The fact nobody else realises he's a steal suggests he's not. Scounting networks are extensive and every single top 40 club in this country knows about this boy and his potential. He's not undiscovered. That's not to say he won't be a brilliant keeper but thay Plymouth will get what's he's worthFor what it's worth I think you're right. I don't think we'll sign him today. Really good keepers are few and far between and I'm surprised he's not attracting more interest, especially given he's English as well. He'd be an absolute bargain for the figure we'd likely get him for.
Until this week I thought we'd got no chance with this lad but given we pushed the boat out for O'Hare I'm thinking maybe it's possible. For me it'll depend if we can get him before anyone else realises he's a steal.
However, I do hope we're both wrong and he does sign today.
I will take a guess that he'll go elsewhere for under £3m and then by next summer he'll be attracting premier league interest for 5 times that. I'd say right now he's probably worth more than £3m but given his contract situation nobody will pay what he's actually worth. The fact nobody else realises he's a steal suggests he's not. Des Taylor has two lists - wilder (cheapo) and Taylor the legend (expensive) listI’m not sure we’d know Cooper is the new boards choice when we no one knows who the new board is?

We sign Cooper and in three years time he’ll be worth £30M
Rooney says, unless somebody stumps up an offer they can't turn down, Cooper's here next season.Reminds me of the "we sign Brewster for £25M and in 3 years time he's almost guaranteed to be worth £60M".
"For once in your life Sheff Utd need to show some ambition, pay Liverpool the £25 million asking price before Palace nip in for him
and pay Brewster what ever he wants".
Saw the above type of comment several times when we were trying to buy Brewster, look how that turned out.
Loads replied there's no chance we'll buy Brewster because they said the Prince was tight and they said Sheff Utd always lack ambition.
However agree that Cooper does seem a no brainer of a buy, especially as we're lacking in the goalie department.
He would say that wouldn't he. He's not going to say if someone offers a million then he's off.Rooney says, unless somebody stumps up an offer they can't turn down, Cooper's here next season.
We’ve said much the same down the years in fact most summers I can remember.Rooney says, unless somebody stumps up an offer they can't turn down, Cooper's here next season.
Reminds me of the "we sign Brewster for £25M and in 3 years time he's almost guaranteed to be worth £60M".

Also what's an offer they can't turn down? Obviously with him being in his final year thye may feel that they can't refuse a reasonably low offer rather than him go on a free. It's similar to us with Bogle isn't it. I don't want to lose him for £4m but the people making the decisions might think that's better than losing him for nothing. We’ve said much the same down the years in fact most summers I can remember.

Yep that’s normally where clubs end up in September justifying a lower than expected fee for a player that they’d ultimately rather not have lost. Ndiaye is a terrific example. Also what's an offer they can't turn down? Without stating the obvious. Isn't that how the transfer market works?Rooney says, unless somebody stumps up an offer they can't turn down, Cooper's here next season.
I'm just considering what that figure may be though. Obviously nobody knows for sure but his actual value isn't really as relevant in these situations. When the amount offered is greater than the value they think Cooper adds this season.

OR, he's just a good shot-stopper who's only really proven himself at L1 level, is coming back from a serious injury, but who has potential. We sign Cooper and in three years time he’ll be worth £30M

Not disagreeing with you whatsoever but what I believe he is 'worth' to Plymouth, what you believe and what Plymouth as a club believe may be totally different figures and Rooney saying they'll only sell him for silly money means nothing if they need cash.I'm not talking about what a player's market value would be in a perfect world where they're contracted until 2029 - I am talking about what he is worth to Plymouth for 24/25. For their purposes, this would be working out the difference in expected revenue in the Championship and League 1 in 25/26, estimating the percentage of the time they stay up with Cooper in the squad as opposed to being relegated if he isn't, and multiplying the two together. Selling for less than that figure out of desperation and wanting to reduce variance (which, as you mentioned Ndiaye, is exactly what we did in his case) directly loses money.

Depends if they want him to go for nothing in a year’s time.Let's get one thing straight, there is no way Plymouth are selling him for 3m. He's an in demand, young, British keeper and will cost at least double that plus add ons etc
