Sky made the Premier League! If they hadnt invested at the outset of the PL (obviously for their own purposes! Which proved to be masterstroke!) then it wouldnt have taken off as it has done.

Im no fan of games being moved, and the lack of sat afternoon games is a shame. But a) everyone knows plans til end of year, b) its making it more accessible for more people c) a sky subscription is cheaper than going to two matches a month at the lane d) without Sky's money EFL clubs would be in serious trouble. BBC / ITV / CH4/5 arent going to pay for it. TNT wont pay for it.

The overpriced argument doesnt add up for me. If people cannot afford it, then simply dont pay for it. Sky have a product that they can sell at whatever price they want, im sure their margins of profit are good and the figures will obviously stack up in their favour. Its not on them to make it as cheap as possible so more people get it, the world of business doesnt work like that
Can’t you see what’s happened to the Premier League it’s become predictable oh and don’t forget VAR and once that happens people lose interest. The premier league bubble will burst problem is damage has already been done.

Let’s just hope they don’t fuck up the championship.

By the way Sky are losing subscribers truth is it’s overpriced and just went up another 10.8%.

Wouldn’t be surprised if Sky start mooting and encouraging the need for VAR in the championship as good for their viewing, or so they think. Well look at the Premier League now can’t celebrate a goal. Good luck with your Sky propaganda truth is people are leaving them in droves

Long term, all TV will be streamed and no doubt Sky will be a big part of that. If they hold the broadcast rights to football and other sports, they’ll still attract subscribers.

There will always be people out there that prefer to pay for Sky instead of a dodgy IPTV service.

I dont doubt they are losing subscribers, people generally are struggling for spare money at the minute with the cost of everything rising and a sensible thing if needing money for more essentials is cancelling a TV contract which could be described as a luxury. The 10% increase just matches the increase in minimum wage, and generally how much most things have gone up, its the same every year with minimum wage increases, companies put their price up by an amount relatively similar amount. Noone is better off as Sky staff will have had an increase in April too to keep them at the level they should be.

Have a look at that, bar an exceptional year in 2021 (Covid - people staying at home), SKy are still are generating 14bn in revenue. Think around £200m in profit for financial year 2022.

PL is predicable, 100% agree. How is that Skys fault?? Isnt it predicable because one team have a richer owner than the others and they started their ball rolling before FFP became stronger. I dont believe FFP /PSR or whatever it is called works properly anyway, it stymies competition, thats not Sky's doing.

I dont see the bubble of it bursting, it generates massive income through broadcasters all over the world. And it has aims to grow even bigger. Wait til games get played in the US, Asia, the PL will grow more and more.

Im not spouting propaganda, just my opinion. People want football back to how it was 40 years ago....the world has moved on. The way the future viewers of football want it will be different to someone in their 50s / 60s, hence all the 3 min you tube highlights, goals after games on apps. VAR is good for the armchair / online spectator, of which there will be a lot more than actually go to games. Streaming will be bigger and bigger and Sky will be a part of that.

They'll be some awful top flight games too. Bournemouth v Fulham on a Sunday, or something. No thanks.

I do wonder who tunes into these types of games, who aren't fans and include some of our games in there too.
Bournemouth and Fulham both play plenty of good football and literally every one of their players gets in our team - loads of international players, that could play at big European teams... Respected foreign coaches too... So there's a good chance it'll be a good match! The match also influences the overall league table, obviously.

The people that tune in are football fans that weren't stupid enough to get married and/or have kids! Sadly I'm in the latter camp.

Long term the Premier League should set up a streaming service they themselves own. The profit will go through the roof.

Issue with dodgy boxes is they can go down at any time, last season had it for 4 months before it was closed, presumably they were arrested or something. Obviously that's the risk we take when paying a fraction of cost of the official channels.

This is what I dont understand why pay for dodgy IPTV service when you can set up a firestick yourself for free and get same access. Obviously I`m not going to say where you can get the guide from as this is a grey area thread but its easy to find. Okay it might still not be 100% reliable but at least you are not paying for it to some dodgy bloke plus your details are not stored on said dodgy bloke's computer so when the Rozzers come they have your details too and the free way is not going to suddenly disappear cos someone got their collar felt. Along with NordVPN its a winner.

Saying that I generally buy my matches from SUTV live when you can for my armchair ride but this Sky Sports+ looks great.

In the 17 seasons before PL and sky there were 6 different title winners (liverpool, forest, villa, everton, arsenal and leeds). In the last 17 seasons of the PL there have been 5 different title winners. (man city, man u, chelsea, liverpool, leicester). Not much of a difference really. City have obviously dominated the last 6 out of 7 season, much in the way Liverpool did in the 80s.

