In fact they’ve done a lot of work around the ground, paint wise, signage etc. looks tidy. The inside of the JSS and concourse/gangways etc have all been painted.

This shows that throughout the years, red white and yellow away shirts have been our best spells as a football club.

Class!
Apart from "Sir James" ought to be more central.:(
Nice to see Alf Ringstead up there also, could head a ball and shoot well, and an eye for goal.

They've really spruced the place up lately. It's great to see.

I just love that Arnold Laver is plastered all over the ground. United and Laver will always go hand in hand for me.
The Lavers themselves have always been big supporters of SUFC, financial and otherwise, even when their name was just on a couple of hoardings.

My first memries were us in Laver kit so I'm a bit biased but it's hard to deny what they've done for our club over the decades.

Not many keepers represented on there though!

Same here Laver is etched into my earliest memories of United. They've been great partners to United.

You're right about the lack of goalkeepers though. I would put Alan Kelly up there, and some of the older fans would probably have Tom McAllister.
Or we could have the legendary William Fatty Foulke.

I’m glad Stan gets on there. The captain of the double promotion at the point where I started being able to attend games under my own steam. Who Bassett let lead us out for that first game v Liverpool as a reward for his years of toil (before dumping him because we had to). But what trophy is he holding? I thought we had the cooler Laver sponsor on that shirt as we climbed the league. Apologies for the inane input.

Big shout for the Deane and Agana fist pump picture too. Love that.

Who's the one between Morgs and Woody (because of the angle the picture was taken you can just see part of the mysterious player).

Ideally, I would have liked to see a few more from our earlier times such as Nudger Needham, Fred Tunstall (who scored the winner when we last won the cup), Jimmy Dunne, Harry Johnson (jnr), and Doc Pace.

No matter, it still looks really good.

Quite a flattering picture. In most images I've seen of him, he's about five stone heavier.

Liked a beer and a bet did our William.

Was a landlord of a Beerhouse in Sheffield after he retired and died fairly young (early forties I think) through cirrhosis of the liver (buried in Burngreave cemetery). He was also a regular punter up at the sky edge betting ring run by the early Sheffield gangsters (pre the Park Brigade and Mooney Gangs).

Our William was also partly responsible for ball boys being introduced into the game as it was decided that he didn't retrieve the ball quick enough when it went behind his net so the club's would pay for a couple of young lads to do the running / retrieving for him. It caught on and ball boys started to become a more regular thing.

I too loved this tribute to some of our legendary footballers and it got me thinking about how many appearances some of these players had made and some of the numbers are just off the scale.

Some also not with us any more but what a legacy to leave us with.

The game has changed so much now and money is more important than affinity and loyalty.

If a certain young man had decided to stay with us rather than going to live in the land of Frog Munchers then he too might have been on the wall of legends sometime in the future. I suppose it doesn't count for much when the old bank balance is brimming though. To be fair to the lad i think it was more to do with playing for his boyhood team rather than just money.
