what a waste of time. 2 weeks to find out that we we could only afford half an archer.
Strikes me Villa want there cake and to eat it as well.
No club and even a wealthy club would not accept a deal like that.
Pay 15million and a buy back clause around or slightly more than that ! No way.
As someone else has said the risk is all ours with that deal! We move on next please.!!!

Be interesting to see how many of those who think Archer is overpriced, criticised the club for paying the McBurnie fee
Tbf it isn't a like for like situation. I don't think Mcburnie was overpriced. At 20m I think Archer is slightly overpriced with the main issue of being certainly out of our price range this season.

I suppose there might be someone in the Norwegian second division who scored 10 goals last season we could afford

This shows we cannot compete. If we aren’t willing to pay premier league prices we won’t be in the premier league. Time and time again we make it and then throw the opportunity away in not investing properly.
I reckon we can't. I don't even think the amount we get from SKY is enough to fund the obscene wages that players demand these days. Pretty much all the Premier clubs have billionaire owners (or as near as dammit), who supplement what is needed to give the league a good go.

In many ways, I'm happy for us to not go down that route without an owner who could stomach the excess required to even attempt to compete. I mean, looks at the pigs mess?

This is exactly it. Despite the riches of the PL, this doesn't even start to cover the real costs now fees and wages have gone off into the deep end. You need a billionaire, to raise vast sums from your own player sales or have a bit of a punt like Burnley seem to be doing.

My guess on the buyback thing is effectively they want to buy him back for a figure near what they sold him for making it effectively a loan where if he is shite or gets injured we lose £15m

I think the Brewster deal had a decent profit attached making it worthwhile.
Yeah we've had a fantastic return on Brewster

Well, if you have accepted relegation after one match then you aren't very supportive, or a supporter at all, are you?

What you can do is actually support it. Encourage, promote, enthuse and project positivity, even when it's tough. That's supporting.
I'd suggest that supporting means being there through thick and thin. So I'd suggest that this season, when we knew we were up against it before we even start, but still being there week in week out- that's support.

Last week when we came off, most of the Kop giving the players a great reception, that's support. It's not their fault, we get it.

Sticking with a marriage through a shit spell, still backing your mate even though they're a dickhead (eyup Booker4 🤣 only joking son) that's support.

If you desperately only want them to be good, that's when folk get on their backs or stop going when we're shit. That's not support.

I can't fault anyone who feels we'll go down because who can blame them?? But if they're still shouting us on, they'll do for me. Love us when we're good, love us when we're shit, even love us because we're fucking shit 🤣🤣 UTB

Yup

There's the rub ..... we don't have an owner such as this and the fees and wage expectations are off the scale.

However , i would have thought we would have landed Archer as i honestly think we desperately need him .

Its going to be a long , hard and frustrating season unless Mr Heckingbottom can work miracles

Dazza seems to be a little behind with the latest news from trifle

The only good that will come from us fucking about is that Osula will get more minutes to impress. I thought he did pretty well last Saturday, and if that curling effort had snuck in first half he'd be walking on air right now. He may be more inclined to sign an extension too if he's getting minutes on the pitch. I think he earned a starting place tonight whether McBurnie's fit or not.

I'm a big fan of Osula, think he just needs a goal his all round play is pretty decent

Maybe nothing is as it seems!
Nobody knows fuck all about the inner workings of our bids and what's happening at other clubs. There's every chance we told Villa we backed out and they came back to us cos Archer doesn't want to go to the champ. Or we could have agreed terms and he could be on his way up for a medical. Meanwhile everyone on here is getting wound up about one piece of information that's as verifiable as anything I've written.

I'm reserving any real annoyance until the window is shut and the business is officially complete. Pointless wasting energy on it until then.

No idea what to believe, but if we believe the narrative and it was true Akpom was Hecky's #1 choice, and Archer was the back-up option...

..Why did we decide that £10-12m was too much for Akpom, to then go and submit an £8m bid for a player valued at £18-20m?

If the latter is VERY CLEARLY outside of our budget, why not just match the Ajax bid?

Do we actually have a board, or is it just a bunch of hamsters on fucking wheels running around to power the electric Shirecliffe

Exactly no one knows fuck all, yet the same old doom merchants come on here and blame the club at the hint of any bad news.

Maybe we are skint, maybe we have been outbid by championship clubs. But it could also be possible that Villa are asking for way more than he’s worth.

We just don’t know! Might as well wait and see what happens
