Peak Sombre-ness?

Could really do with a dead cat on the table and maybe divert fans attentions with a big shirt sponsorship or even a kit launch…Trouble is, we’re running out of players model the bloody kit.

This is my opinion only, I'm not bothered about the Premier league, don't care if we stay up or go down, nothing changes either way, I still support united.

Pre season is quiet, but if you've been paying attention to the Prince, he's clearly said the club gets better value and better players later on in the window, so relax, shit is gonna happen at the end..

The 20m is as usual a statement to the selling clubs that we won't be overcharged (like in the old days of undisclosed fees received) we dont want another brewster size fee for a prospect..
Like last season, you mean.Having said that, I do agree wholeheartedly, with the last part of your sentence in para 2.
You need to stop paying attention to what the Prince says, and more attention to what he does!

Well my philosophy changed completely once we went up, and didn't get investors / new owners..

We must realise that a billionaire is needed for premier league football, we saw the results of a bargain basement squad last season..

This season will still be better than a prem season under the skint prince, no VAR for a start, so when we do score at least we can enjoy it.

Could it be? Could the Peak Sombreness of August 2023 be exceeded by a whole new level of peak sombreness (New Peak? Super Peak? Peak+?) as we begin pre-season with the weakest squad in the Championship? It's really going to hit hard the moment England's Euro journey ends (a weak distraction, but a distraction non-the-less).
I for one think we should just lap it up, smile as we're shat on and not have a car park protest or demonstration of any kind.
We are slap bang in the middle of the process that "should" make the future better, take a chill pill, have a pint and have a bit of patience.

If this was August, you'd have a strong point, or if the takeover was no longer happening too.

But right now we could be about to get owners who might be looking to bring some players in and run the club properly.

What good would kicking off do besides potentially pissing off the outgoing and incoming owners?

Key issue is the sheer amount of recruitment needed. It was already a tall order even if we began recruitment on day 1 of the transfer window. The idea we could still recruit well enough AND the players actually have a half decent pre-season is now looking laughable. Anyone know our relegation odds?

It's August now. 8 days until the season starts. We've made a handful of decent signings but still look extremely weak in a number of areas including GK, Defence (especially CB and RB), Attack (lacking both wingers and a clear partner for Moore . (Moore will be needing crosses from wide men). The squad can be accurately described as paper thin. Does anyone here think we'll get enough recruitment over the line in the next week to make a decent fist of this season?

Some do.

I don't.

Not by kick off at Preston - but by 31st August I think we’ll be in a much stronger position as Premier League teams will be ready to offload squad players by then & we seem to be able to offer competitive wages this season.

No it cant.
It's no where near as strong as we all would like. We have a fairly strong forward line. Our midfield ,providing we keep Hamer and Arblaster, is definitely competitive and probably as good as any in the championship. Defensively again whilst not being that strong we are capable of performing well enough in this division
We are weak in the keeper position that is true.
So to say' accurately described as paper thin ' is a misnomer.

The only proven forward at this level is Moore. (Brewster once upon a time was proven at this level, but has since very much unproven himself) so I certainly don't regard it as a fairly strong forward line. We don't really have a right back aside from an untried Irish kid? Should Moore or Robinson get injured we'll be exposed immediately in terms of the squads depth.

This is a relegation squad at present. At least when we had Hecky he knew the young ones to bring through. Now solution is to sell those for experienced sick notes...

It’s not a squad at the moment

It’s a youth side with about 6 team players tagging along . These players must be looking round bewildered as each day one after another one of the first team pros packs their bags and disappears never to be seen again or replaced

The preseason started slow. Had a sharp upturn around O'Hare and Moore, stalled around Burrows and then had an upward lift when he arrived. Now it's returned to its default coma state. No squad depth, gaping holes allover the starting 11, inactivity. It's far from reassuring.

The owners are slow to act, skint, at best inept, at worst unambitious and negligent.

It’s Deja vu to last summer! Clearly any takeover is either ‘hot air’ or dead in the water now. 5 years of Premier League money & what is our legacy from that right this minute in respect to squad depth, infrastructure etc?

Hoever will solve that.

We bought Berge and Brewster. For what? To be set back into financial ruin 5 years later. Makes chuff all sense.

Probably need to let them know how we feel from the stands then ... You can only stay silent for so long .... It's up to us!

Lucky for the fans the club has kept us from panicking like in an "Airplane" movie with all the updates on recruitment, ownership etc.

Realistically we're in dire need of a goalkeeper, a right back and two strikers. One week before the season starts.

It's like fucking groundhog day with this club.
