Sign him

He can basically cover anywhere, including RWB, which we obviously can't expect Jayden Bourbon to ever do

We do need RCB cover but it would make sense to get someone who can cover RWB as well

Decent all round footballer who's probably suffered due to his versatility a bit at boro

He'd be a good one if relegated as well, would reliably stay

I don't remember much of Paddy McNair to be honest, but that is the profile of a signing we need.

One of Bogle or Baldock is persistently injured and we could do with Anel being our cover for Egan so will need someone to cover him and Basham.
I hope it doesn't indicate Baldock's injury is too serious now? He's been getting worse for them in the last couple of seasons and we desperately need him.

If Baldock has a "niggle" we won't see him this side of bonfire night

Since Bourbon signed, him and Baldock have been fit at the same time for barely 6 months. It's got worse as time's gone on and it's remarkable how reliably at least one of them is injured

If we could sell Bourbon now and replace him with someone less biscuitful we should do it. Throw Lowe into the deal as well if that's what it takes - no extra charge

Holgate would be an excellent signing for this reason, so it's a shame his contract seems to rule him out

McNair is a reasonable cheap alternative but he can't play RWB in the same way

I know a couple of Boro fans who really rate him. He’s the type of versatile type we could do with. Provides good competition at centre half, right wing back and centre mid

Think his best position is actually CM. That's where he impressed most a few years back, running with the ball a lot and even scoring a few

Could imagine him really excelling in our old RCB role in the championship, getting forward to good effect. If we go down with him as our minimum option at RCB, we'll be in a decent place

Released by 'Boro, still a big Wilder love in (both directions), I can see this happening. Personally, I would love this, but I'll admit to being biased as a member of the GAWA.

I would be highly surprised if it's not just about all done and dusted re terms.

I am open to being corrected here, but hasn't he missed chunks of this (& last) season with injuries/loss of form!. Hence, his contract not being renewed.
If that is correct, he is a player we should be avoiding at all costs, taking this dire season and the need for our rebuild to not resemble a 'rest-home for crocks' into consideration.

If true I've never been more certain we'll sign a player

I have a soul-destroying feeling that you are gonna be right....... probably sat in a (Sheffield!) hotel tonight prior to meeting Wilder tomorrow!! 😟😞😱
According to this then were going to need a bigger treatment table😂

A bit like Ayling, if he’s not a marquee signing per say, could be a useful, realistic squad addition with experience and versatility for the level. Plus I doubt his wages would be astronomical.

Another where I'm left shaking my head..

Wilder's trick of getting grizzled 'experienced' players and getting a tune out of them worked in 2018, but it's now 2024...

If we've learnt nothing this year, we need to get younger, more dynamic, better athletes into the squad. Letting Egan go and replacing with this guy, or worse, having him Egan and Robinson as a back 3 would be ridiculous.

We need to have a recruitment criteria that involves being palpably better than those we're not renewing and/or a much younger more explosive athlete.

Struggling to see how this guy (and the others were linked with) ticks those boxes.

McNair would get OK, but younger brighter players needed. If we go up with the type of player like Aysling and still have Robbo, Lowe etc we will have to rebuild again in the premiership, just like the last couple of times

I'm starting to think we shouldn't even try to assemble a Premier League team - we should spend whatever funds we have assembling the best Championship side that we can with the idea of being a yo-yo club. The gulf is so big that's the best we can hope for I reckon.

I would do this to be honest. But we went foreign and random this window and it’s back fired.
