£18m is not a lot for a player to potentially score you the goals to keep you in the PL, or score the goals to get you back up in one of the subsequent seasons. I get that finances are tight etc, but not paying the fee to secure Archer feels pretty short sighted. Maybe it is given the Prince wants to sell. If we don't think he's worth that then why bother with him at all, because any striker scoring goals to make a material difference to the club's fortunes in the PL is defo worth £18m.
Have you copied and pasted this from the original Rhian Brewster rumour and just changed the name and fee?

One factor you're missing from this is the thoughts of the player. Would he want to play in the championship again or have a crack at the prem. He doesn't have to sign for Leeds or Boro.
Oh agree 100% but he doesn’t have the power to force any move to us

My point was more about the fans being annoyed we aren’t matching championship clubs, reality is one of them has prem league financial power

I want us to get our business done as soon as practical, and get a strengthened squad in place asap.
But, also, I'm sure I've seen Sky Deadline day coverage of all the late business going on as things drop into place. Almost as if we aren't the only club involved in the business of swapping players 🤔

For strong loan signings, I get it. The best players become surplus at the end of the window when squads are announced and the big-boys have overfilled their numbers.
But if you know you're losing Ndiaye & McAtee, you have to be quicker to get permanent players in place. That's the criticism.

Why couldn't we lodge this bid for Archer as soon as OM's interest became known? Why couldn't we agree a fee with Villa and tell OM they have to match that before we let him out? Why did we have to rush that deal through like we did?

Who - you could argue - could be in the Prem next year with a more solid infrastructure enabling them to survive , whereas we arent

We didn't know we were losing Ndiaye though. He had 'signed' then changed his mind.
I agree all the business is happening too late, but the worst of it (Illy) is going to be a near impossible one to solve. He gave us something that we won't replicate. It will be by more conventional players, who are in high demand.

What is our current budget? If it's to be believed, was it originally £20m total spend? Then PH has said he is getting the sale proceeds.
If that's correct, how much have we got left?

So what does Brewster have to do with Archer?

Archer isn't injury prone and is a better player than Brewster ever was.
Statistics and the eye-test tell us this.
Not sure what you meant with your first sentence.

I have accepted that we are going down since Ndiaye was sold. The money we got from Ndiaye will not be enough for us to find a player as good as him.

Archer looked good against us but £18M is a lot for a striker who hasnt scored in the PL.

I have accepted relegation but I am going to Forest tonight (also Spurs on 16th Sept) to support the team

I was going to call it s24SeriousUsers.com or Onlyflans where we can bore each other with amateur baking.
If on track is rifle and rocket swinging there dicks about see who’s got the smallest then lets stick with where it’s currently at.

El Accounto has hinted on more than one occasion that the budget was actually less than 20 mill. The prince never mentioned an amout at any stage either.

The 20 mill was something I think only the Star mentioned.

It's been widely reported that we got around 20m for Ndiaye. That's money we weren't expecting and should be available to spend on Archer.

Now I know we don't just want to pay any price but in todays market, a young goalscoring, quick, English centre forward is going to cost over 15m, especially from a club who doesn't have to sell.

For example if Jebbo had had the same season as Archer did last year and still had 4 years left on his contract how much would we want for him ?

If we want to have a chance of staying up spend all the Ndiaye money on this lad and stop pissing around. It may not work out but who else is available and would they be any more likely to succeed?

Without going too far into what we can and can’t spend, cos we’ll be here a while otherwise, I’d say had we not been promoted this time around we’d have had a pretty big rebuilding job on our hands and would’ve been one poor season away from facing the threat of League One. A lot of that was partly down to overstretching ourselves on unproven talents while in the PL last time. For that reason, while we need to strengthen, I’m not against effectively breaking the bank on another unproven player.

We have 2/3 examples of spending this amount of money and it not working out, we can't afford to do that as we have seen. People might not like it, but maybe the club has a hard limit they won't breach for transfers now. 18m is a lot of money, if he goes 6/7/8 games without scoring, things could snowball.

I hope that Mr Heckingbottom and his players have not accepted we are going down . Blimey .

He also said at one stage it was the same as last time we came up but more focused on wages....

Flip flop

I'm already dreading the car crash that will be Lowe/Larouci v Brennan. That's where the game will be lost

I hope he (PH) has considered sticking Trusty in at LCB and Robbo in as LWB. We will lose a bit going forward, but he is less likely to let some
one run by him unchallenged.

They won’t but we keep lowballing which is worrying
I get the impression that's part of our transfer negotiations all the time, makes sense as to why our dealings often take aggggeeeessssss!

How much? £15m plus addons....... How about £8m no addons?

If we get outbid by two championship clubs there are going to be riots

There is a difference between being outbid because we can’t afford to pay more and being outbid because we don’t want to pay more.

I’d like to think we’ve got a number of targets, so we don’t need to do anything silly like pay over the odds for players.

They went all out for Ndiaye in the end including seemingly giving him an open ended window to sign.

With hindsight they should have given him a deadline to respond before moving on but that would have probably driven the price down.

So many variables, I’m glad it’s not me doing this anyway. The only thing I know for certain is it’s easier and quicker to buy stuff the more money you have.
