1 minute silence tonight?

Do you think the club would be daft enough to try and hold a minute's silence before the match tonight?

The only way they could achieve this would be to announce it as a minute's applause.

The premier league and FA have already ruled it out, so it's up to the clubs. I doubt any club would be mad enough to do it.

What?

The old cunt tried to kill football with the "Football Spectators Act 1989" (her ridiculous identity card bollocks to most of us), only supported by Luton and their repulsive chairman. This was only stopped in its tracks by Hillsborough.
She had no time for the game (indeed why should she?) and I don't see why football should show any "respect" in return.

I suspect rather few people in Sheffield share that opinion. Personally. my vote would go to Attlee.

Whether you love her or hate her, you can't deny that she was a controversial divisive figure. Thats the nature of being a politician and certainly the nature of politicians of Thatcher's type. People like that cannot really expect a display of communal grief when they go (and I expect few of them do).

In any event, my view is that minute's silences at football grounds should be resreved for people who gave conspicuous service to the club in question or - at a stretch - football in general. Politicians of any party should never ever get them.
 
If a minutes silence is not held tonight (and I appreciate the difficulties in doing so) then the death of any former PM in the future also should not be marked with one.

You wouldn`t see the Americans treating a former President with such disrespect, irrespective of his/her time in office.

Whether you agree with the PM's (nay any PM's) policies, the office should be repected. respect the Office, not the individual.

The difference with the USA is that the President is the Head of State there, so a President dying there is the equivalent of the King or Queen dying here.

Do you think any head of state/government should be treated with respect when they die? Hitler? Stalin? Pinochet?, Mao? Pol Pot?

Obviously, Thatcher was not a murderous genocidal dictator, but if you admit that we can make political judgments in not respecting Hitler and Stalin when they die, it seems you are admitting that sometimes one should not respect the office, but consider the person who filled it.
 
That reminds me. After the Carlisle match I saw that in the toilets at the foot of the Kop somebody has written 'CHAD IS INOCENT'.

Whether you like her or hate her at least she followed her principles good or bad she had the guts to carry them through - which cannot be said about the current bunch of Cameron, Clegg or Milliband - not much to chose between the lot of them - they all look them same and talk the same b*****ks - and they wonder why no one can be bothered to vote!
Over the past couple of days most of the anti Thatcher rhetorick is being spouted by kids who either were not about at the time or would have been still at primary school - probably heard about her in the playground!
For what it's worth I'm with Swiss on this one - whilst everything she did was not right, she at least did something! Which to half the voting public would be unpopular but at least she had the balls to do it!

:) and I never denied that I was willing to applaud his achievements on the field that season. Turned out that I thought better of it but that's not the point.

Seems that many on here have fewer morals than me ;)
 
But, I do not agree with a Minutes Silence - for footballers and football people not politicians!

Certainly the people of Chad didn't deserve to have their country ripped apart with Civil War. I'm a bit surprised some of our supporters feel so strongly about this though.

Personally I'd keep all politics out of football.

You've done it now, I'll be seeking this slogan out when I have my pre-match Jimmy .....................
