Marlon King?

His last conviction was in 2009. I accept he is currently on bail for two other offences, but innocent until proven guilty and all that. Would you deny a man with King's criminal record employment when he has no convictions for four years?

Yes, I would.

He was actually very good against Huddersfield, and if I remember right he scored both in the second half kicking towards the Kop. It did strike me as odd as a kid that he was getting loads of stick despite being the best player on the pitch that night by miles. But then, I wasn't wholly aware of his Pig Bastard past.

As an aside, this was my first night match, and from that day to this I always think BDTBL looks at it's best when the floodlights are on.

That's right. I remember one was a one on one with the keeper when he sold the keeper a fabulous dummy before going round him and slotting the ball in the net.

I can't recall much about the other one, but recall the one v Newport - also a night match (on a freezing cold night) at the Kop end and a header from about six inches out at the far post after a corner was flicked on to him.

Well, you don't have to employ him. Other people take a less unforgiving view.

Yes, they do. That is their right. I don't agree with them, but I respect them for it. Just finally, what kind of reaction do you feel he will get on Saturday?

As someone said, if he scores the winning goal, he will be a hero. If we lose and he plays crap he will get abuse for his criminal past.

If he scores 15 goals between now and Xmas and we are challenging for promotion by then, no-one will give a flying fuck about his past.

You might well be right. I'll say one thing though - I'm going to walk out on Saturday when he comes on. After that, I'll be back for the rest of the season - I'm not letting this scumbag ruin my Saturday afternoons. The XI fuckers in red and white have managed that on their own since August 2nd! But I shan't be up and celebrating any of his goals. But I feel I have to walk out, even if it just to prove a point.

If you want to protest, might I suggest that a better way would be to write to the club setting our your concerns. It would be interestinmg to see what reply you get.

I sent them an email yesterday afternoon @ 4pm. I am still awaiting a response.

Maybe we need to stop investing young men whose only apparent talent is being able to do skilful things with a ball which such haloes? I would never have dreamt of telling my kids that footballers were Gods and beacons of moraity to be looked up to. Maybe other parents should take a similar attitude.

It is possible to admire someone for what they do well without thinking that they are amazing in every aspect of their lives. I think Philip Larkin was a fantastic poet. He was also a misoygynistic, racist bastard. The latter facts about him do not detract in any way from his status as a poet or my enjoyment of his poetry.
Indeed he was Dazzler , but then again so was Seamus heaney [ a great poet } , but without the apparent baggage , and a nobel prize winner to boot .

Racy you have a point, but I don't play for Sheffield united

I'm also a hypocrite as I'd take ched when he's released.

I think the difference with Ched Evans is/was there is sufficient doubt/concen over his conviction. If he was such a twat why has his girlfriend stood by him considering the offence?

King just seems a professional thug with a particular like for injuring people and comitting offences involving cars.

If Ched comes back and King is still here will we be the first club to have two players on the sex offenders register?

Many more will walk out if he doesn't come on and we persist with the shit forward line we have.

The fact is Dazzler we didn't NEED to sign him in the 1st place, it's not like he's the only one left in the shop. As I said several pages ago, this is just unwanted baggage we don't need at this moment in time.

If he starts, will you go in and walk out at 3pm or just not bother going in at all once you've heard the team news at 2:15pm?

Couldn't disagree more. We did need to sign him and whilst he might not have been the last one in the shop, there was nothing left apart from what was on the 'reduced to clear' shelf.

He got 3

7/9/82: Huddersfield H (2) W2-0
1/3/83: Newport (H) (1) W2-0
thought he scored v southend away cause he smashed the ball towards the goal , from the opposite end of the box to were I was standing , must have hit someone on the way in { still a prick mind}, bow to your greater knowledge Dazzler , and stand rightly corrected young man , {tips forelock }.:)

I shall go in, take my seat, and once the match kicks off, out I go once King is on the pitch. If that is at 3.01, so be it. If it means at 4.35 if he comes off the bench, that's what I shall do. But no, I will go the lane regardless of whether he is in the starting XI or not.

Not sure which team you have been watching this season Jimmy?

Curran only played once against Southend A - on 26/3/83. We lost 1-3 and our goal was a Morris pen, so your memory is playing tricks on you :-)

Darren, I'd forgotten you were a lawyer.

My postings way back on page 3 or 4 were broadly agin SUFC employing King.

This was purely on the basis that I felt, given that I had heard he had been arrested recently, that it wasn't unlikely that he would be incarcerated again soon and therefore would leave us in the lurch like the imprisonment of Evans had two seasons ago.

It seemed like a forthcoming deja-vu and it surprised me that United would lay themselves open to being let down in the same way a second time.

You probably don't know enough about the cases or it may be unprofessional for you to comment but do you think this is a potentially serious issue?

Will you walk back in again if he starts the game and is subbed off at 4:15???

Well he doesn't appear to have been charged at the moment and, if he is charged, I doubt the cases will be resolved before May next year. So I think we are fairly safe.

The bottom line to all of this is that, Marlon King doesn't care, David Weir doesn't care and probably most importantly SUFC don't care. If any one of those 3 parties did care about what King knockers think, he would't have signed or have been signed.

One thing is for sure, if King scores a last minute winner on saturday, we will ALL be cheering.

I agree. He's signed now. Nothing fans say or do is going to change that.
I'm buggered if I'm staying away and I hope he plays well and scores.
If he did, I wouldn't feel too thrilled about being amongst a crowd of Blades singing King's name either.

One way of registering a protest whilst still supporting the team would be to chant the name of whoever provides the assist instead.
That way maybe he'll get to understand the utter disdain the average man in the street/crowd has for him.
Who knows, a full season of being ritually ignored might have more effect on his outlook than fines, community service and prison apparently have.

Good, we can all look forward to the "Blades Star Jailed" headlines next Summer then...

I'm disappointed with United. Mainly because this comes at a time when the fan base is already disappoimted and divided. Doubtless some will jeer at King on saturday, there will be arguments etc etc and some will stay away. When what we need is togetherness to build confidence.

We get so excited on here creating in my view a senseless polemic about Hoofball v Pass and lose but I think playing the right way is much more about how the club behaves generally. For example, I deplore instructing ball boys to timewaste, players deliberately cheating, diving etc. I'm sure it doesn't help in the long run and sets a bad example to kids. Someone else could have given King his next chance.

But at three on Saturday I'll be behind the team hoping King is successful enough to get us out of this mess. I wish at least he'd say sorry publicly thouigh for being a knob, that would help a bit

And that will achieve .......what? Anyone who may happen to see you get up and walk up the gangway will just think that you have got a weak bladder...
