think that he completely relied on the scout reports and of course we've changed all the scouting staff since then.

People were bemoaning Hoyland and co coming to the club so it'd be interesting to know how much they have been involved in the summer signings. You wouldn't think you'd need to much scout input to tell you about O'Hare and Moore and most of the other players are proven at this level.

Regardless, it looks like we've done some really good business.

I agree with the heading, I'm not sure I agree with the team or that i'd be stunned if we didnt win the league. Burnley & Leeds have very good teams. Championship games aren't won on paper unfortuantely.

Also, you've got to be having Souza in that middle 2.

I must admit I had doubts about Wilder coming back, didn't think he could hack it,he's having a go,good for him.🤗

How many are allowed in a squad?
if we follow alot on here, the quality youngsters would be pushed out!
Can't replace Brewster and Davis if nobody else wants them.
