What are people's thoughts on what we can achieve this year?

As a team coming down from the Prem, the stereotype is often that a club spends big with the parachute money to get back up, with that often being successful. But considering the tight finances (at present - perhaps subject to change with the takeover), and the high player turnover, is that entirely viable this season? Yes we've made smart signings so far, but will that be enough, both during this season, and a hypothetical follow up year back in the PL?

Hi Stegosaurus here.,

I reckon it has to be avoid relegation the way things are going. The club in dead lumber, our best players leaving in droves. It's gonna be a tough season. We need to get rid of Wilder for starters and get some fresh blood in. He's useless. I could definitely see Wednesday finishing ahead of us this season they have all the foundations ready including a top manager for a big push towards the playoffs.

You used to be mildly amusing, but alas, no longer.

We are not the stereo type of club . Most clubs spend big when they GET promoted we did the opposite .

Without a takeover, the aims are to lower the wage bill, not get dragged into a relegation scrap and give game time to the youngsters. If the takeover happens (lol) and they've got money (LOL) then we should aim higher.

How come you are blaming wilder for the mess the club is in ? We are lucky we have him can not think many managers would put up with crap he has had to deal with . Also can not think of anyone better who could have a total rebuild of the squad with just a tenner in his pocket , If you want to blame anyone look at bit higher up the ladder mate .

He’s a pig on the wind up.

People just need to ignore him.

Without takeover, establish a side able to compete and not get dragged into a relegation fight, rebuild and bed in the young guns.
With takeover, depending on how fruitful but realistically if we have cash then at least top 6 if not top 2. If we are sticking with Wilder, he has done it before (got out of the Championship) so can't see why we can't again.

I'd be happy with top 10 i think we need to try and build a squad first and momentum second im in no rush to get bettered every week in the land of milk and honey. That said i always want Blades to win every game so i can't have it both ways. Cheeky flirt with the playoffs tail off top 10 personally I'd take that right now

Without takeover: stay up, find a buyer.

With takeover: get some reassurances about the direction of travel for the club. Embed the youth, rebuild the squad, recognise that this is likely a 2-3 transfer windows job, as opposed to promotion at the first time of asking. Build a style of play, recruit some leaders on the pitch, start to build a familiarity and connection between the fans and the new players, we've lost a considerable number of stalwarts in a very short space of time and the togetherness, stability, competitiveness and consistency that they provided for so long.

I think there’s several things that need to be in place before we even think about promotion from this league to give us a fighting chance of staying up

1. new owners that are willing to spend and invest by giving us a proper budget to compete with at least mid table teams

2. Training facilities the new HSBC training centre has to be complete and up an running gives us a chance of attracting better players and hopefully better facilities means less injuries with a proper Re-Hab centre for recovery of players

3. Cat 1 academy better youth brought through without such as city and other big clubs been able to pinch them off us, Cat 1 academy I believe has to have a certain amount of funding each year invested into it and it has to have a certain pedigree of coaches with correct coaching badges this would improve already a good academy into an even better one

I think think/believe with these things in place it would at least give us a fighting chance of staying up wishfull thinking but not completely impossible

Yeah I think you're right. We are gonna sink uncontrollably into the deepest darkest abyss..ever... while Wendy will strive forward conquering anything & anybody in their path into oblivion... its so obvious that it is time to retake their rightful place not only in the top 3-4 clubs of the Premier league also CL is but a couple of years away.
There, has that made you feel better or do you feel I'm just stating the truth...
Deluded fckn knobjockey, do us all a favour and jog on we don't like you or your fckn joke club.

Steggo is a known Wednesday fan on the wind up trying to get people to respond....just ignore him and maybe he'll go away.
If it was Owlstalk he'd be banned....but our forum correctly allows free speech and wind up merchants.

The Championship is shit.

Last seasons squad of underperforming whimps finish top 6. Easy.

Yes, this season could be a transitional one for the club.

But we will still trouble top 6 and be nowhere near relegation fodder.

That’s my prediction.

UTB

I’m trying to be less pragmatic because I’ve underestimated competition before, however, you have a point DronnieBlade our team does actually contain 2 of the best midfielders and statistically 2 of the best defenders in the championship from last time out, supported by some experience and really exciting young talent that have played premier league minutes (Moore, Robinson, Arblaster, Brooks, Osula). The only issue is strength in depth and out wide, a few injuries a we’re in a tangle.

I'm hoping for mid table mediocrity. Given last season, I'm.not sure I'm ready for another PL season...

My hope for this season is to build and show promise, think we'll either sneak into or just miss out on the play-offs, probably miss out.

Don't think there's an expectation or pressure to be promoted this season. Wouldn't mind us being in the play-offs because part of me would
prefer us to lose.....so there won't be the same pressure as previous play-offs.

Would be so typical of United to finally win a play-off when we're the least prepared with half the fan base preferring us NOT to be promoted.

My focus is more on the 25/26 season where I do expect a serious promotion push.

I think the utter disaster of last season has recalibrate my feelings about football in general. Being completely outclassed virtually every game and losing heavily just about every other game was awful. If that's the PL, then I prefer knocking around the 2nd tier, being competitive and winning a few games.

Obviously, if we could repeat 19-20, that would be great. Can't see.much chance of that.
