Oreit muckers.
just wondered where Blades were planning on boozin in Rov-ram on Sat-di. After growin up in Raw-mish in Rov-ram I can offer some advice. Stay the fook away! Get the train in (presuming you're having a drink) or drive. Get there as late as possible and get the fook out of the shithole that is Rotherham town centre as quick as poss after the match.
However I am meeting a special guest on Sat-di, so I must brave mi sen n head art in Toy town. Olle n Pappa Luigi have gorra date wi Prince Albert.
It's 10 years since I went boozin in Rov-ram town centre, but I doubt much has changed since then. I can certainly recollect the pubs not to go in and will not be chancing that they have got any better. In the late 90's, when I first started boozing, there used to be some decent ale houses in the town centre. I remember supping decent ale in the Charters, Effingham Arms, Tut and Shive etc on a regular basis. Unfortunately these ale houses closed down in the land that time forgot and left shit, horrible boozers, serving crap ale. On the few occassions I went back to Rov-ram the Bluecoat (a Weatherspoons' pub - converted from a - rough as fuck - nighclub) was the only place serving decent ale, apart from a couple of old men's pubs on Wellgate.
In search of inspiration as to where to go on Sat-di I had a look in mi real guide. It just has the Bluecoat and the Bridge Inn. The latter is a new-ish entry (having changed hands recently) and it appears they are making a bit of an effort. They tend to have a few guest ales (and ciders) on. I haven't been in since it was Nellie Dean's (in the early naughties) but it looks a decent place. Only problem is it is not far from ground and with 12k expected I reckon it might be busy. Looking on Rotherham Camra's wesbite there are a few other options. There's the Corn Rhymber, which is a Weatherspoon's pub. There are a couple of pubs up on Wellgate (the old man pubs I talked about) which serve real ale too. They are on the other side of town to the ground (but still less than 20 mins walk) so might be a bit less busy.
Just wondered what people on here where doing? I think the best options are:
- 1) one of the Spoon's (or both - as they are close to each other)
- 2) the Bridge Inn
- 3) Bit of a crawl, starting in Wellgate (Mail Coach and Hare and Hounds), calling it at one (or both) of the Spoon's pubs and (possibly) even a last stop at the Bridge Inn. This basically moves in the direction of the ground, taking in all the best ale houses.
I am tending towards option 3 at the moment, but could be swayed. If anyone off here fancies a couple in one of the Weatherspoon's for example, then I would be happy to meet up.
