Given the terms he left on, and his sizeable chip I can't see this ever happening.
Which I'm actually quite pleased about.

I'd concede he'd be a decent choice till the end of the season but then he would be impossible to remove from his seat due to fan pressure and he isn't the right manager to take us forward long term.
 



I can't see Warnock as a DoF he'd want to interfere too much and then blame the manager when it went wrong, while taking the credit when the team was doing well.

^^^^ Oh yes. I rate Warnock as a manager, but his strengths aren't exactly what a DoF requires. They're the polar opposite. Not to mention his weaknesses. :)
 
He didn't actually rule out the managers job in the interview but he did say he is considering every option that comes his way. Apparently he always planned with McCabe to end his career at Sheffield United and thought it would be with him moving upstairs to create the link between the manager and the director.

IF Morgan does get us up then i guess it will be hard to not give him his chance rightly or wrongly. Having Warnock in as an advisory would make sense to help him out but practicality wise with history it would be an interesting one.

EDIT: I take my post back, he's touting for a part time job and would take something over Morgs at United. But I still think we need someone till the end of the season, while we make a long term plan for where United are going, and who's the man to get us there. That has to be a high level decision and a brutally frank one without fan interference. Are we aiming for Championship football and promotion to the PL, or are we aiming for promotion this season and treading water around the Championship until some "debts" are paid?

Easy to say Grump, but when we were in the Championship selling players and seemingly no going for automatic promotion there were plenty of grumbles.

There was grumbles and whilst we've had better times than now we've also watched some shit in the championship.

Shit in the championship seems easier to live with than shit in D3.
 
I like what you've done, and I'd agree partially.
I'd rather watch last seasons football than Blackwells Championship playoff guff.

That story gets more and more exaggerated every time I hear it. I've read his book and I certainly don't remember him saying he "couldn't concentrate on getting the team right". Does anybody seriously think we got relegated because of an article in one newspaper about Warnock's contract? What did the newspaper article actually say? Did Warnock write it or was he just responding to a question from a journalist?

I've not been able to find THAT article anywhere but I did find this:-

" 2nd April Neil Warnock is refusing to think about his own future while Sheffield United are battling for Premiership survival. Warnock's current deal expires in the summer but reports indicated ahead of Saturday's 1-0 defeat to Bolton that he was ready to sign a new long-term contract. Blades chairman Kevin McCabe confirmed at the weekend that he had held some negotiations with Warnock about a new contract. But Warnock has insisted any talks will be put on hold until after Sheffield United's Premiership fate has been decided. "I don't know where it (the speculation) has come from," he said. "This is not the time for me to be finalising the details of the contract. Yes, I have chatted to Kevin McCabe vaguely about the issue but nothing will be decided until we know what division we will be in next year. "We spoke about things, but nothing like what I've read in the papers, especially the figures mentioned. "We are always talking because we have the same ambitions, but we have the overall picture of Sheffield United to consider." United's loss at The Reebok Stadium, coupled with Charlton's victory over Wigan, has left The Blades just one point above the relegation zone.

I think Warnock would make the IDEAL director of football for us should we chose to employ one. His experience is priceless, he knows how to turn a club around, he's been VERY successful with promotions but the main factors would be he knows McCabe, how to deal with him and what the clubs constraints are. For me its a no brainer. Too many people putting his personality traits before his ability, which speaks for itself. Should be the other way around. Get him in a director with McAll as manager.

Warnock saying what you'd expect him to say. It wasn't a big issue at the time and hardly discussed on this forum. Now certain people would have you believe it's the main reason we lost to Wigan and the main reason they "hate" Warnock.

You think Warnock would work well with a young manager and not step on his toes, or undermine him?

You have a very different opinion of him than me.
 
Might be on the cards if you take some Cadburys fingers round, or so Collymore reckons in his book.
