Lane rated no1 for experience

Food and service must be exempt from categories then.
I always find the food and service excellent, aslong as I'm not the one fetching the beers and the cheeseburgers outside are particularly mediocre and welcomed after a cold evening game.

A pint? A pint?
Don’t get me started about those cardboard cups again.....never more than two thirds in mine beneath the foam, and that’s after I’ve asked them to top it up twice.
Pints? It's just cans in some parts of the ground, £5.30 for a lovingly poured can of Heineken 😃

In the BLUT it is cans (not pint cans I may add) poured into a paper cup. However, when attending the Lincoln match I was surprised to see actual pints being poured from pumps. They even had Moretti.

This was in John Street stand btw

The difference between staff with even a small amount of experience / a positive work ethic and those who don’t is enormous. Knowing that some queues move much quicker than others, me and my son joined separate queues last week, both with 5 people in front of us. He got to the front before my line’s first customer had left the counter because the server fetched one item at a time, brought it back to the till and then had to queue again at the pass for the next item.

If ever a thread summed up this forum, this is it.

We have just been placed #1 out of 93 for the best matchday experience and it turns into an elongated moan about the bar staff.

Our stadium is ranked better than Tottenhams £1bn stadium, Old Trafford, Anfield, St James Park, for atmosphere, pricing, facilities, location and the view, and yet everyone is moaning about the bar staff.

And now I'm moaning about people moaning.

Bettis must despair.

Haha, I know. Just been reading the thread. Half way through, I had to remind myself what I’d originally clicked.

Not overly surprised we are first. The ground is in a great location, plenty to do, drink, eat nearby. The stadium is pretty much full every game, it’s a traditional old ground that’s been modernised (which most football fans prefer).

The study didn’t just look at catering it covered the cost of attending games, crowd atmosphere, matchday experience, location and other stuff. If you compare the area around the Rust Bucket and the Lane you can see why ours rates much higher. Loads of watering holes, close to the Station, restaurants within easy access. Fans generally don’t like the new stadiums and the lack of infrastructure around them. The pre match atmosphere in the dozens of pubs within easy walking distance of the ground is ace.

On my chart of places I've enjoyed going, the paper or plastic cups and getting a pint in the ground is low on the scoresheet.

I think our ground fits the bill for a traditional old school football atmosphere. The Championship You Tuber Benjamin Bloom raves about Bramall Lane

Same for me. I returned mine to be topped up as the same time a woman was asking the same for her cider.
Result ? My beer topped up with cider, her cider topped up with beer. FFS 😖

It’s a excellent point. I am guilty as charged ( along with many others), and promise to try not to mention cardboard beer cups again 😂

Very easy to get sucked into vortices of negativity on this forum, but your reminder serves us all well to stand back every now and then, and appreciate what we have got. I’ve been going to Bramall Lane for over 50 years now, and I still get a real buzz when I enter the back of the Kop through the concourse, and see the pitch and stadium laid out in front of me. The first few notes from John Denver send a shiver down my spine.
It’s easy to become a bit complacent about the familiar, lose sight of what is extraordinary about it, and niggle about “first world problems”. Imagine the impact of a full and raucous Bramall Lane on those visiting for the first time - be they from home or away.
I’ve lived down South for about 30 years now, but still have my season ticket at the Lane. Reading is my nearest professional football ground. I’ve only ever been there to watch the Blades. The view is superb from every seat in the stadium. Prices are relatively cheap. There are no posts in the way of anybody. The catering is superb, and the range of beers inside the ground puts ours to shame. Yet it’s a soulless bowl ( even with the Blades fans in it), on the outskirts of a scruffy city, with no heart, history, character or real identity.
We’re very lucky to support the club that we do - it’s something very special, despite our minor frustrations.

In the boozer with Man City and Everton fans recently. Most of them agreed Bramall Lane is one of best away trips for them. Combine that with the lane being a short walk from the city centre, it’s always been one for the calendar with away fans.

Got to admit, never been to the bar at either, by the time I've managed to get into and out of the toilet the second half is starting......

With our city centre location it does make me wonder why we don't hold more major events, often see the likes of Middlesbrough and Sunderland holding decent sized concerts and those place aren't really near any train stations.

I do sometimes scratch my head that people get stadium food & drink, which is invariably shite everywhere on the planet, when you’re absolutely spoilt for decent food and drink options within 10 minutes walk of The Lane.

You could comfortably have a good pint and good food at a different place each home match, for a whole season.

Do you want a casual job 2 hours every other week? Doesn't get you an experienced fast bartender.

Let's be reyt, improvements could be made across the board with little to no monetary input. Simply, a days training for anyone working the Saturday.
How much does a 'training day' cost for staff who are likely only going to stick the job a few weeks.
Some people take years to train at even the simplest of tasks, sad but true.

Personally Id rather lick the urinals than have to queue and be robbed for a container of bilge water labelled as beer, sorry - Best bitter.
Same with the food.

But that's not the point is it? The point is that there is a service available and that service should be of a minimum standard. If that standard is what we currently offer then wow. That is poor. I'd be embarrassed if my company put that out.

Some people do take years to train, that's true, but you're not suggesting that pouring liquid into a cup takes longer than 30 minutes to train? I'd never poured a pint in my life before I bought one of these home Blade machines. First go, perfect pint.

I've had the pleasure of corporate dining at Lane. Compass do that. Obviously it's more professional but it genuinely seems that those on the ground aren't given a fuck about.

Furthermore, in the application processs, a simple "have you done prior work or had prior training in this area?" i was never asked that when I applied. It's quite pathetic.

The future is coming...it just won't be at Bramall Lane for a long while 😁

Good post , but never thought of Reading as a city ?

The point is that there is a service available and that service should be of a minimum standard.

It is.

Minimal being the operative word.

How many pubs close each week/month that sell beer for 70/80 hours per week ?

Yet the bars at the lane that serve beer for maybe 1 hour per week average are expected to be some form of excellence ?

I've had the pleasure of corporate dining at Lane

I have also had that pleasure, and that of the boardroom dining, which is several leagues higher.

If anyone has a viable business plan for food and drink on the match day concourses, submit it to the club..

The primary business of the club is football, drinks snacks and betting facilities are just add ons.

I suspect some could say the betting facilities are a little sub par.

The cardboard cups are a good example of how to make life doubly difficult for the serving staff, while at the same time disappointing the customer. Two minutes of thought on the part of the catering company should have identified it as an entirely stupid idea. Those who wish to point a finger at the serving staff might think to look elsewhere.

The Government has announced a ban on a wide range of plastic items that is expected to come into effect from 1 October 2023. It means that from October, businesses across England will not be able to supply certain single use plastic items to the end user.

Plastic is great though, 30 degrees C in September - fantastic this global warming.

But we recycle our plastic.

Agreed - petrochemical derived plastics are a bad idea, particularly for single use items. That’s why so much research has resulted in a wide range of environmentally appropriate alternatives for rigid, transparent food packaging being readily available ( and widely used).
