Gone Elsewhere Cole Palmer

It seemed far fetched this when I first read it but I don't see why not.

Those saying he's ahead of McAtee....yes in terms of time but not of how he's thought of. McAtee's been the main man all the way through their academy and been so highly talked up by Pep. Just imagine him keeping things ticking over in their midfield, a bit David Silva-ish. We were great for his development as he'd only played academy football really.

Palmer's had more chances as he's different. He's an attacking midfielder yes, but more of a winger/10 whereas McAtee is a genuine mid. Far harder for them to give an untried young lad a go in centre mid than coming on for 20 minutes on the wing already 5-0 up.

There's been a few accounts that Pep doesn't think Palmer's 'kicked on' as he should (despite today's friendly). If he needs to prove himself and stand on his own 2 feet (well one and a half because he's bloody one footed) he trusts us so why not?

And he'd be great for us- I can't see where he'd fit in though apart from playing just off one up front?

Agree with pretty much all your post. I hope he can do more than play as an orthodox winger though. I can see him playing left attacking midfield in a 3-4-2-1 or left attack in a 3-4-3 when we need to push games.

My main concern is I reckon we will need a strong left sided CDM behind him and we don't seem to be in for anyone of that description (although we could put a right footer here I guess). I could be wrong, but I think all the left footed midfielders we have been linked with are more attacking options.

According to their forum, Pep's put him on the left in the first team but coming through, he's played more regularly on the right. I'd have thought he'd play the 10 role but surely we can't play 2 up front with him behind in the Prem? I'd imagine he'd play off McBurnie (or someone coming in).

would be a great loan signing i think we will get him just need archer now for the other loan spot 😉

Not sure why I feel like I am in the minority on this one but I would prefer mcatee to palmer.

He’s already been here
Wont take long to settle
We wouldn’t need to change to bring him back

Palmer on the other hand has never been out on loan and we don’t have the luxury of letting him settle. He is also more of a winger. I could understand it more if we were getting another winger and going down the west game 343 route.

I am never a fan of being someone’s first loan club. Nearly didn’t work wirh mcatee, we have had Ben Woodburn, carter vickers, two Man Utd strikers, We have always had more success when the player has been out on loan before. Henderson Doyle.

I also think palmer is more of a big head than mcatee

West Ham sniffing around Palmer on loan if Pacqueta goes to Citeh
If he has a couple of bad games for West Ham, they’ll drop him from the team. If he plays poorly for us for a few games, we’ve literally got no one to replace him with - he’s almost guaranteed to start for us. That should be our sell to City on this one - guaranteed minutes.

I just want a midfielder who is left footed and isn’t John Fleck or Ben Osborn.

Oh well - that’s that then.

Cross another off and add the list of players we won’t be able to sign.

We Really struggling to get anyone creative seemingly - hope we have other irons in the fire or we just won’t be able to score

Another way of looking at this is that loaning a player to a team where they have to succeed in a situation of adversity can be a huge character challenge and can really make or break a player’s career. City may view it that way.

i think west hams interest in palmer is bad news for us chances are he will be used as part of the paquetta deal 🙄

Tbh, despite our good relationship with City I reckon we might not be anywhere near first choice as a possible destination for Palmer as City might want him to be at a team with a better chance at staying up.

But I wouldn't be surprised if we tried to get Mcatee back on loan and City let him come back to us for this season.

I think there’s at least half a dozen clubs chasing him, some a loan and some want to buy. Whilst he knows what he’s coming back to at the Lane and that maybe a big draw, I suspect Pep may have other plans for him if sending him back out
