From another thread I stated that I would be more inclined to purchase a training top if it was made by Nike/Adidas than that of Macron.

I've tried to pick out like for like items from Leyton Orient (Nike) and Swindon (Adidas) to us.

Images are below.

Picture the blades badge instead of the others, would you purchase the Nike, Adidas, Macron or nothing?

Can you add an option for anything BUT Macron....?

Linz, have you heard any whispers regarding the kit supplier for next season?

Even though I've heard Nike have quite an aggressive policy of steaming into clubs and demanding they run the club shop rather than the club thereselves, you've got to admit, some of their kit templates scream out classic United kits of the 70's

With all due respect the poll doesn't address the question we were discussing which was effectively: would you be more likely to by a Nike item than a Macron item if the former was, say, £5 more expensive.

Time for another poll :-)

I haven't been in the club shop for a couple of years, but the last time I was in there it was full of overpriced, gaudy polyester shit with the obligatory Blades badge stuck on it, so I walked out empty handed.

I don't expect much has changed in the intervening period, especially with Macron as our suppliers.

Whoever it is, it wont be based on brand, but on how much money the club can make.

Macron offered the best return. Companies such as Nike and Adidas give the lowest returns hence .........................

I think its time someone mocked up a PSV shirt.

If we could do recurring pointless threads this one would he at the top. A load of spoiled kids moaning because the kit isnt their favourite brand. Buy it, don't buy it. It will probably be made in an indonesian child labour sweat shop whatever the brand.

I'd buy Adidas, but it's not so much about the brand, but the range.

Le coq sportif did some excellent stuff. The training tops were fantastic and I wish I'd bought a couple and save one as my other is getting a bit tatty now.

Macron do decent shirts, decent socks but that's it. The last few suppliers have all struggled with decent polo shirts. They either shrink on first wash or they are much wider than they are long and never shrink to fit!

Personally I think that apart from the shirts the rest of the range is awful. Shame really as I often pop in to spend money but end up coming away empty handed.

If you feel that way, why even bother replying.

The point of a forum is to discuss things. If something open for discussion doesn't interest me, i close the thread and move to the next.

I don't slag people off calling them "spoilt kids" if I don't agree with what they are discussing.

I really care to talk about The Smiths or Led Zeppelin as many people do. I don't post on their thread slagging them off for showing an interest in their music.

I thought the thread was a good way of carrying out a bit of market research, a bit of fun. The results so far show that people don't care much for Macron. Did you know that this morning?

I think it does. Look at the results.

I would personally prefer to spend the extra £5 or £10 and get a Nike polo. It's not even about the little swoosh. It's the design and the feel.

I don't mind Macrons kits. I hate their leisurewear and have never purchased any. In fact, the last leisurewear i purchased of SUFC's was Avec.

I am probably not the best person to discuss this as I wouldn't buy sports leisure wear if it was made by Nike, Macron or hand crafted by large breasted maidens in the Amazon jungle

I still think your poll is a bit unclear. Some people might take it to mean would they buy Nike over Macron other things (like the price) being equal. I think you need to make it clear the price isn't equal :-)

The point i'm trying to make is that I feel the club would sell more merchandise if it had Nike or Adidas as the manufacturer than it would if it had Macron.

Clearly SUFC prefer to sell Macron products and make 35-40% GP rather than say 20% GP on Nike products.

e.g. 250 items are sold at £1 each of Macron giving a GP of around £166
600 Nike items would need to be sold at £1 each to get around £150 GP (at 20%).

My personal feeling is that they would probably do that. (Basically selling 40% more items).

This is just pulling numbers out of my head and I don't know the true figures etc.

I'd be interested to know what the difference in GP really is

I see Macron has made a cracking start!

Personally I think this season's kit is their best work, however I voted for Adidas (even if it cost £10-15 more)

Exactly, if the club make an extra £25,000 by having Macron then I'm happy to stick with Macron.

Haven't the piggies had issues with Puma? Think they needed extra shirts to re-stock the shop but the minimum order was way more than they expected to sell so they couldn't go ahead.

The bigger issue for me is the shocking quality of the non-Macron stuff - I very rarely see anything I'd want to buy in the shop even when I've gone in to spend a few quid. Even things like the mugs etc are nowhere near as good as they used to be.

I'm also disappointed we've stopped producing season review DVDs, I used to buy them religiously even for terrible seasons. Have we had one since 06/07? Surely they aren't too expensive to put together?

I always think Adidas stuff (tshirts, polos) are a bit better than Nike in terms of quality. With regard to football shirts I have an AC Milan shirt from a couple of seasons ago and the stripes are coloured material rather than a Macron SUFC shirt which has red stripes printed on white. The first away shirt Macron did (the white one with red bits) was a nice quality item.

Exactly this. We've bought it for the kids for years - it's all over priced guff but we know the score.

Go with the option that gives the best deal for the club - making them the most money so that ticket prices can be kept down for those on a budget.

My lads really miss these. And they really loved SUFC club manager.

Then there is an important option missing from your poll. The "I will buy it whatever the make/price".

There are only 3 categories of supporter in this. 1. Will buy no matter what, 2 Will NOT buy no matter what and 3. Will buy if the quality/price is right.
The poll needs doing BY THE CLUB for category 3 only. That way they can determine what the potential difference is and act accordingly (they won't of course because it's too much effort).

We just need to ask Living In a Fantasy World for #1 as that is the only user to choose Macron. #2 is the bottom option (neither)

You ought to be running the show at the lane, you dont know and you are pulling numbers out of your head. I wonder if you are on the radar of our great leader to run merchandising.

Go present your ideas at the lane and i promise ill make a special trip down to clean the piss off tue floor.

I might by something made by Umbro, the last shirt I got was the ST give away with all the names on it no interest at all in spending cash on the other old Macron rags.

I'd keep Macron rather than have a generic Adidas or Nike design.

Macron have made 4 home kits for the Blades and each one has looked good, and they away kits have generally looked good as well. I like the gear they produce for the Blades and happy to keep them meaning we don't go down the route of having identikit kits with other clubs.

not bothered really as i'm not a shirter.. however i do prefer Adidas stuff.. won't touch Nike, so it would be cool to buy some leisurewear that was blades related. i don't reckon there is much wrong with the Macron kits per se. the leisurewear though isn't as good as the bigger brands IMHO
