CONFIRMED Points deduction to start next season

We are guilty (as was Forest who delayed but still paid up late) therefore we take the punishment of 2 points
I don't think Forest paid late, they sold Johnson later than expected, so they were outside of the loss allowance before they sold him due to spending.

It's like spending £30 before you sell something for £50. In theory you're going to make £20, but until that sale happens you've lost £30. That's Forest's argument about their points deduction. Ultimatelt they bought before they sold. Tough shit. The rules are the rules. Don't spend what you haven't got. They argued that they sold Johnson later in order to receive a much higher fee for him. It's not the delayed sale of Johnson that breached FFP, it's the money they spent that breached them.

I'm stoic about the deduction, shit news but hardly crippling. I'm more bothered about the financial schecanery by other clubs which doesn't merit sanctions. Not another PL is corrupt post but it is, all fans know it is and EFLwise trying to expose some of the nefarious financial shite going on shouldn't be blamed.

If we tried, failed and accepted we did the same at a lower level of competence so be it. If the 2 points cost us either promotion or relegation then get angry. Otherwise there's much worse corruption in plain sight which we should be angrier about.

The money was paid to the Prince, as you know, so that’s where any liability would likely lie. Not the FC. Still an issue regarding his funding of us/wanting his loans back but as usual you put it on the club.
The accounts state repayment could fall on the club. Even if they didn't a potless prince would still need to get the dosh from somewhere as you mention.

We seem to be the only club to have received a points deduction for delayed payment of monies due for a players transfer. I cannot believe we are the only club to have ever been responsible for this. Something stinks
I'd be surprised if more clubs didn't start getting charged for doing this, spreading transfer costs over a period of time is something multiple clubs do.

This is what Nixon posted, apologies if the tweet has already been posted and I've missed it.

Who the hell this Player C is and how we owe them £143,546.28 is bizarre and surely that has to be down to wages, if those figures are completely accurate.

Someone has suggested Khadra?
No idea if correct obviously

Clearly not just one payment either, and whilst not wildly exorbitant by modern standards, not insignificant amounts either.

He'd have sold our players if anyone had put the money up. He'd as good as sold Berge til the buyer pulled out.

This romantic notion that the Prince gambled the house and won is a load of bollocks.
Aye, Berge and Ndiaye weren’t saleable at all.

And people actually liked your post! 😂

I think what's getting overlooked in the whole thing the most is that Liverpool, Brighton, Malmo, Newcastle and Club Brugge are all dirty grasses 😄

Most pointless deduction ever, were stopping up so it will never kick in
😂😂 In all seriousness though these punishments and points deductions take way too long to sort out, mainly referring to Forest and Everton.

It's alright saying its only 2 points yada yada. It's enough to make us look like the shitshow that we are and it WILL come into the minds of players in the summer thinking which club to join or rejoin.
2 points can easily be the difference between automatics and play offs and for us that means between going up and not.

Take two off Leeds or Ipswich and see how their season looks.

It’s terrible the scenario was allowed to develop in such a fashion.

I don’t get why, until contracts were signed and sealed, that you’d effectively stop funding a business or which you are the owner.

According to BBC site, we have to pay EFL legal fees of £310,000 too

Only skim read Independent Commissions (IC) written reasons. My comments as follows;

1. The club have been aware of this since March 2023.
2. The club defaulted on transfer/loan payments to other clubs over a period of 600 days(1.65 years). The EFL considered this conduct was sufficiently serious to justify further sanctioning the club( in addition to the transfer embargo) under their rules and referred the matter to a disciplinary committee who appointed an IC.
3. The payment defaults related to 5 player transactions totalling £8.2 million.
3. Throughout 2023 both parties made submissions to the IC culminating in a hearing in January 2024. Nick De Marco KC represented the Club. The KC currently acting for Florist.
4. The IC found in favour of the EFL in February 2024 who had requested points deductions and a fine.
5. In March 2024 a compromise sanction was agreed at 2 points deducted plus 2 deferred for further breaches in the next full EFL season.
6. SUFC agreed there would no appeal.
6. Costs were awarded against SUFC totalling for £310,000 for the EFL plus the IC's costs.

Clearly defaulting on transfer payments over nearly two years has led to this state of affairs and the EFL felt obliged to push for further sanctions because the club was continually in breach of EFL payment rules. This drives a coach and horses through PA's response to Sheffield United Way that the embargo only related to around £1 million and lasted only a few months. 5 player transactions and £8 million in fees defaulted on suggests it certainly wasn't the picture being painted. That explains why consideration was given not to Appeal and get the best compromise avoiding a fine. The term I believe is "bang to rights"

The cost to the club in defending this action exceeds the £310,00 quoted. Add in the IC's costs and Mick De Marco who doesn't come cheap and you are looking at north of double that amount.

A sorry state of affairs imo. Not only has the clubs reputation been sullied but they now face stricter limitations on any future default with the potential for automatic additional point deductions. Will this affect future transfer dealings one can only speculate but it may lead to requests for more money up front. It also has the potential for any rival we do future business with running to the EFL to get the additional points applied should there be any semblance of delay in making payments.

The Clubs statement that they were waiting for payments from other clubs doesn't hold water imo. The EFL rules set out a clear process whereby SUFC could have invoked disciplinary proceedings via the EFL against said clubs for late payment within pre determined time scales. That doesn't seemed to have happened here.

It’s 4 points though. 2 at the start and a further 2 at the end of the first season back in the EFL.

Only read the judgment quickly but can't see any reference to us waiting for payments from other clubs?

Having added all the costs up (roughly) it looks something like this.
Just under £6 million (divided between 3 clubs)
Around 2.9 million EUROS ( divided between 2 clubs)

Not massive amounts of money in a footballing sense and should be paid off with some ease.

Best case scenario is we pay it all in the summer and it shaves money out of whatever transfer budget we have for next season. Worst case scenario is we don't pay it and run the risk of further points deductions or perhaps another transfer embargo.

Not ideal but the situation could be a lot worse.

Well if players like McBurnie, Egan, Jebbo and Baldock were in two minds about signing on or not for next season this news will probably have made their minds up for them,

see ya guys.
