Same place different day or a reshuffle.View attachment 173728 Note car, believe it's 'young' Harry's
We had the same line up in quite a few games in 1928 and I suspect that the photo was taken before the FA Cup semi final and replay matches against Huddersfield. Top row L to R: Bert Chandler, Vince Matthews, Jack Alderson, Harry Cawthorne, Len Birks, George Green. Front row: Bert Partridge, Jimmy Blair, Harry Johnson, Billy Gillespie, Fred Tunstall, Tommy Sampy. Only Green, Johnson, Gillespie and Tunstall played in the Cup final three years earlier. The defenders we had in the 1925 FA Cup final couldnt cope with the new offside rules from the 1925-26 season

Three in a Facebook group were convinced that Steve Faulkner is David Bradford. Made me laugh!
Must be nearly a foot, to us old u'ns, 30 cm to normal folk or 300mm to building operatives, difference in height.
David Bradford was a good player but never seemed to kick on and get hold of games as his ability indicated he could.
I cannot remember seeing Faulkner play but family members were not all that enamoured with him, memory says.

David Bradford 1974-75 was excellent and that was that.

ok 'David', your memory may be better than mine and I admit games attended were not great, young family.
1974-75 D. Bradford - 22 lge. apps., 4 at sub.,1 lge. goal, teams lge. position 6th, in Div.1, Manager K. Furphy, :(.
I did say he had ability and remember he was playing along side the second best player I ever saw in a Blades shirt, TC.
He was to me the next TC but it never materialised and I do realise it was not all due to himself, lots of other reasons must have come in to play. Managers?

Mid December onwards 27-28 and 28-29 the team was quite settled as you say evolving from the Cup Wining team.
They did manage to beat Huddersfield, the 1928 FA Cup runners up, after the semi games, 0-1 at Leeds Rd in the league.
Scorer, inevitably H Johnson, League tally for 1927-28 was 33 in 36 apps. & FA Cup 10 in 8 apps. and he never won a sausage.
CC Cup he did not play in and Wednesday won it, 1-0 at Owlerton.
Off side, the defenders friend, not only does it restrict the attackers it also restricts the defenders in that they must form a line and at that point are vulnerable in that there is no depth in their defending, so all in all I believe a good law.

I was only a young un during that season, but didn't Bradford play left back ?

Faulkner looked a giant in reserve games but struggled when he played for the first team. Had poor ball control and the opponents knew it. Did play well in the 0-0 draw against Newcastle in the 1977 FA Cup 3rd round, but that was the only time I saw him play well.

Yes, back end of seasons, looking at bible last ten games, where as12 at no, 8.
He wore the number 3 as Ted Hemsley was out injured, but still played in midfield with Currie & Speight.
The back 4 was Badger,Eddy, Colquhoun & Flynn.
Unfortunately Furphy started the following season with the same system and no real left back & we never recovered from the bad start we made!
