Keith Stroud take a bow

That game could have had zero bookings. The only one for me is Maguires penalty. Last man, straight red card.

There is no such thing as a 'last man' rule,Matt...it is something like 'a clear goalscoring opportunity' which it clearly wasn't re Maguire and why Long didn't get sent off at Donny or on Tuesday

Can you go into this further?? do you think maguire's challenge was a pen for them???

my bother in law was on the BLUT...said Harry did his usual re holding players only this time he got caught. Said deffo penalty

The ref had a nightmare, but Harry's first yellow and McMahon's were correct and they still protested. McMahon can be very dirty at times and I'm generally amazed referees put up with his foolish protests following obvious fouls.

Harry seemed overly aggressive all game. For the penalty he won the header allright, but as he came down from his jump he kept his arm over the Brentford player and looked to hold him back a little, which prevented him from challenging Long. Soft, maybe, but technically, not wrong.

It's good that Morgan gets the players fired up, but they also need to keep their cool at key situations.

Agreed. It was a penalty. But there is no way in the world it was a booking...

1st half hour i knew this referee was bad & on a par to darren deadman levels of incompetence. as he was blind as a bat. then someone told me it was keith stroud & it all made sense how on earth does this guy still have a career, are we that desperate for referees in the football league

Refereeing standards at this level are disappointing.

Stroud has been culpable for years imho but there's no one better apparently.

After relegation I did think I'd appreciate no VAR but for weeks I don't feel it.

I'd genuinely take VAR back at this level tomorrow.

Nah mate. I'm all in for jumping up and celebrating a goal when it goes in, not hanging around for 3 or 4 minutes twiddling my thumbs until some twat in a studio at the other side of the country has done checking the thickness of the leather on the goalscorer's boot.

I wouldn't, even with the dodgy decisions it's still much better without var

To be honest, it was simply a performance on par with how many on here predicted it would be.

I actually thought he did ok.
Got the bookings right, tried to let the game flow. He did blow for a free kick a bit early in the 2nd half when he could have let play go on when we were on the edge of their box.
Not sure if he got the pen shout right or their "HANDBALL" one correct because I haven't seen any replays, but judging by the lack of moaning about both incidents on here and Stoke's fourm he did. The Osborn one which had the kop moaning on the South stand side was correct no foul it was just Osborn being crap. The one where their defender seem to foul their goalkeeper i think Sharp may have pushed their defender into their keeper especially given Sharp never complained about the decision.

Whilst it wasn't stonewall, on further viewing the push in the back on N'Diaye was more of a penalty than the one we conceded last week. Debatable the element of contact but there wasn't any question on it's positioning.

Unfortunately Keith, as much as you think you let the game flow, you blew up for a free-kick to us when we had a clear advantage on more than one occasion.

He’s a terrible referee and never really lets the game flow (aside from a period yesterday just before half time), but I don’t think he got too much major stuff wrong this time. The Ndiaye one was just a case of being outmuscled for me, and for the foul he gave on their keeper, Sharp nudged their player into him, so it was just about fair enough.

The frustrating thing with that one was that he seemed to be letting play continue, then changed his mind a split second later. As we’re hopeless at set pieces, that was the chance gone.

We wondered if refs ever apologise to players, as in that case, along the lines of “sorry lads, my mistake, I blew too quick”, amateur refs used to, or whether that would be an admission of weakness.

Sorry I only remember the one which I pointed out.
I did let play go on in another incident in the centre of the pitch only to bring it back for the foul when your player lost the ball.

He wasn’t great but seen far worse over the years. However one thing he got absolutely spot on was refusing to stop the game when their player went down on the edge of our box just before the second goal. Sitting in the Westfield, I was able to keep an eye on him as we went on the attack which led to Didzy’s goal, and despite being in massive pain he still managed to watch from his prone position as the goal went in, then he slowly turned around and resumed his ‘injured’ pose. You could sense him thinking oh shit, maybe I should have just got up and helped us defend, but of course he had to go through the motions of pretending to recover with the help of the physio.

Pretty sure the Stoke manager wasn’t too impressed when he managed to hobble back to halfway, and then made his miraclulous recovery as he stepped back onto the playing area. A shitthousing failure of the highest order.

The ref did actually come over to check on him after the celebrations, hopefully he said something along the lines of ‘serves you right you cheating twat, do you think I was born yesterday’.

At least Keith is consistent. Consistently crap. Keith refereeing championship games is a sad enditement on the standard of refereeing in the country in general. 1 ref giving a pen against us last week that was 2 yards outside the box. I watched QUEST last night and Cov and Peterborough both had stonewallers not given. The standard is appalling the worst its been in many years

I am not sure what everyone is expecting.
Why should the referees be expected to be of a better standard than the players in the Championship ?
Most do a decent job, but make mistakes. With the benefit of replays we can see those errors, but in real time on the pitch it is not so easy.
I think the standard of refereeeing is slightly better than the overall standard of the football.
I could add that they are paid only a fraction of what most of the players are.

…..so Ndiaye got outmuscled even though it was a blatant push but Sharp gives their player a little nudge hence a foul and that’s fair? Have a little think about that for 2 minutes. 🤔😁

Maybe I haven’t seen the right angle of the Ndiaye one, but I didn’t see a shove, looked like they just ran into each other to me. I’ll have another look

The moral of the story is, if you want to stop the game, hold your head not your leg, having said that, Stokes manager appears to be a decent and fair guy
