Recruitment team have been shit since signing of John Egan. Only other decent signing was Didsy but think he was just offered to us by Mick McCarthy as Ipswich weren’t going to offer him a new contract. Norwood was great signing at the time but he cost £2mill. Prior to that they had done well. JOC was a steal from Brentford, Duffy, Leon, Fleck, Baldock, Stevens even Lundstum but how many came from them or from CW’s ideas we don’t know.
However since our first season back in the PL there have been no gems but simply a succession of players who were already on every clubs radar and who we grossly overpaid for . McB, Brewster, maybe Berge, and most of the new recruits this season. Only exception to that might be Anel but he has not performed this season and I think was based on Jack Lester knowing him from Forest and having kept in touch. Compared to many other clubs who seem to be able to unearth decent players at bargain prices. Classic example is Luton and Brighton but Coventry and Ipswich seem to have done pretty well.
Having made a complete bollocks by not recruiting from abroad previously, this season they have gone overboard with recruiting foreign players but with apparently the same result - overpaying for players on everyone’s radar and not unearthing any gems. Only gem this season seems to be Brooks and he came through the academy.
We really do need to improve and there are huge question marks over the current team headed by Paul Mitchell as I understand it.