I don't get this hatred for Sky. There are many folk that can't afford the cost of season tickets, transport, food and drink for themselves let alone a family. Sky allows fans to watch and support even if they can't attend.

I'm happy enough to pay a sub to watch us away from home. I don't make many away games so Sky is perfect for me.

Everyone is different of course.

It's about a quid a week mate for all the games in the world

Out of interest why does it have to be set up on a firestick? I presume you wipe the Fire OS and put summat else on so can't it be on any computer? Is it just beacuse it's convenient for connecting to a tv? Like I say, just out of interest.

It doesnt have to be on a firestick you can use the software on a PC, on a mobile phone, on a tablet. It doesnt touch the Fire OS its just a firestick is an easy way to add the software and it just plugs into a TV so convenience. It can be done on any other TV device that accepts a certain type of software. It doesnt have to be an Amazon one. Reason why its described as a firestick is this is what they used to sell on Ebay with the IPTV software on before Ebay banned them or most of them anyway. I look at it that the IPTV way is for the ones who are not technically savvy (no offense anyone) its just plug and play and pay. Of course there are legal IPTV channels its not all dodgy types. The authorities are clamping down on the IPTV way of doing it because of how much money is made and the copyright holders and streaming services are losing out. After all its illegal at the end of the day. Although this is not really General Blades chat or to do with Sky Sports+ which is a legal and official way which we should all be doing so its not worth discussing anymore.

Going back on track I have the Sky channels with my BT or should I say EE TV subscription and I've checked and Sky Sports+ appears on there too. Noticed also the PNE match is on Sky Sports Arena channel. So I will definitely be watching the matches this way.

Ta. That's a useful overview - was all I was after.

Edit: was wondering about getting some sort of Sky streaming service but don't want a dish, and I do want to watch on a computer not tv. For that scenario they suggest NowTV but that doesn't work on Linux which is what I have on all my machines. Also NowTV costs nearly as much as full sky sports from what I can see. £34.99 a month vs £43 for full sky on a dish.

Ill say it again, it was the football chairman who agreed it, so, rather than aiming your vitriol towards Sky it may well be better aimed elsewhere, but i can see you are very blinkered in your thinking towards this.. i very much doubt you complained when we got promoted and received all the cash though..
If you like football better now then fair do’s. Sky were the money men in modern television. They took advantage of the nations favourite sport by throwing money at it. They ruined it as a competition. In top of that they charge extortionate fees for their subscriptions. Totally unnecessary and fuelled by greed.

But now the group at the top are miles ahead Are you from Sky joining groups to beat the drum for em😂

Thanks bud. Assume Friday game on main sky channels? Will obviously access using my sky sports "subscription" 😉
It isn't on the main Sky Channels they are showing Blackburn v Derby. I am assuming if it is on the equivalent of red button so I can't record it (unless someone knows better). I have something more important on Friday, my Daughters wedding and was hoping to sit and watch the game at my leisure on Sst am. Dam you SKY.

Its on what was/is sky sports arena

SUTV package for all away games is £180/annum. Or, the increased price of £10/game. TBH that’s not bad when me, two sons and grandson can watch for £2:50 each. Anyone gone for it?

How have Sky ruined football? Genuine question. For me, the game itself is better in terms of quality, fitness, cultures, skill, grounds, pitches, training, rehab, player welfare, academy systems. Majority of that is down to the influx of TV money.

re subscriptions, its peoples choice whether to pay or not. Of course its greed, theyre a business, they have to make money for their shareholders. But as i said in an earlier thread, their subscription is the equivalent of buying 1 or no more than 2 home tickets for United home games each month. Benefit of the subscription is you get to see most games now (through the new deal) plus Premier league, plus all the other sports, plus entertainment...

Do you think United's ticket prices are fuelled by greed?

Sky Sports Arena is being replaced by the physical Sky Sports + channel. There will always be a game on there ie us V Preston tomorrow. It's just all the extra games that will be through the interactive part via that channel.

Its on the Sky Sports+ channel - formely the Sky Sports Action channel that has just had a rename. Its channel 412 on Sky boxes (different on Glass and Stream).

Never been convinced with the IPTV dodgy sticks. Some people swear by them so did try one out for a couple of days with a view to buying it and the quality was suspect. Random channels buffering every 30 seconds, channels not opening at all, then if it does work, at some point or another, you're "contact" ceases and they get shut down, utter shite.

It's true, when people say you get what you pay for.
Going on 2 years mine, never buffered once. I would wager that the buffering was down to your internet rather than the stick or apps
